Toko Has Got Talent!
Singing, dancing, performing: on Friday afternoon Tokomairiro High School students once again demonstrated that Toko’s GOT TALENT!
Courage, inspiration and a whole lot of hard work resulted in a spectacular display of gifts for the appreciative and enthusiastic crowd’s entertainment with an incredible variety of performances and courage shown by all who took the stage. From heartfelt musical solos and soulful a cappella to energetic hip-hop dancing and a powerful Highland drumming act, the show offered something for everyone. Highlights also included a dynamic grunge metal performance and a wonderfully eclectic dance medley by the Senior A Netball team, complete with a surprise cameo from their coaches. The tech team did an outstanding job managing sound and lighting, creating a professional and engaging atmosphere throughout the event. The student hosts kept the energy high with their humour and fun quiz questions, adding even more personality to the afternoon.
Overall, it was a fantastic showcase of talent, creativity, and school spirit. A big congratulations to everyone involved! Congratulations to each and every one of our acts. Prize winners will be announced very soon!

Tokomairiro High School Newsletter...
SCHOOL MISSION: Inspiring Excellence in Education, in Character and in Life.
IIt’s Week 7, and there are three weeks to go until the end of the term. Winter has arrived properly now, and with it, the usualmix of frosty mornings, wet weather and a few winter bugs.
Winter sport is also well underway, with students representing Tokomairiro High School in netball, basketball, and rugby. Today our senior netball team are away at a tournament we wish them all the best for a great day of competition and thank the staff supporting them.
Winter Illness – When to Keep Students Home
We know there’s a lot of illness going around at the moment, and we really appreciate whānau making the call to keep students home when they’re unwell. It helps protect others and gives students the best chance to rest and recover properly. As a general guide: if your child has a fever, is vomiting, has diarrhoea, or a persistent heavy cough they should stay home until they are well again. If it’s just a mild cold and they’re otherwise okay, they can usually come to school. If you’re unsure, feel free to ring the office.
Attendance Matters
Even during winter, every day at school counts. Regular attendance builds learning, confidence, friendships and a strong sense of belonging.
If your child is missing school often for any reason please reach out. We understand life can be complicated, and we’re here to work with you to find solutions.
Toko’s Got Talent
Toko’s Got Talent was held last Friday afternoon and featured 11 brave and talented performers. I wasn’t able to attend, but I’ve heard fantastic feedback from staff and students alike. Well done to all those who took part, and thank you to Mrs Goodwin for organising the event, as well as all the staff who helped support it. It’s always great to see students stepping up and sharing their passions.
Cultural Competition and Matariki Expo – Wednesday 18th June
Next Wednesday is shaping up to be a very special day:
• The Cultural House Competition is a highlight of the year. Each house will perform our haka, the school waiata, and a special Matariki waiata. There is always huge pride and spirit on show, and it’s an event we all look forward to.
• The Matariki Expo, hosted by the Tokomairiro Kāhui Ako, will be held at Te Whare Puāwai o Tokomairirio from 8.15–10am and 3–5pm. It will feature art and writing from learners right across our schools, based on the theme Matariki / New Beginnings. Whānau are warmly invited to come along and enjoy the display.
Mid-Year Reports
Mid-year reports will be emailed out to parents and caregivers before the end of term. These reports provide a snapshot of progress and next steps, and are an important part of our ongoing communication about learning.

With lots of laughs and great teamwork, our crew came away with 5th place out of eight teams. Awesome effort from

Building Connections: The Tokomairiro Community Hub
The Tokomairiro Community Hub is more than just a building - it’s part of the heart of our community. Supported by Milton Community Health Trust, Grant Organisations, and local Service Clubs, we’re proud to offer this vibrant space where District residents can come together, access essential services, and build lasting connections.
A Hub for Social Engagement
The Tokomairiro Community Hub provides a welcoming environment for a wide variety of social activities and support groups. From parenting classes to regular meetings of clubs and groups, the Hub is a place where many can find something that interests them. These activities not only foster a sense of belonging but also help to combat loneliness and isolation, which are critical for mental health and well-being.
Service Provider Appointments
In addition to social activities, the Hub offers opportunities for residents to meet with various service providers. Whether you need to see a Healthcare professional, attend a Counselling session, or get advice from a variety of other providers, the Hub makes it easy to access these essential services in one convenient location.
Despite the immense value the Tokomairiro Community Hub brings to our community, we face ongoing funding challenges. While we receive some donations and grant funding, unfortunately it’s just not enough to cover all our expenses. We are very reliant on donations from the community and the goodwill of Volunteers to keep the Hub services running, and to continue offering these vital services and activities.
If you would like to make a difference in our community - join us in supporting these essential services. Donations are gratefully received and can be made either online – MCHT Support & Advocacy 06 0936 0068678 02 – (Add your name or organisation as a reference,) or by visiting the Milton Community Health Trust office at 7 Eden Street, Milton. The Toko Hub is part of a Not-For-Profit organisation so we can provide you with a tax donation receipt. Or you’re interested in Volunteering? Contact us on (03) 417 4399 and know you’ll be making a positive impact in your community.

Our May meeting took place in Balclutha when 16 members, some friends and 2 husbands travelled to the Riviera Movie Theatre to see "Tina". This was much enjoyed by all as it is based on a true story and set in Christchurch. We then had lunch at Cafe 55 followed by a short meeting. Members were reminded to bring new Pyjamas for the roll call, and the speaker will talk on the recent AGM of NZ WI. Lunch will provided by the committee - Soup and Buns.

The Rebus Club of Milton
Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, the invited guest speaker was unable to come to our last meeting in May. However, we were fortunate to welcome three new members and present them with their membership badges. They in turn talked to us about their backgrounds and let us know something of their lives.
The June meeting is on Tuesday June 17th at the RSA hall at 10 am. Committee please be there at 9.30 am.
The speaker is local Ben Montgomery. He was born in Sweden and emigrated to New Zealand, recently becoming a New Zealand citizen. He will talk about the differences between the two countries.
News from the Trenches...
Another bitterly cold weekend weather wise but was offset with the warm welcome always on tap at the RSA.
We have plenty going on with the games night vs Fire Brigade happening on Friday 27th June where RSA will be retaining the trophy again!!!! So put your name down to be part of the championship team. That should be enough to get a reaction aye Lammy lol Also we will be open normal Friday hours for Matariki Day on 20th June so come along as the Joker Draw is getting close to $2k so well worth getting a ticket to ease those Winter blues on Thursday nights
Speaking of Blues they caused an issue with our picks for our World Famous Sports Comp with the end of the competition in sight. All the leading performers are writing their victory speech already, most will be ending up disappointed. Our Rugby Comp prize giving will be held on Saturday 5th July commencing at 6pm.
I also witnessed the new highly sought after Raffle Sellers in action where there is a new added dynamic addition to Thursday night raffles. You know where to come for cold drinks, warm company and mind blowing intelligence!!!

Toko Rugby Report
In bitterly cold conditions Toko Premiers travelled to Heriot in a match that would go a long way to determining which squad was better placed for Top 4 contention.
In a torrid physical match, the Toko forward pack laid a foundation to come out comfortable winners 36 - 26 and keep their aspirations for a home semi alive. For Toko, Jacob Jenkins called in to replace an injured Keegan Ferguson and had a massive game, playing strongly for a full 80 mins. Another who was strong was the man mountain Jimmy Agnew.
Next week Toko Premiers travel to Kaitangata who now doubt are waiting for retribution and to reclaim the Eddie Scott trophy. This Toko team is built on resilience and won't be wanting to lose their grip on the excellent position in the standings.
In a fortnights time there will be Toko Club Day with all teams from Junior to Premiers all playing at home so keep that date free for a smorgasbord of footy.
