200 175 169 158 154 96 The College of Business and Accountancy belle, Uriel Minaves, was crowned as the Miss UNO-R 2023 after successfully retaining her poise and wit during the Coronation Night at the University Gymnasium, Nov. 14. In an exclusive interview, Minaves shared that she would use her competence in journalism to advocate for students to improve their reading comprehension. “I would really use my advocacy in where I advocate for my major consumption because I, myself, am a journalist. And my advocacy focuses more on promoting [enhanced] reading comprehension and reading habits with my fellow UNO-Rians,” Miss UNO-R 2023, Uriel Minaves, said. Minaves bagged the Best Speaker award during the minor awarding segment of the pageant period.
CAS Dean Annabee MagbanuaClaur, PhD, conveyed her appreciation to the student council, faculty, and students’ commitment that made their victory possible. “What truly motivates the college to win this year’s title is the Artians’ unwavering belief in their ability to succeed, and I believe that the support of the faculty, officers, and college as a whole made this happen,” Claur said. Moreover, Claur expressed her gratitude to the OAR Administrators for organizing this University Week, which showcased the competencies and aptitude of the students. “I want to thank the OAR administrators for giving the students the opportunity to not only excel in a particular event but also

Moreover, the College of Engineering (CEN) grabbed the awards for Best in Swimsuit, Best in Evening Gown, Best in Production Number, and People’s Choice award.
Minaves also stated her sentiment regarding her qualities on how she grabbed the crown. “I think that my joyfulness and my authenticity are the traits where I just

to understand that hard work and enjoyment are more valuable than winning in any competition,” Claur added. On the other hand, CAS Governor Laika Mari Watanabe extended her gratitude to everyone responsible for the college’s accomplishment despite having little time for preparation and practice. “We are thankful to our Almighty Father for guiding us during the University Week 2023. Additionally, I would also like to thank the college for its unwavering support and the students for putting in their best effort despite time constraints,” Watanabe said. Consequently, Watanabe highlighted their commitment to hold the title as the University Week 2024 champion by continuously displaying Artians’ brilliance and competitiveness in performances. Moreover, the College of Business and Accountancy clinched the first runner-up with 200 points, followed by the College of Allied Medical Health Sciences with 175 points. GRIFFIN ON TOP. The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) soared in victory as it bagged the overall University Week 2023 championship with a total of 204 cumulative points, during the closing ceremony held at the University Amphitheater, Nov. 18.
“Before becoming Miss UNO-R 2023, to be honest, I don’t have expectations. I am just enjoying myself on the stage, but I guess, the stars really did align for me,” Minaves added.
“I guess you could say that life [is] full of surprises and you will never know what it will have and what it will give you,” Minaves said.
