Home‐Start Nottingham seeks to appoint a Chief Executive Officer to lead the organisation.

Home‐Start is a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the welfare of families with at least one child under eight years of age. Volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families under stress in their own homes, helping to prevent family crisis and breakdown. Paid coordinators manage and supervise the support given by volunteers and work directly with families themselves.

Chief Executive Officer

Salary: Up to £45,000 FTE pro rata, dependant on experience

The purpose of the Chief Executive role is to ensure that Home‐Start Nottingham has in place effective leadership required to meet its charitable objectives. The Chief Executive will work closely with the Board of Trustees and the senior management team to provide a robust Business Plan and Impact plan, together with the necessary resources to ensure the sustainability of the organisation.

The Chief Executive will lead on the development and implementation of income generation and service development strategies, as well as being responsible for the day to day running of the Charity ensuring all legal obligations are met.

The Chief Executive will be required to make his/her mark quickly, identifying and generating new sources of income; including commercial/unrestricted income.

This is a challenging role but there is considerable scope for the post holder to make an impact on the organisation and increase profile in the region.

Responsive Repairs Team Leader

Salary: £40,476 – £44,711

We are looking for someone to lead and manage the delivery of our in‐house repairs and maintenance service to the council’s tenanted houses. You will have direct responsibility for managing the Responsive Repairs Team Chargehands who take responsibility for the day‐to‐day supervision of the craft operatives in the team. The team is customer focused, requiring you to be proactive and able to find solutions to everyday problems as they arise. You must have excellent customer service skills to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction with the operatives’ work being completed ‘right first time’.

You must have a working knowledge and understanding of the relevant Health and Safety Legislation and safe working practices as well as be able to work within the policies and procedures of the team. The successful candidate must also have good verbal and written communication skills, excellent personal organisational skills to organise the work of the repairs team staff effectively.

Ideally, we are looking for someone who is a qualified tradesperson with previous supervisory and management experience; working experience of using a repairs software management system would also be advantageous.

Shared Lives supporting adults to live their lives of opportunity!

For over 20 years, Bella Singh has worked as a Shared Lives carer, providing a stable and secure home and family life for adults with additional and complex needs.

In January 2004, Bella was introduced to Shared Lives (formally known as Adult Placement), and has now supported 10 adults to gain further independence and skills.

Bella stated ‘Chris moved in with me in February 2004, and has lived as part of our family ever since. My role allows me to work with people to achieve their goals and dreams and become more independent, but always in the knowledge that I am there to lend a hand’.

Chris says ‘I love living with Bella. We do lots together, we’ve been on holidays all over the world, and I get to do the things I want and that are important to me’.

Shared Lives is still a relatively unknown model of care that holds similarities to fostering, where specially trained Carers open up their home and support adults with additional/complex needs to lead as independent life as possible, whilst staying connected to the local community. Currently, there are approximately 9,000 people being supported up and down the UK in this way.

Shared Lives offers an alternative home-based support model to residential care for people with a learning disability, autism, mental ill health, through to older people and hospital discharges. It also provides an opportunity for young people leaving care to stay with their foster carers post 18.

About the role….

Our busy Front Door of Adult Social Care consists of 3 teams; Adult Social Care Direct (ASCD) where all referrals are received, an Occupational Therapy Enablement service and the Single Point of Access (SPA) team where the current vacancies are. The SPA team is a fast‐paced assessment team consisting of Social Workers, Assessing Officers and Social Work Auxiliaries. We receive referrals from ASCD and complete Care Act assessments and reviews, implement support plans and review services. If, following review, it is clear that long term case management is re‐quired we would transfer these cases to our Locality teams at this point.

You will work closely with the client, their family and those involved in their care to assess needs under the Care Act 2014 and, where appropriate, undertaking mental Capacity assessments and Best Interests decisions. You will also complete duty regularly which involves triaging referrals, signposting when necessary and prioritising urgent referrals as they arise.

Essential Criteria:

You must have knowledge of the current legislation including The Care Act 2014, The Mental Health Act (amended 2007) and its interface with The Mental Capacity Act 2005, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. You will have the ability and confidence to interpret this legislation and apply it to practice while adhering to the Local Authority's statutory responsibilities. You will be joining Gateshead Council at an exciting time when we are preparing for the implementation Liberty Protection Safeguards. You will receive all the required training to support you in your role once the anticipated Liberty Protection Safeguards becomes legislation.

You will have a Social Work qualification (MA or BA in Social Work, Dip SW CQSW or CSS or equivalent) and be registered with the SWE. You will have experience of working with people (and their carers) with mental health, physical health needs and Learning Disabilities, in assessment work and arranging packages of care and an understanding of the reviewing and monitoring process. You will be a qualified SENDCo or someone with robust experience who is currently undertaking the new NPQ SEND accreditation.

Your responsibilities will include designing and delivering interventions with pupils in the classroom and implementing the school strategy. You will also have 0.3 classroom teaching duties. Suitable candidates will already have managerial responsibilities with a proven track record in leading and developing inclusion practices. This experience may have come from an SLT role or a departmental role. This may be a first SLT role for the right candidate, but they would need to demonstrate a strong and effective approach in previous roles.

The Assistant Headteacher will have responsibility for Inclusion and SEND. The successful candidate should have effective knowledge and experience of this role or be willing to undertake the required training and be able to demonstrate an interest and passion for this aspect of schools and teaching practices.
