SPORTS INFORMATION

Fuquay-Varina Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources

Sports Division promotes sportsmanship, fair play and fun through a variety of youth sports program offerings. Children will have the opportunity to develop new skills in a safe and positive environment. All participants will need to complete a registration waiver and provide a copy of their birth certificate. Program participants may be responsible for providing additional equipment depending upon the sport.

Register online by visiting www.fvparks.org and selecting the “Register Now” icon in the middle of the page. If new to FVPRCRD, you will need to create an account.

Register in person by visiting the Fuquay-Varina Community Center located at 820 S. Main Street, Fuquay-Varina. Hours of operation are Monday – Friday 8:00am to 9:00pm, Saturday 8:00am to 5:00pm.

VOLUNTEER COACHES

All coaches (head and assistants) must be approved by the Fuquay-Varina Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department (FVPRCRD). Coaches will be subject to background checks. All approved coaches will receive a Town of Fuquay-Varina coaches’ shirt and wristband. To register as a coach, please visit www. fvparks.org and complete the coaches’ application by hovering over the sports tab and selecting coaches application. When completing the background check portion, you will need the organization (Town of FuquayVarina) and the good deed code (xd4cwoa).

INCLEMENT WEATHER PROCEDURE

In the event of inclement weather, cancellations and closing will be posted to the Parks and Recreation & Cultural Resources webpage under the “Field Status” icon near the middle of the page. Visit www.fvparks. org. A recorded message with weather information is also available by dialing 919-552-2698. Updates are made weekdays by 4:00pm and on weekends by 7:30am. Any decisions made after these times will be made at the field by officials and/or Athletic Staff.

FINANCIAL HARDSHIP ASSISTANCE

Financial hardship discounts are available for residents and non-residents. In order to be approved for assistance, participants must qualify for free or reduced lunch through a public school system or receive Medicaid. All financial hardship requests must be made when registering in-person at the Fuquay-Varina Community Center. You must provide a copy of the free/reduced lunch form or a current Medicaid card for approval. Funds for non-resident assistance is provided through Non-Resident Scholarship donations and is based on the availability of funds. Fees after discount $10/residents; $15/non-residents

ATHLETICS REFUND POLICY

Full refunds will be awarded to participants who have made a written request to the Athletic Program Administrator prior to the formation of teams in the respective league. All written requests turned in following the formation of teams but before the start of scheduled games will receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be issued after the start of scheduled games. Late fees and convenience fees are non-refundable. There is a $5 processing fee for all refunds unless the program is canceled by the Town.

SKILLS & DRILLS BASKETBALL

Skills & Drills Basketball Ages 4-5

Program is designed to be an introduction to basketball. Players will participate in an 8-week program with pre-planned 45-minute instructor/coach led practices. At the end of the season teams will play a fun game scrimmage to cap the season! All Skills & Drills activities will be held on Saturday mornings starting November 16; Parent’s information is posted online and will be sent out with team assignments no later than November 1.

Ages 8-16

This 6-week program is designed to teach the sport of cross country. Including all, but not limited to stretching, proper conditioning, necessary nutrition, and correct running practices. The program is designed to teach all these aspects through instruction, running, and entertaining games. Participants will have 2 activities per week for the duration of the program.

Team rosters & practice schedules will be emailed to parents by November 1st.

Ages 6-14

Program is an intro to hip hop/game day team dance. Participants practice 1-2 times per week and perform intermittently throughout the season (determined by coach) at basketball games during half time. Typically, team performs 4-5 times per season depending upon the number of dances the team can learn.

ADULT SPORTS LEAGUES

Adult Flag Football

(Ages 18+; must turn 18 by first date) League is open to individuals of all playing levels. Team and individual registration is available. All individual registrants will be wait-listed and assigned to teams that need players. Teams play a minimum 8 game regular season followed by and end of season single elimination tournament. Games are scheduled to be played on Saturdays. Teams must have a minimum of 12 players and can carry a maximum of 25 players. Teams that wish to participate in the league must have a team registered during the regular registration period. Teams that do not meet minimum roster requirements prior to the captains meeting will be required to take free agents or may be dropped from the league if no free agents are available. Teams may continue adding additional players until Friday, December 6 at Noon, all rosters will be final at this time.

Pickleball is a combination of tennis, badminton, and ping pong. It may be a silly name, but it’s a serious sport! It’s fast paced and easy to learn, great exercise and lots of fun! It is America’s fastest growing sport. Please wear tennis shoes.

Family Open Gym

Participants may bring their own toys. No toys with wheels allowed. Food is prohibited in the gymnasium. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times. Wear tennis shoes while in the gym. Must sign waiver.

CONSCIOUS WARRIOR KARATE

Conscious Warrior, a form of Karate, is the best way to build greater focus, increase self-esteem, socialization skills and so much more! NINJITSU

Ages 10+

Class Number 17493

Ninjutsu, a martial art skill-based program, will focus on not only improving physical skills, but also mental training! This hand-to-hand combat course will teach participants how to handle oriental weaponry, tactical training and improve participants physical abilities. Weapons training will cover over 15 different weapons, where Professor Quinones (Hanshi), who is a martial artist with 28 years of experience, will guide your Ninjutsu experience.

There is a ranking test at the end of every three sessions. Martial arts gear and examination fee not included.

Recreation Refund Policy

A participant wishing to withdraw from a program, class or adult sport, that has not been canceled by the Town, must request to be withdrawn, in writing, at least seven (7) calendar days before the scheduled start of a class or program. Refund requests received less than seven (7) calendar days prior to the start date of a program/class/first game may not be granted. There is a $5 processing fee for all refunds unless the program is canceled by the Town. Late fees and convenience fees are non-refundable. There is a $25 fee for any returned checks.

SENIOR COMMUNITY SERVICE EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM

Developed by the National Council on Aging (NCOA), the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is Seeking persons 55+ living in Wake County for part-time “Training Program” to help folks re-enter the Workforce. SCSEP participants will train an average of 15 hours a week. While training, participants are PAID a bi-weekly stipend for participating in the SCSEP program. Participants are placed in a wide variety of community service training assignments at nonprofit and public facilities, such as senior centers, day care centers, schools, and hospitals. The individual will meet the following requirements: 55+, unemployed, and the financial guidelines to become a Participant in the NCOA - SCSEP TITLE V Program. ACRYLIC PAINTING ON CANVAS

Students will learn some basic drawing skills, perspective, color theory and the techniques of using tube acrylic paints on canvas. This course is for all levels of artist from beginner to pro. Rentals may not be made beyond current programming season. Rentals may not be made on holidays. Facility rental fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted. Indoor facilities are smoke-free. Food and/or beverages allowed only in approved areas. Business transactions are not permitted on Town-owned or Town-leased property unless event is sponsored by the Town of Fuquay-Varina. Rates are subject to change.
