Skills for the Future: Apprenticeships in the Westmorland Dales

Recruitment is underway for four countryside worker apprentices. This opportunity has been created as part of the Westmorland Dales Landscape Partnership Scheme, grant funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

If you would like to get a job working outdoors in the countryside, while gaining a vocational qualification, this may be the opportunity for you.

The 18 month apprenticeships will be based with the team at Tebay. Apprentices will learn countryside skills and put them to use on a variety of access and conservation projects within the Westmorland Dales, linking with partners and parishes to reveal, conserve and celebrate the hidden heritage of the area.

This apprenticeship will provide you with the chance to develop a wide range of skills in countryside management, plus a Level 2 Countryside Worker Apprenticeship.

Former apprentices Abbi, Billy, Rebekah and Sarah (pictured) earned themselves level two countryside worker qualifications and have achieved qualifications in skills such as chainsaw, quad bike, strimmer and first aid. This has been alongside work based experience on a wide range of projects; everything from fencing to archaeological surveys and just about everything in between.

This is a fully supervised work-based learning opportunity. It will consist of training and assessment within the workplace, supported by off-site training and college residential placements. Qualification is achieved by passing end point practical and theory exams.

The ‘Skills for the Future’ project is part of the Westmorland Dales Landscape Partnership Scheme - a programme grant-funded through the National Lottery Heritage Fund, which aims to reveal, conserve and celebrate the hidden heritage of the area that became part of the extended National Park in 2016.

Four positions are available, based in Tebay, Cumbria, with an expected start date of 23rd August 2021. The duration of the apprenticeships is 18 months, with a salary of £4.90 per hour in year 1, rising to National Minimum Wage in year 2.

Drive is an intervention that works to protect victims of domestic abuse by challenging and changing the behaviour of high harm, high risk and serial perpetrators.

Hampton Trust has been appointed to deliver this intervention on behalf of Dorset Police in association with Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner.

As a case manager you will be allocated to areas in Dorset, although you will be expected to cover other areas due to staff leave for example.

The Case Manager will strive to make contact and work on a one to one basis with perpetrators whose victims have been identified as high risk at MARAC/HRDA or harmful and serial perpetrators through police avenues to pro-actively secure engagement, influence attitudinal and behavioural change and link to complementary services. To do this, the Case Manager will work with existing agencies in each area to implement strategic individual intervention plans to address identified needs and risks and promote understanding of the impact of abusive behaviours.

Throughout the intervention the Case Manager will work closely with the local IDVA service to review risk, feed into safety plans, and improve outcomes for all parties involved. The Case Manager will be responsible over the long term for delivering outcomes, working for typically 10 months to achieve behaviour change with each service user.

You will: • Manage a caseload focussing on high harm, high risk and serial perpetrators to provide an assertive, medium to long term service, based on thorough assessment and individual support planning.

• Maintain a proactive response to service users, continuously providing positive options for behaviour change throughout the service user’s time in the Drive project.

• Use a combination of motivational work, relationship building and a broad range of therapeutic skills to engage service users to address their abusive behaviour • Motivate and support service users to address the broad range of needs that may contribute to the risk that they pose to others or act as barrier for them in addressing that risk e.g. housing, substance use etc.

We would welcome applicants who would like to join us on either a fixed term contract or through a secondment arrangement. Handing on Skills for the Future

Skills for the Future: Apprenticeships in the Westmorland Dales

Recruitment is underway for four countryside worker apprentices. This opportunity has been created as part of the Westmorland Dales Landscape Partnership Scheme, grant funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

If you would like to get a job working outdoors in the countryside, while gaining a vocational qualification, this may be the opportunity for you.

The 18 month apprenticeships will be based with the team at Tebay. Apprentices will learn countryside skills and put them to use on a variety of access and conservation projects within the Westmorland Dales, linking with partners and parishes to reveal, conserve and celebrate the hidden heritage of the area.

This apprenticeship will provide you with the chance to develop a wide range of skills in countryside management, plus a Level 2 Countryside Worker Apprenticeship.

Former apprentices Abbi, Billy, Rebekah and Sarah (pictured) earned themselves level two countryside worker qualifications and have achieved qualifications in skills such as chainsaw, quad bike, strimmer and first aid. This has been alongside work based experience on a wide range of projects; everything from fencing to archaeological surveys and just about everything in between.

This is a fully supervised work-based learning opportunity. It will consist of training and assessment within the workplace, supported by off-site training and college residential placements. Qualification is achieved by passing end point practical and theory exams.

Belinda Lloyd, apprentice supervisor said,

The ‘Skills for the Future’ project is part of the Westmorland Dales Landscape Partnership Scheme - a programme grant-funded through the National Lottery Heritage Fund, which aims to reveal, conserve and celebrate the hidden heritage of the area that became part of the extended National Park in 2016.

Four positions are available, based in Tebay, Cumbria, with an expected start date of 23rd August 2021. The duration of the apprenticeships is 18 months, with a salary of £4.90 per hour in year 1, rising to National Minimum Wage in year 2.

“As part of the Westmorland Dales Landscape Partnership Scheme I’m delighted to have the chance to hand on my skills to four more budding Rangers. Apprentices can look forward to a varied and rewarding experience; everything from drystone walling to wildflower identification.
