All students did extremely well and represented our school with pride. A special mention to the Tokomairiro Moas (Dom, Will and Riley) who won their section of year 8 boys but also had the fastest time overall across all the sections with a time of 20

Tokomairiro High School Newsletter...

SCHOOL MISSION: Inspiring Excellence in Education, in Character and in Life.

We are now into our final full week of lessons for the year. Most assessments are now complete and the focus has shifted to preparing for Prizegiving, end-of-year activities and finishing the term well. We are also looking forward to Activity Days next week which always bring a great mix of learning, service and fun to wrap up the year. It has been a long and busy year and I want to acknowledge the steady effort students are continuing to show as we head toward the finish line.

Sporting Success

We have had some excellent results in sport over the past week.

Our Kī-o-rahi team played in the final of the Māori sports regional tournament against He Waka Kotuia. After three twenty-minute games they came away as regional champions. This is only the second year that our kura has entered the tournament and the progress the team has made over the past two years has been remarkable. Their commitment and teamwork have been a pleasure to watch.

More than 20 of our Year 7 and 8 students took part in the Quadrathon and all performed well. A particular mention goes to Dominic Dobson, Will Allen and Riley Milligan who won the Year 8 section and recorded the fastest overall time of 20 minutes and 33 seconds. This is an outstanding achievement.

Have-a-Go Week

A number of our Year 9 and 10 students took part in Have-a-Go Week organised by the Otago Secondary Schools Sports Association. Students enjoyed trying Dodgeball and Kī-o-rahi and it was great to see many of them taking the opportunity to try something new.

Reports

End-of-year reports will be sent out by Friday 5 December. These will give an overview of each student’s progress across the year along with any key recommendations for 2026. We encourage whānau to take some time to read through these carefully and discuss them with their young person. If you do not receive a report please contact the school office after checking your spam folder.

Prizegiving

Our end-of-year Prizegiving will be held on Monday 8 December beginning at 7.00 pm. All students are expected to be at school in full uniform by 6.30 pm. This is an important occasion on our school calendar and we look forward to celebrating the achievements of our students with their whānau.

To allow us to prepare the hall students will be released at 12.30 pm on the day. Our final junior assembly will take place at 10.30 am.

The Longest Day!

What an epic Saturday it was for our CACTUS crew! We kicked off the day with a stunning kayak down Lake Waihola, followed by a challenging run along the beautiful Clutha Gold Trail. But we didn’t stop there next up was a bike ride all the way to the Milton Showgrounds. And just when you thought we were done, the ultimate test awaited: pulling a tractor across the field! Huge thanks to Dean McCrostie and Kim Craig for bringing their tractor down and yes, our determined students nailed it! We wrapped up the day with a well-earned BBQ and a special presentation of certificates and a cactus or each student to mark the completion of this incredible journey. A massive shoutout from Project Bruce to all the parents who helped with breakfasts throughout the programme your support means the world.

A heartfelt thank you to Lucy and Emily, our amazing Otago Polytechnic Occupational Therapy students, for their energy and encouragement. To our inspiring guest speakers Moz, Keely Hill, Scott Weatherall, Marty Hurring, Aaron Hawkins, and Arna Smith your time, wisdom, and stories with our students. Your words made a lasting impact. Finally, none of this would be possible without the unwavering dedication of our phenomenal trainer, Kelvin McSkimming thank you for inspiring our rangatahi every step of the way. We are so proud of every single student who gave it their all. You’ve shown grit, teamwork, and heart. This is what CACTUS is all about!

Bible Reading for the Week

Show off your Pets!

Hi everyone don't forget to enter your pets for the Toko A&P Show!

We have a wee obstacle course for the pet lambs and calves and a drinking competition for the lambs. You can bring along any kind of pet for the Any Pet and the fancy dress competition. You can enter on the day and the entries are FREE.

We are situated down by the cattle judging ring. Hope to see you there!

Tokomairiro High School will be moving to a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) system for 2026 Year 7 and 8 students will still have access to a chromebook during the school day but it is recommended that all older students bring their own device to school. Details of appropriate devices are available on the school website and students will need to complete a BYOD agreement which is available on the website or at the office. Our preferred supplier is Noel Leeming who has a selection of devices that meet the criteria. They have already let us know that they will be having some specials available over the coming weeks with Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales.

News from the Trenches...

This week this column needs to start in a rush with one RSA member suffering from premature arrival when he started taking down the Anzac Crosses an hour before the expected time. Thank you for your keenness.

And the winner of the Pick The Score is Grant Sheath who was the closest winner of the AB vs Wales score. There were a few close entries with Jock, Lammy and Josh Day feeling particularly short changed. So clearly 2025 has been a Sheath benefit in terms of picking rugby comps.

The Xmas Ham is selling flat out as we are down to our 3rd Ham flying out the door. So get in quick for these delicious ones. Along with that, we are getting some Xmas trees as a fundraiser so we're just trying to squeeze Woody into the Santa suit. More details to follow.

Last Thursday you were promised Big Daddy and Big Sexy for raffles. Unfortunately Big Sexy failed to fire and let down his many fans. Along with a new game coming along is Grab a Granny which we are looking for a host.

The Darts Comp is now full for entries and the draw will be held on 11 December so if you have entered let Woody know your nickname and walk on music.

So as a final thought so if nothing goes right, then turn left
