Financial hardship discounts are available for residents and non-residents (when funds are available). Registration may be accepted after the initial registration period on a limited basis with the addition of a late fee. Late fee is $10/residents and $15/non-residents.

Fuquay-Varina Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Sports Division promotes sportsmanship, fair play and fun through a variety of youth sports program offerings. Children will have the opportunity to develop new skills in a safe and positive environment. All participants will need to complete a registration waiver and provide a copy of their birth certificate. Program participants may be responsible for providing additional equipment depending upon the sport.

Register online by visiting www.fvparks.org and selecting the “Register Now” icon in the middle of the page. If new to FVPRCRD, you will need to create an account.

Register in person by visiting the Fuquay-Varina Community Center located at 820 S. Main Street, Fuquay-Varina. Hours of operation are Monday – Friday 8:00am to 9:00pm, Saturday 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Pickleball Open Gym

Ages 18+

Pickleball is a combination of tennis, badminton, and ping pong. It may be a silly name, but it’s a serious sport! It’s fast paced and easy to learn, great exercise and lots of fun! It is America’s fastest growing sport. Please wear tennis shoes.

Family Open Gym

Participants may bring their own toys. No toys with wheels allowed. Food is prohibited in the gymnasium. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times. Wear tennis shoes while in the gym. Must sign waiver.

Join Coach Jessica and her team of volunteers who are partnering with Abilities Tennis of NC to provide free tennis instruction for athletes with intellectual disabilities ages 8 and up. Participants will learn the fundamentals, play games and have fun!

Parents and/or caregivers are asked to stay during the clinic. No experience necessary. Please bring your racquet if you have one, if not, one will be provided. Bring a water bottle and dress ready to play tennis!

In this 45-minute session, students will participate in quick-paced drills and enjoyable learning activities! Class will focus on hand-eye coordination, agility enhancement, character development and court manners. Students will be put into groups based on their skill level and given a wrist band to reflect their ability so coaches can give proper instruction to meet every athlete’s needs! All that’s required is a positive attitude, tennis shoes and a desire to learn, and they will be on their way to becoming a tennis star!

This is a 6-week course of tennis. The dates of February 17, 19, and 21, April 7, 9 and 12 and May 26, 28 and 31 will be reserved for weather related makeup classes.

BIG NC PICKLEBALL (AGES 8-12)

Pickleball serves as an excellent introductory to sports for children! By incorporating aspects of tennis, ping pong and badminton, kids often experience immediate satisfaction when playing pickleball- plus the shorter paddles, a smaller court and a slower ball are ideal when learning a new sport! Students are guaranteed to get more ball contact, longer rallies and feel the fulfillment of quickly mastering the popular sport of Pickleball.

This is a 6-week course of Pickleball. The dates of February 18, 20 and 22, April 8, 10 and 12 and May 27, 29 and 31 will be reserved for weather related makeup classes

CONSCIOUS WARRIOR KARATE

Conscious Warrior, a form of Karate, is the best way to build greater focus, increase selfesteem, socialization skills and so much more! This class will focus on participants learning how to defend themselves using drills and skills. This program can teach beginners to advanced students all they need to know to defend!

Students are eligible to be invited to test after 16 classes. Beginner students have the chance to earn their white belt after 6 classes.

DYNAMIC MARTIAL ARTS

Dynamic Martial Arts is a great way for kids to exercise and build self-confidence. This program meets every Saturday where participants will blend Tae Kwon Do and Jui Jitsu together to strengthen their body and mind. Students will earn their belts at the end of the semester through testing and are given the option to participate in a short Bible Study during each class.

Uniforms will be provided by the instructor.

NINJITSU

Ages 10+

Ninjutsu, a martial art skill-based program, will focus on not only improving physical skills, but also mental training! This hand-to-hand combat course will teach participants how to handle oriental weaponry, tactical training and improve participants physical abilities. Weapons training will cover over 15 different weapons, where Professor Quinones (Hanshi), who is a martial artist with 28 years of experience, will guide your Ninjutsu experience.

There is a ranking test at the end of every three sessions. Martial arts gear and examination fee not included.

Recreation Refund Policy

A participant wishing to withdraw from a program, class or adult sport, that has not been canceled by the Town, must request to be withdrawn, in writing, at least seven (7) calendar days before the scheduled start of a class or program. Refund requests received less than seven (7) calendar days prior to the start date of a program/class/first game may not be granted. There is a $5 processing fee for all refunds unless the program is canceled by the Town. Late fees and convenience fees are non-refundable. There is a $25 fee for any returned checks.

The Greensboro Science Center - Greensboro, NC

The Greensboro Science Center is home to an aquarium, museum and zoo - all in one attraction! Come eye-to-eye with animals from all around the world. Hands-on interactions abound in the farmyard, where you can pet goats and sheep, and watch NC crops, such as cotton, grow from seed to harvest. Inside the museum, walk among dinosaurs in Prehistoric Passages, experience extreme weather, have fun in SciPlay Bay and sit back to watch an awe-inspiring show in our OmniSphere Theater. On site dining is available at the Meerkat Café.

Carolina Tiger Rescue – Pittsboro, NC

Carolina Tiger Rescue is a nonprofit wildlife sanctuary whose mission is saving and protecting wild cats in captivity and in the wild. Carolina Tiger Rescue is home to twelve species of animals, including tigers, lions, cougars, and kinkajous. Many of our animals have been rescued from dire situations where they were kept as pets, props in roadside zoos, or as residents of failing sanctuaries. Now, the animals live in large, naturalistic habitat enclosures, and are given excellent care by keepers and volunteers. We will not be stopping for lunch. There is a good amount of walking on this trip. This is an outside tour and will proceed as planned, rain or shine. Dress accordingly.

Reed Gold Mine State Historic Site – Midland, NC

Reed Gold Mine is the site of the first documented gold find in the United States. During its peak years, the estimated value of gold recovered reached over one million dollars a year. Planned activities for this trip include a stamp mill demonstration, a local geology talk, panning for gold, and an underground mine exploration. We will be stopping for a late lunch after the tour is complete.

Facility Rentals

Rentals may not be made beyond current programming season. Rentals may not be made on holidays. Facility rental fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted. Indoor facilities are smoke-free. Food and/or beverages allowed only in approved areas. Business transactions are not permitted on Town-owned or Town-leased property unless event is sponsored by the Town of Fuquay-Varina. Rates are subject to change. SHELTER RENTALS

*Shelter rental availability subject to change Rentals are made in blocks of four or eight hours. Propane grills permitted. No charcoal grills allowed. No alcohol allowed.
