The Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) are funded by NHS England, Health Education England and partners with the aim of improving the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people in the community in response to the government’s Green Paper for Young People’s Mental Health.

MHSTs will serve clusters of schools, providing high quality and responsive mental health services to children and young people and their parents/carers, in accordance with Children and Young People’s Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (CYP-IAPT) principles. They will also provide training and support to school staff, helping to embed whole-school approaches to mental health.

The Senior Mental Health Practitioner will focus on providing day to day clinical and supervisory support for the Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs). The team will require development and there will be specific work to ensure robust integration across the schools’ pathway. The role will be working alongside community partners and developing relationships between the new MHST and educational settings.

The postholder is responsible for supporting the development of the MHSTs and embedding their services within educational settings across East Sussex. The postholder maintains a caseload, delivers group interventions and undertakes the role of support co-ordinator for children/young people with mild to moderate mental health problems in educational settings. They will work as an autonomous and accountable practitioner within a multidisciplinary team.
