Year 6 Orientation Day

On Thursday 13th November we held our orientation day for our incoming students for 2026. It was a great morning playing games together and then visiting some of our classes. Students went to Wood tech, Māori, Art and Homeroom and did some different activities. We had some year 7 students who were fantastic leaders for the groups and it was great to see everyone so excited and happy as they moved around the school. We can't wait to officially welcome them all at the beginning

Moore Park Pump Track

Work on the track is underway! Matt and Ivan from Graded Earth are flat out, starting to form and compact the track, with drainage going in earlier in the week. These guys are awesome, so give them a toot and a wave if you are passing by.

This work has been facilitated by Project Bruce and is being funded through our Community Led Development Partnership with the Department of Internal Affairs, with a generous contribution also from Sport Otago. Council have been super supportive and have worked hard with us in the background to make the track a reality. Also big thanks to the super positive neighbours and everyone who took part in the engagement process.

The idea comes from our local young people, who wanted to see more awesome outdoor recreational facilities. Great stuff! Keep an eye out for more updates!

2026 Enrolments

Enrolments are now being accepted for 2026. You are welcome to complete an enrolment form online, or drop into the school office with a copy. Please remember, we need to take a copy your child’s birth certificate or passport to verify their identity.

Enrolment Interviews: If you would like to book an enrolment interview, please email erica@tokohigh.school.nz or phone the office on 03 417 8620 to make a time. We look forward to seeing you.

SCHOOL BUS SAFETY

Students entering and exiting the bus are vulnerable to passing vehicles, and drivers must take great care when they encounter school buses.

• Reduce speed to 20km/h when passing a school bus and keep an eye out for children who may walk out onto the road.

• If you are dropping children off or collecting them from a bus stop, stand well back from the edge of the road and out of the way of the bus.

• Wait on the same side of the road to collect your child in a rural area so they don’t have to cross.

Tokomairiro High School Newsletter...

SCHOOL MISSION: Inspiring Excellence in Education, in Character and in Life.

It has been a busy and productive week at school. Senior students continue to work well through their exams, and we are pleased with the focus and effort they are showing. Meanwhile, the rest of the school is working hard across classes and continuing to finish the term strongly.

Orientation Morning

We had a wonderful Orientation Morning this week, it was a pleasure to meet the students who will be joining us next year. Our new students engaged confidently with the activities and with one another, which was pleasing to see.

A huge thank you to all the staff who were involved. In particular, I want to acknowledge Mrs Erica Milligan, who organised the day and has worked incredibly hard behind the scenes to ensure a smooth and positive transition from primary school. Her commitment to our incoming students and their whānau is outstanding.

Community Day – Paying It Forward

As part of our upcoming Activity Day schedule, preparations are underway for Community Day. This is a special day where our students spend time out in the wider Milton community, paying it forward in recognition of the support we receive throughout the year.

Many activities have already been organised and we are looking forward to seeing students contributing in practical and meaningful ways. If you know of a job, project, or opportunity where our students could make a positive difference, please get in touch with the school. We would love to hear from you and continue strengthening our community connections.

Turf Project Update

With the old turf now removed, the progress toward our new turf is starting to feel much more realistic. This will be a new and vastly improved facility for our students and community, and we are excited about the opportunities it will provide once complete.

We still have a significant amount of fundraising to complete before the project can go ahead. Over the coming weeks, we will be inviting people to “purchase” a one-metre square of turf for $150 as part of our fundraising campaign. Every contribution brings us closer to seeing this much-needed facility brought to life.

Prizegiving

A reminder that our end-of-year Prizegiving will be held on Monday 8th December, starting at 7.00pm. All students are expected to be at school by 6.30pm, in full school uniform. We look forward to celebrating the achievements of our students and welcoming whānau to this important event in our school calendar.

BYOD in 2026

This year we introduced Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) across the school, and we will continue with this in 2026. Students are expected to bring a suitable device for learning.

Noel Leeming has a list of recommended models available. Please note that tablets are not suitable for classroom use at this level. With Black Friday sales, this could be a great opportunity to purchase a suitable device at a discounted price.

SPEC Power Saving Tips

The SPEC class has been learning about electricity and how to save it. We made posters about all the things you can turn off at the wall to save electricity at Tokomairiro High School. We wrote things like TV, fans, heaters, computers and listed other things.

Once we made the posters we laminated them and then we divided into two groups. We walked around the school to go to classes and showed them our document about how to save power. We asked them if they would like to display the poster.

Thank you to our kura for displaying our hard mahi.

News from the Trenches...

This is the final week for our Pick The Score jackpot with the closest to the score taking home a very sizeable sum. One unlucky member just missed out by two points last week vs England. So get your picks in vs AB vs Wales. Can the All Blacks bounce back?!

Also filling up quick is our Darts Comp with not many spaces left in this exclusive Extravaganza. Some entrants have already given Woody their nicknames and walk on music which is guaranteed to cause some mayhem. We may need to increase security for these nights. The draw for the first round will be held on Thursday 11 December. It's looking likely around the same time as the Joker Draw being reached the maximum level. My Pigeon Lapo Alsi informs me there are numerous prizes still to be won when certain cards are turned over.

Our fantastic Xmas Hams are still flying out the door so if you want to be very popular over the Christmas table, you better get your tickets in.

This coming Thursday night raffles there will be a special one night where Big Daddy will be joined by Big Sexy in a combination which has been greatly sought after. This promises to be a high octane night of chaos and carnage. Don't miss it!
