Common misconceptions to consider Coldwell Banker is a big company. Won’t I just get lost in the crowd?

While we are a large real estate company, you’ll never feel that way at Coldwell Banker Tomlinson because of our close network of support teams and REALTORS®. We offer the feel of a much smaller “boutique” company with all of the support and legendary brand identity of an international powerhouse.

Some companies tell me that the brand of the brokerage company doesn’t matter, and that it’s all about the individual brokers brand. Is this true?

While it’s true that your “personal brand” matters greatly and is the fundamental reason that a client will do business with you, only a company whose brand has little to no value would tell you that the brokerage’s brand name doesn’t matter. A strong company identity brings you more opportunities to win business and allows you to build trust and rapport more quickly with prospects and referrals—giving you more income with less effort.

I hear Coldwell Banker Tomlinson is a full-service brokerage. What does that mean?

A full-service brokerage handles every technical aspect of a transaction for a REALTOR®, from uploading and marketing listings to coordinating closings. Our philosophy takes full-service to the next level, supporting you with “white glove” service whatever your needs may be. Our admin team and non-competing managers are fully present to support, coach and mentor you as your business grows. We also provide leads, marketing assets, and technology marketing assets other full-service firms charge extra. Alternative brokerage models include a discount or flat-fee structure. These firms, known as “selfservice” brokerages provide limited service, support, tools, and technology in exchange for lower costs. Many of these discount brokerages lack mentorship, and some have managers who are more focused on selling their own listings or growing their broker roster in order to grow the size of their pie. We prefer to invest in you and the success of your business. We think of you as a partner - when you win, we win. We support and empower you to develop and grow your business, while we take care of the details so you can focus on doing what you do best.

I’ve heard that Coldwell Banker is “corporate” and not locally-owned? Is this true?

Coldwell Banker Tomlinson has been a locally-owned business since founded by C. Verne Tomlinson in 1938. Tomlinson family ownership and management spans several generations, continuing today with Bob Tomlinson and his daughter, Shelley Johnson leading the company.

What about leads? Am I on my own to generate business or do you have any business opportunities available?

We have multiple business opportunities available to you from our national brand as well as our local company. We offer lead generation, floor time, call-capture systems, a relocation department, and a variety of other sources of business. Fundamentally we believe that the best and longest-lasting real estate practices are built on relationships, not transactions. With that in mind, our training and our marketing is heavily focused on helping you leverage your existing personal and business relationships – ultimately allowing you to realize the freedom and satisfaction of a successful referral-based business.

Once I get my license, can’t I just go out and get started?

What you’ve learned in real estate classes is enough to get you licensed in order to conduct real estate activities, but we believe there’s much more to running a successful real estate business. Our structured training programs pick up where your pre-licensing classes leave off and give you “real-world” experience in real estate. In addition, we have an accountability program unique to our company in which you’ll work with your managing broker on a weekly basis to ensure your business is productive and profitable. By the way, we don’t believe that you should starve for your first 6-12 months. Our goal is to get you listings and sales your first 90 days with our family.

Supporting St. Jude St. Jude is an incredible home away from home for kids diagnosed with cancer and other serious illnesses. In our industry-exclusive partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Coldwell Banker REALTORS® can choose to donate a dollar amount for every sale they make, helping these brave kids get back home even faster. Participating in the program also gives affiliated REALTORS® access to a suite of co-branded marketing materials that helps their listings stand out in the marketplace.

Coats 4 Kids Every year the community comes together to collect, clean, and distribute winter coats. Coldwell Banker Tomlinson proudly helps sponsor and facilitate the donation of hundreds of thousands coats to children throughout our region, helping to make sure every child in our community has a warm coat to wear in the winter time.
