E somos todos, juntos, que vamos enfrentar mais um mês cheio de desafios: as renovações dos clubes, as campanhas de membership “Smedley Award”, os Concursos de Improviso e de Humor e, o mais importante, proporcionar cada vez mais e melhores experiências de aprendizagem nos Toastmasters, com diversão e muita emoção!

Como criar um clube Toastmaster? Club Building _Diogo Beja

ostaria de criar um clube Toastmasters? Como poderei fazê-lo? Esta pergunta tem sido feita, tanto por experientes, como por novos Toastmasters presentes nas mais diversas áreas geográficas.

Mesmo tendo em conta que cada local/equipa possa ter diferentes estratégias ou abordagens, a base é comum, e é sobre essa que vos venho falar hoje. Tudo começa com a vontade em formar um clube num novo espaço por uma ou mais pessoas. O local deve ser favorável ao desenvolvimento e crescimento do clube. Uma empresa, uma instituição de ensino, uma associação cultural? É necessário estabelecer um protocolo com o gestor do espaço, de forma a garantir a estabilidade das sessões, seja em termos do local, como de datas. Seleccionar um grupo de Toastmasters que apoie o clube, participando nos primeiros meses das suas sessões. A aprendizagem será de ambas as partes. Submeter o Application to Organize no TMI (cria um prospect club) e, criar o clube no easy-Speak, a plataforma onde gerimos as sessões. Definir o nome do clube e a equipa de officers. Criar endereço de e-mail, página de Facebook e outros. Agendar data para a sessão de demonstração e promover (!) a mesma. Realizar sessões regulares (se possível anunciadas na sessão de demonstração). Reunir 20 membros. Registar o clube no Toastmasters International. Fortalecer o clube, com sessões regulares e de qualidade, incorporando os pontos de melhoria apresentados pelo General Evaluator de cada sessão, que deverá ser um Toastmaster mais experiente e, sempre que possível, de outros clubes. Estamos a preparar uma iniciativa/desafio com o objectivo de fomentar a visita entre clubes e oportunidades de liderança. Na fotografia podem ver o exemplo da Sílvia Viola que, ultrapassando as fronteiras de Portugal, levou o “símbolo” do Padrão dos Descobrimentos até ao clube Toastmasters Zhongguancun Beijing, na China. WHERE LEADERS ARE MADE

[Would you like to create a Toastmasters club? How can I do it? These questions has been asked, by both experienced and new Toastmasters, from the most diverse geographical areas. Even considering that each place/team may have different strategies or approaches, the base is common and that's the one I’m going to talk about today. Everything starts with the desire to form a club in a new space. The place should favor the development and growth of the Club. A company, an educational institution, a cultural association? It is necessary to establish a protocol with the manager of the place, to ensure the stability of the sessions, in terms of location and dates. Select a group of Toastmasters to support the club, participating in their sessions for the first months. This will be a learning experience for both parties. Submit the Application to Organize in TMI (creates a prospect club) and create the club in easy-Speak, the platform where we manage the sessions. Set the name of the club and the team of officers. Create e-mail, Facebook page and others. Schedule date for the Demo Session and promote (!) the same. Hold regular sessions (if possible advertised on Demo Session). Gather 20 members. Register your club in Toastmasters International. Strengthen the club with quality regular sessions, incorporating the points of improvement presented by General Evaluator of each session, which must be an experienced Toastmaster and, whenever possible, from other clubs. For more details you can contact me, beja.diogo@gmail.com. My experience taught me that one of the factors for rapid evolution is visiting and sharing roles in other clubs. We are preparing an initiative/challenge, with the aim of fostering visits between clubs and leadership opportunities. De regresso após as férias de Verão, o Youth Leadership Program está pronto para iniciar mais um ano lectivo com novidades! De Norte a Sul do país, vários membros Toastmasters responderam ao apelo de se juntarem à equipa, para levarem às escolas portuguesas algo que fará a diferença. As boas notícias voam e para abrir o nosso portefólio, a Fundação EDP mostrou disponibilidade para apoiar este programa em algumas escolas do país. Queremos apostar em algo diferente, que potencie as competências de comunicação e, sobretudo, de liderança. Na verdade, esta é uma área com muito espaço de aprendizagem e potencial, a qual deve ser trabalhada nas crianças e jovens, assim como nas próprias escolas. O conceito é simples e fácil, se for aplicado com espírito de equipa. Muito em breve, contamos divulgar a lista de escolas onde poderás encontrar este programa. From North to South, several Toastmasters members responded to the call and joined the team, bringing to Portuguese schools something that will make a difference. Good news travels and to open our portfolio, EDP Foundation showed willingness to support this program in some schools. We want to bet on something different, which enhances the communication and, above all, leadership skills. Actually, this is an area that still reveals plenty of space to be worked on children and youth, as well as in schools. The concept is simple and easy, if applied with team spirit. Very soon, we will disclose the list of schools where you can find this program. If you know any school interested in receiving the Youth Leadership Program, contact your Area Governor. HPL High Performance Leadership _Nelson Emílio

High Performance Leadership ou HPL é, provavelmente, uma das etapas menos conhecida no percurso Toastmaster. No entanto, é uma das que mais valor acresce a quem passa por ela.

O HPL é um programa de liderança baseado nos conceitos de gestão de projectos e está pensado para ser aplicado dentro e fora do Toastmasters. Este programa tem por objectivo dotar os membros das competências necessárias para criarem uma visão, definirem a missão, identificarem os valores pelos quais se vão reger, criarem uma equipa coesa e comprometida, atribuírem responsabilidades e funções a cada elemento, bem como definirem uma estratégia e um plano de acção para atingir os objectivos. Tudo isto feito de uma forma estruturada, acompanhada por uma equipa de supervisão e sempre recebendo o feedback necessário para ajustar o projecto e obter os resultados pretendidos. O HPL é claramente uma peça fundamental para exercitar diferentes aspectos relacionados com liderança e, para isso, o Toastmasters International criou um processo composto por 5 fases, cada uma dividida em 3 etapas: aquisição de conhecimentos, implementação e feedback. Pretende-se que o Toastmaster evolua ao longo de cada uma das fases e que, no final, consiga identificar o que correu bem e o que podia ser melhorado. O foco deste programa está no processo e na aprendizagem ao longo do mesmo e não no atingir dos objectivos, pois não é sequer requisito que o Toastmaster receba o seu reconhecimento para que o projecto seja considerado como concluído. Para que o programa seja um sucesso, é fundamental que cada Toastmaster que esteja a trabalhar no HPL identifique duas equipas: i) uma que irá fazer parte do Guidance Committee, e que irá ajudar o membro na definição de objectivos, no acompanhamento do projecto e na sugestão de melhorias; ii) outra que será responsável pela implementação do projecto, cujas actividades são definidas e geridas pelo Toastmaster que está a trabalhar no HPL. É também necessário adquirir os manuais “#262 - High Performance Leadership” e “#263 – Guidance Committee Handbook”, para que se possa seguir todos os passos que compõem o programa e registar as atividades realizadas ao longo do projecto, servindo assim de base para uma apresentação de resultados que será feita ao clube. Apesar do HPL ser um requisito na obtenção do Advanced Leader Silver, pode ser desenvolvido por qualquer Toastmaster mesmo que não esteja ainda a trabalhar no percurso do ALS. Não existe nenhum requisito obrigatório a nível do percurso Toastmaster, ainda assim recomendo que este projecto só seja considerado após o término do Competent Leadership, altura em que alguns conceitos e bases de liderança já estão interiorizados. O âmbito do projecto é geral, podendo referir-se à criação de um novo clube, à organização de um Speech Craft, um Youth Leadership Program ou uma conferência de Área/Divisão, actividades como Area ou Division Governor, ou ainda qualquer outro projecto legal, ético e socialmente responsável no local de trabalho ou comunidade local, que envolva uma equipa de trabalho. Por isso, incentivo todos os Toastmasters a planearem o seu HPL, pois o trabalho que vão desenvolver durante o mesmo será certamente um contributo extremamente valioso, quer para o vosso percurso, quer para toda a comunidade Toastmasters em Portugal.

Distinguished Club Program [The High Performance Leadership or HPL is probably one of the least known steps in Toastmasters journey, yet one that adds more value to those who pass by it. The HPL is a leadership program based on the concepts of project management, and thought to be applied inside and outside of Toastmasters. This program aims to give members with the skills needed to create a vision, define the mission, identify the values which they will follow, create a cohesive and committed team, assign responsibilities and functions to each element and to define a strategy and an action plan to achieve the goals. All this done in a structured way, followed by a team of "supervision" and always getting the necessary feedback, so they can make adjustments to the project to produce the desired results. The HPL is clearly a key to exercise different aspects of leadership, and for that, the Toastmasters International created a process with five phases, each divided into three steps: knowledge acquisition, implementation and feedback. It is intended that the Toastmaster evolve along each of the phases and at the end can identify what went well and what could be improved. The focus of this program is in process and learning along the same and not in reaching the goals. It is not even a requirement for the project to be considered as completed and the Toastmaster receive their recognition. For the program to be a success, it is essential that every Toastmaster who is working in HPL identifies two teams: i) one that will be part of the Guidance Committee, and that will help the member in setting goals, monitoring the project and suggesting improvements; ii) other that will be responsible for implementing the project, which activities are defined and managed by the Toastmaster who is working in HPL. You also need to purchase the manual # 262 - High Performance Leadership Manual, and the #263 - Guidance Committee Handbook, so you can follow all the steps that make up the program and record all activities throughout the project, to serve thereafter as base on a presentation of results that will be made to the club. Despite the HPL be a requirement in obtaining the Advanced Leader Silver, it can be developed by any Toastmaster, even that is not working on the course of ALS. No mandatory Toastmaster level requirement exists, but l recommend that this project should be considered only after the Competent Leadership conclusion, when some concepts and foundations of leadership are already in the mind. The scope of the project can be virtually anything, from creating a new club, organizing a Speech Craft or Youth Leadership Program, a Area or Division conference, activities such as Area or Division Governor, or any other legal, ethical and socially responsible project, in the workplace or local community, involving a work team. Therefore, I encourage all Toastmasters to plan their HPL, since the work that will develop during the same will certainly be an extremely valuable contribution, to either your path, and for all Toastmasters community in Portugal.

Cada Toastmaster tem à sua disposição um vasto leque de ferramentas de apoio, onde se incluem o site oficial (www.toastmasters.pt), o Facebook e a plataforma de gestão easySpeak (www.tmclub.eu). Este ano foi dado mais um passo na representação do país além fronteiras: integramos a equipa internacional de desenvolvimento do easy-Speak. Primeira grande missão? Traduzir toda a interface para português! E também digno de destaque é o convite lançado ao “nosso” Pedro Fonseca para ser o Webmaster do Distrito 59! Na Divisão D ambicionamos ir sempre além do esperado, por isso, movidos por preocupações ambientais e de optimização de processos, desenvolvemos internamente duas novidades tecnológicas já disponíveis, em exclusivo, para os clubes nacionais: - Agenda electrónica online (agenda.toastmasters.pt): apresentada no TLI em Julho deste ano, marca já presença em várias sessões (ver fotos com diferentes estilos aplicados em Aveiro, Porto e Braga) - evita o uso do suporte em papel e está sempre actualizada a cada refresh. - Formulário de inscrição automático de novos membros para todos os clubes: join.toastmasters.pt

[We increasingly value technology and what it can do for us. At Toastmasters, IT is not the cornerstone, but we believe its resources allow us investing time in what really matters: people. Every Toastmaster has several tools available, namely the official website (www.toastmasters.pt), Facebook and our management system: easy-Speak (www.tmclub.eu). This year, we extended the representation of our country abroad by joining easy-Speak's international development team. First big mission? Translate it to Portuguese! Sucesso por Objectivos Uma das funcionalidades do easy-Speak, a que damos grande destaque, é a possibilidade de marcação de objectivos, algo que aconselhamos vivamente, já que permite a cada Toastmaster ter uma visão abrangente sobre os seus futuros projectos, bem como uma noção da maior ou menor dificuldade em atingir os mesmos em função do seu desempenho actual. A tarefa é muito simples e deve ser idealmente realizada no início de cada ano Toastmaster: basta ir ao menu “My Participation” do easy-Speak, escolher “View my Speech Progress” ou “View my CL (ALB/ALS/ALG) Progress” e clicar em “+ new goal”. [Setting goals to succeed One of easy-Speak's features is the possibility of setting goals, something we highly recommend. It presents each Toastmaster with a viewport of its future intended projects, followed by an estimation of the difficulty level in achieving those goals, based on their current performance. It's a very simple task, that should ideally be done in the beginning of each Toastmaster year: just head on to easy-Speak's “My Participation” menu, choose “View my Speech Progress” or “View my CL (ALB/ALS/ALG) Progress” and click on “+ new goal”. Fill out the form and join the “Toastmasters with clear goals” success family ! You can check your club members' progress at: http://tmclub.eu/memberchart.php?chart=10

o que acontece quando um grupo de intrépidos Toastmasters se reúnem um fim-de-semana em Roma para partilharem aprendizagens, objectivos e experiências?

Um momento único, daqueles que recordamos toda vida! Foi o que aconteceu no fim-de-semana de 5 e 6 de Setembro, no District Executive Council Meeting, com a presença do District Governor e a equipa de officers do District 59, dos Division Governors e dos Area Governors. A equipa portuguesa compareceu em força, apenas com a ausência (ainda que só física, pois levámo-lo no coração) do nosso Nuno Maximiano da Área D2, por motivos imponderáveis. Alinhámos estratégias, partilhámos conquistas e, acima de tudo, ouvimos muito, de forma a trazermos tudo o que pudesse contribuir para tornar cada vez melhor a "experiência Toastmaster" de cada um dos nossos membros. Assim, não só fazemos a diferença na vida destes, como também melhoramos os nossos clubes e o nosso próprio papel enquanto líderes ao serviço desta grande organização! Mas para que não fiquem apenas com as minhas palavras sobre este grande encontro da família Toastmasters, aqui fica o registo de mais alguns dos nossos líderes portugueses! Da minha parte duas palavras finais: GRATIDÃO e ORGULHO! É um privilégio partilhar estes momentos com todos vós! "Uma familia faz a diferença! Esta será, porventura, a frase que melhor resume o que senti durante o fim-de-semana passado em Roma, no DECM. Uma família que pressupõe um alinhamento comum no propósito e na hierarquia de valores seguida, na qual todos alicerçamos o crescimento conjunto. Foi isto mesmo que experienciei, pois senti um nível de alinhamento extraordinário, as aprendizagens foram várias e de tamanho XXL, bem como todo o sentimento de pertença Toastmasters que foi magnífico! Todos os membros Toastmasters podem ter a certeza que é possível ser Area Governor, Division ou mesmo District Governor. Qualquer um pode consegui-lo. A receita? Algo muito simples... ousadia q.b. e auto-confiança. O resto, a familia ajuda!" [And what happens when a group of intrepid Toastmasters meet for a weekend in Rome to share learning, experiences and objectives? A single moment, we’ll remember for life! It happened on the weekend of September 5th and 6th, the District Executive Council Meeting, attended by the District Governor and the team of officers of District 59, the Division Governors and Area Governors. The Portuguese team showed up in force, just with the absence (only physical, because we carried him in our hearts) of our Nuno Maximiano from Area D2, for unforeseeable reasons! We aligned strategies, shared achievements and, above all, we heard much to be sure that we could bring everything that can help the "Toastmaster experience" of our members. We hope to make a difference in their live, in clubs and in our own role as leaders at the service of this great organization! But so they are not just my words about this great Toastmaster family experience. Here it is the record of some of our Portuguese leaders! My final two words: GRATITUDE and PRIDE! It is a privilege to share these moments with all of you! "A family makes a difference! This is perhaps the phrase that best sums up what I felt during the weekend in Rome, at DECM. A family, which presupposes a common alignment in purpose and values, in which all together make the foundation for growth. This was exactly what I experienced: an extraordinary level of alignment, an opportunity to learn a lot, in size XXL, as well as the whole sense of belonging Toastmasters, which was magnificent! I intend that all Toastmasters members are sure that everyone can be Area, Division or even District Governor. The recipe? Something very simple as daring... and selfconfidence. "No passado DECM, em Roma, onde tive oportunidade de falar com vários nossos colegas Toastmasters, aproveitei para lhes colocar algumas questões nomeadamente: ‘Porque é que se juntaram a um clube Toastmasters? ‘ ou ‘Porque é que continuam num clube Toastmasters?’. A resposta à primeira questão deixou-me surpreendido: quase todos disseram que se juntaram a um clube Toastmasters para adquirir à vontade ao falar para um grupo de pessoas. E agora, certamente apenas dois ou três anos depois, ali estavam eles a discursar para um público constituído por várias dezenas de pessoas de várias nacionalidades. Isto é, sem dúvida, o que se poderá considerar um verdadeiro milagre Toastmasters! Vale mesmo a pena pertencer a um clube Toastmasters!” - Paulo Rodrigues, AG D1 "É com um prazer enorme que partilho com vocês algumas das grandes aprendizagens que tirei na formação DECM, realizada neste fim-de-semana em Roma. RELACIONAMENTOS - tanto na vida pessoal como na profissional relacionamo-nos com pessoas que, de alguma forma, por algum motivo, nos fazem sentir ‘próximos’ e com as quais partilhamos um propósito comum... de todas as áreas presentes: Portugal, Espanha, França, Suiça, Luxemburgo, Bélgica, Itália, Holanda; o espírito, a visão, o compromisso é igual (mesmo com tantas diferenças culturais e geográficas)! COMPROMISSO - Mais do que atingir pontos do DCP... mais do que abrir clubes, ter novos membros, cumprir projectos... aquilo que motiva os Area/District Governors é o mesmo... as Pessoas! Aceitaram o desafio (por vezes complicado) porque as pessoas confiaram neles(as) e não podem/devem falhar! Porque querem chegar mais longe! Porque querem ver reconhecido o Clube/Área/Distrito, a que pertencem, como um exemplo... FUN - que mais podemos querer, quando juntamos muitas pessoas??? Diversão! Motivação! Paixão!!! Um momento inesquecível! E para mim foi inesquecível... tinha muitas expectativas, pois era a primeira vez que ia a uma formação de Área... com tantos países envolvidos, com tantas pessoas diferentes... e, afinal, somos todos iguais! Somos Toastmasters!!!! Obrigada a todos os que me deram esta oportunidade de crescer, como comunicadora e como líder!” Sofia Trindade, AG D5

["In the past DECM in Rome, where I had the opportunity to talk with our many colleagues Toastmasters, I asked them some questions such as: ‘Why did they joined a Toastmasters club’ or ‘Why continue in a Toastmasters club?’. The answer to the 1st question left me surprised: almost all said they joined a Toastmasters club to acquire at ease in speaking to some people. And now, surely only 2 or 3 years later, they were there speaking to an audience consisting of several dozen people of several nationalities. This is undoubtedly what could be considered a Toastmasters miracle! It really worth belong to a Toastmasters club!” - Paulo Rodrigues, AG D1 "It is with great pleasure that I share with you some of the great lessons I took during DECM training, on this weekend in Rome. RELATIONSHIPS - both in personal and professional life, we are related to people that somehow, for some reason, make us feel ‘close’, as we have a common purpose... to all areas present: Portugal, Spain, France, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands; the spirit, the vision, the commitment is the same (even with so many cultural and geographical differences)! COMMITMENT - More than achieving the DCP points... more than opening clubs, have new members, complete projects... what motivates Area/District Governors is the same... People! They accepted the challenge (sometimes complicated), because people trusted them, and they can’t/must not fail! Because they want to go further! Because they want to see recognized the Club/Area/District to which they belong, as an example... FUN - what more can we wish, when we join many people together??? Fun! Motivation! Passion!!! An unforgettable moment! And for me, it was unforgettable... I had many expectations, because it was the first time I went to a Area training... with so many countries involved, with so many different people... and after all, we are all the same! “Open House” Na primeira quarta-feira de cada mês, o LOT promove uma open house, ou seja, uma sessão diferente, especialmente dedicada aos nossos visitantes e que conta com a presença de um convidado especial. É uma excelente oportunidade de nos conhecer e de aprender com as partilhas do orador convidado. “Para além das fronteiras” Este programa do LOT visa estabelecer parcerias com as escolas da sua zona de influência, de modo a levar a sua missão e valores, dentro do espírito e das boas práticas do Toastmasters a nível internacional.

Support Project As usual, LOT continues to generate opportunities for its members to develop their social skills, along with the communication and leadership skills. This year, a partnership with the Instituto Padre António Vieira (IPAV) to collaborate on the "Justice for All" project, aimed at young people facing social exclusion. The partnership aims to give a new life to the mission Toastmasters - enable these young people to become better communicators and leaders!

Notícias da D2 Mês de Setembro = Acção + Diversão! _Nuno Maximiano

etembro é por excelência um mês de muito trabalho no Toastmasters! Após uma merecida pausa para férias, impõe-se agora atingir a velocidade de cruzeiro em cada clube, retomando as sessões com energia e dinamismo renovados.

É neste período também que se vive um momento muito especial para todos os Toastmasters – o Concurso de Discursos de Outono! Os clubes da D2 estão já a trabalhar com muito entusiasmo na preparação do concurso de cada clube, que incluirá discursos de humor e improviso. Os vencedores de cada clube irão competir no dia 18 de Outubro no concurso da Área D2. Convido desde já todos os Toastmasters a participarem ou assistir, para partilharmos um dia espectacular nas instalações da ANJE, em Algés. Em linha com o plano da Área, estamos também a trabalhar na prospecção de novos clubes para levar mais longe o conceito Toastmasters. Convido-vos a participarem numa sessão de demonstração para a Fundação Champalimaud, que irá ocorrer na Quinta do Crestelo em Seia, no próximo dia 4 de Outubro. Esta sessão será incluída no Champalimaud Student Retreat. Os detalhes desta sessão especial podem ser consultados no easy-Speak. Vamos continuar a fazer história na Área D2 !

[September is a hard work month for Toastmasters! After a well-deserved holiday break, it is now time to resume meetings with renewed energy and dynamism. It is also in this period that we experience a very special moment for all Toastmasters – the Fall Speech Contest! Area D2 clubs are already working in the preparation of each club contest, which will include humor and impromptu speeches. The winners from each club will compete in the D2 Area Contest, on October 18. I would like to invite all Toastmasters to participate in this spectacular day, on the ANJE facilities in Algés. In line with the plan of the Area, we are also working on prospecting for new clubs, to take further the Toastmasters concept. You are all invited to participate in a Demo Session for the Champalimaud Foundation, which will take place on the Crestelo Farm, at Seia, on October 4. This session will be included in the Champalimaud Student Retreat. The details of this special session can be found in easy-Speak. Let's continue to make history in the D2 Area!

Porque há Toastmasters que se recusam a ir de férias, durante o mês de Agosto decorreu o concurso Photo Summer Contest. As fotos que concorreram estão publicadas na página do Facebook. Mantendo o espírito Toastmaster e porque somos viciados em brindes, alguns clubes da Área D2 organizaram jantares de rentrée. Exemplos do Tagus e do Young, que reuniram os seus membros em dois eventos memoráveis, com muito convívio e, claro está, com muitos discursos! Houve até sessões improvisadas de “Discursos by Marginal”! As datas dos Concursos de Discursos dos clubes da Área D2: Young Entrepreneurs TM - dia 29/9; International Speakers TM - dia 01/10; Taguspark Toastmasters Club - dia 04/10; Pestana Sintra Toastmasters - a definir; Business Leaders Toastmasters Club - a definir.

[Even in August and with some clubs closed, there were some active Toastmasters and The Photo Summer Contest took place. The photos in contest can be found on our Facebook page. Keeping the Toastmaster spirit, and because we cannot resist to a good toast, some clubs in Area D2 started with rentrée dinners. Taguspark and Young Entrepreneurs gather their members for some memorable meetings around a table, with good food and, of course, very good speeches. There was even improvised sessions "Speeches by Marginal"! The dates of the Speech Contests of clubs in the D2 Area: Young Entrepreneurs TM - 29/9; International Speakers TM - 01/10; Taguspark Toastmasters Club - 04/10; Pestana Sintra Toastmasters - to be announced; Business Leaders Toastmasters Club – to be announced. The D2 Area Contest will be in ANJE, Algés, on October 18, starting at 2:30PM. Let's participate in the speech contests and put ourselves to test in this competition, full of fun and fellowship!

VAGOS TOASTMASTERS Após alguma reflexão e curiosidade sobre o significado de Toastmasters e o que está por trás do conceito, surgiu, em Vagos, a ideia de aderir ao mundo Toastmasters e criar um novo clube que potencie a comunicação. Assim, nasceu mais um membro desta família, o Vagos Toastmasters Club, que teve a sua sessão inaugural no passado dia 11 de Setembro de 2014, pelas 21h no salão nobre da Câmara Municipal desta cidade, Palacete do Visconde de Valdemouro, data que ficará certamente marcada pela era da comunicação verbal e não verbal em Vagos! CLUBE TOASTMASTERS DE AVEIRO CLUTAS e amigos calçam as sapatilhas! No dia 27 de Julho, os membros do Clube Toastmasters de Aveiro juntaram a família e os amigos para um dia de convívio e interacção com a Natureza. O ponto de encontro foi marcado bem cedo. Lancheiras recheadas de pequenas delícias para partilha e equipamento a preceito para uma manhã de caminhada. Ninguém se esqueceu do espírito de equipa, da alegria e das boas energias. À hora marcada estávamos reunidos para a aventura. Pessegueiro do Vouga, uma freguesia do concelho de Sever do Vouga, foi o local escolhido pela oferta de caminhos pedestres bem conservados que permitem ao mesmo tempo um bom exercício para as pernas, ar saudável para os pulmões e vistas agradáveis pela serra. Pelo caminho, o espírito de equipa prevaleceu e foi necessário para que os nossos pequeninos companheiros conseguissem ultrapassar alguns obstáculos. À ultima hora fizemos um desvio e acabámos por passar no tabuleiro da magnífica ponte da antiga linha do Vouguinha. Já estávamos em cima da hora do almoço quando regressámos ao nosso ponto de origem. Preparados para a melhor parte, rumámos à Cascata da Cabreia situada na freguesia de Silva Escura e instalámo-nos confortavelmente em mesas de piquenique e em mantas pelo chão para o aguardado repasto e também para dar descanso às pernas. CASTELO BRANCO TOASTMASTERS CLUB A palavra do mês de Castelo Branco Club … obra! Após um verão activo, onde as sessões foram regulares, e nas quais tivemos o prazer de ter recebido convidados especiais, Setembro inicia com o novo semestre à porta. E também com grandes planos e projectos definidos, onde o percurso, a aprendizagem e a motivação de todos os membros é o nosso foco. Já celebrámos e agora é tempo de concretizar a nossa estratégia e estarmos cada vez mais presentes na cidade que nos viu nascer. Agora é tempo de lançarmos as mãos à obra, sempre de acordo com os elevados padrões Toastmasters. Vamos inovar e valorizar ainda mais o que podemos dar e receber deste universo. Vamos expandir a nossa rede, fazendo-nos ouvir em cada vez mais locais. É com elevadas expetativas que retomamos este novo ciclo!

[Another year, another full dynamic startup! After a well deserved vacation, nothing like family support to help us do better. In this sense, here at home has been like: VAGOS TOASTMASTERS; After some thought and curiosity about the meaning of Toastmasters and what's behind the concept, the idea of joining this world and create a new Toastmasters club that enhances communication has emerged in Vagos. Thus a new member of this family was born, the Vagos Toastmasters Club, which held its inaugural session on last September 11, 2014, at 21h in the auditorium of the Town Hall of this city, the Palace Viscount Valdemouro, a date that will certainly start a verbal and nonverbal communication era in Vagos! CLUBE TOASTMASTERS DE AVEIRO: On July 27, members of the Clube Toastmasters de Aveiro joined family and friends for a day of socialization and Nature interaction. The meeting point was defined early. Stuffed lunchboxes with delicious snacks for sharing and equipment provision for a morning walk were ready. Nobody forgot the team spirit, joy and good vibrations. At the appointed time we were meeting for the adventure. Pessegueiro do Vouga, one county town of Sever do Vouga, was chosen by the well-maintained hiking trails that allow both a good exercise for the legs, healthy air to the lungs and nice views. By the way, team spirit prevailed and it was quite necessary so that our little fellow managed to overcome some obstacles. At the last minute we made a detour and ended up passing on the magnificent bridge of Vouguinha old-line. We were just in time for lunch when we got back to our origin point. Ready for the best part, we headed to the Cabreia’s Cascade situated in the parish of Silva Escura and we settled ourselves comfortably at picnic tables and on blankets on the floor for the anticipated meal and also to give rest to the legs. CASTELO BRANCO TOASTMASTERS CLUB: The word of the month in Castelo Branco Toastmasters Club: work! After an active summer, where the sessions were scheduled and in which we were pleased to have received special guests, the new semester is about to begin. Therefore, we have great plans and projects defined, where learning and motivation of all members is our focus. It is now time to implement our strategy as we are increasingly present in the city that gave birth to us. It is now time to work according to the highest standards of Toastmasters. Let's innovate and further enhance what we can give and receive this universe. We will expand our network, making us hear more and more. It is with high expectations this new cycle is resumed!

COIMBRA TOASTMASTERS CLUB Aqui não há depressões pós-férias! Entrámos em Setembro com os dois pés, três sessões especiais, uma campanha de angariação de novos membros e outra para membros. A primeira sessão especial teve como tema “Férias e Viagens”, a segunda será na totalidade em inglês e a maratona consistirá num percurso pedonal pelas margens do Mondego, com paragens para a apresentação de discursos preparados por Toastmasters indicados por cada um dos clubes da Area D3. A campanha “Regresso às Aulas” que estamos a realizar permite-nos fazer crescer o clube e, com isso, partilhar conhecimento e experiência. Todos os novos membros que se inscrevam durante o mês de Setembro, não pagarão a inscrição e o membro responsável por essa adesão terá uma mensalidade de desconto. Para os membros, estão a decorrer as campanhas, “Like it, like it”, na qual ganha quem tiver mais amigos fãs da nossa página, “O maior da minha aldeia”, cujo prémio vai para quem levar mais pessoas a assistir às sessões CTC de Setembro e, “Eu é que sou o Presidente da Junta”, onde vence quem angariar mais novos membros para o clube. LEIRIA TOASTMASTERS CLUB Os ventos do pinhal de Leiria anunciam boas novas! Depois de umas férias de Verão com temperaturas amenas, o Leiria Toastmaster Club abre portas para sessões semanais. Ousamos e acreditamos que este salto é para corajosos e para quem espera mais deste clube! Continuamos a marcar presença no ISLA e já temos caras novas entre os membros, com elementos que estão a marcar presença de outras nacionalidades … Polónia! A Ewelina está entre nós desde finais de Julho até meados de Outubro, e já confessou a sua admiração pela cidade, pelo clube e pelo nosso país! Também é desta forma que se mantêm as sessões animadas e divertidas, sempre à descoberta de novas formas para imprimir mais dinâmica e criatividade. Já temos data para o concurso de Outono, próximo dia 9 de Outubro, estamos a trabalhar no kit mentor e apostamos em levar sessões para novos espaços culturais, para divulgar o conceito e recolher sugestões de melhoria. [COIMBRA TOASTMASTERS CLUB: In Coimbra there is no post holiday depression! Entered September with two feet, three special sessions, a campaign to recruit new and old members. The first special session was titled "Holiday and Travel“. The second will be in a full marathon in English and consist of a pedestrian route along the banks of the River Mondego, with stops for presenting prepared speeches. The third will be the "Back to School" campaign, in which we intend to grow the club and also share knowledge and experience. All new members who register during the month of September, will not pay the registration and the member responsible for this registration will have a tuition discount. For members, the campaigns ongoing are the "like it, like it“, in which whoever has more friends in our fans’ page wins, the “greatest of my village" whose prize goes to those who lead more people to attend sessions, and the "I am the president of the board“, in which you win if you bring more new members to the club. LEIRIA TOASTMASTERS CLUB: The winds of Leiria’s pine forest bring good news! After a summer holiday, where temperatures were milder, the Leiria Toastmaster Club opens doors for weekly sessions. We continue in ISLA and we already have new faces among the members, with elements that are marking the presence of other nationalities ... Poland! Ewelina is among us since the end of July to mid-October and has confessed her admiration for the city, the club and for our country! The autumn contest will be on the 9th October, we are working on a kit mentor and we intend to have sessions on new cultural spaces, to publicize the concept and to gather suggestions for improvement. Tudo isto em sessões incluídas na agenda quinzenal, acrescido de momentos de partilha e convívio dos seus membros e dos membros de clubes vizinhos.

Área D4 recomeça o ano com muita energia e renovada dinâmica. O OTC continua a promover sessões em inglês, agora com uma frequência

de duas por mês (na 2ª e 4ª semana, sempre às segundas-feiras), sendo todas as outras sessões em português. Tem vindo a bater recordes de convidados (14 na última sessão) e, naturalmente, de novos membros. Sem dúvida, um grande clube em permanente renovação, como muito bem se deseja. Beneficiam desta renovação os novos membros e todos os que se vão mantendo, pois recebem e partilham novas dinâmicas, reforçando as suas aprendizagens. Toda esta dinâmica trouxe ao OTC mais um award, o “Beat the Clock”! A dedicação de muitos dos seus membros a apoiar outros clubes, permitiu-lhe ainda receber dois merecidos “Founders Awards” e tal como eles dizem: “Mais do que o reconhecimento da dedicação e trabalho realizado, celebramos o termos levado mais longe, e até mais pessoas, um conceito que nos une e que faz a diferença em nós e em quem nos rodeia: o Toastmasters”.

[Area D4 restarts the year with lots of energy and a renewed dynamic. The OTC still promotes English sessions, now 2 per month (on the 2nd and 4th week, always on Mondays), and all other sessions are in Portuguese. OTC has been hitting guests records (14 in the last session) and, of course, new members. Definitely, a great club in constant renewal, as desired. Everyone benefits from this dynamic, new members learn with old members and vice versa, which reinforces learning and sharing principles. As a consequence of this work, the club received another the"Beat the Clock“ award. The dedication of many of its members to support other clubs, also gave them the deserved "Founders Awards“. As they say: "More than the recognition of our dedication and work, we celebrate taking further, and to even more people, a concept that we all share and that makes a difference in ourselves and in those around us: Toastmasters“.

O TecMaia TMC tenta encontrar o ritmo e a cadência que permita levar o clube para os padrões que já atingiu. Saibamos todos em conjunto definir um modelo de sucesso para as suas sessões. Ficamos a contar com a vivacidade e dinâmica de toda a equipa da Área neste apoio periódico às sessões do TecMaia. Uma palavra final para os nossos novos clubes, o EDP e o Invicta, que consolidaram a sua dinâmica e crescente autonomia, conseguindo atrair também novos participantes às suas sessões. São já uma certeza e um exemplo a seguir. Parabéns a todos eles. [The BTC continues to beat their records, starting with the active participation of its members and an increasing number of guests attending the sessions. With a bi-weekly schedule, many have been the moments of sharing and conviviality between its members and members of neighboring clubs. ovidades… na zona Sul do País, Algarve e Alentejo! Há quem diga que o mês de Setembro é a altura ideal para recomeçar uma nova

etapa. Depois das férias… do descanso… é tempo de arregaçar as mangas e por mãos à obra! Analisam-se os objectivos do DCP e desenha-se a estratégia a implementar para lá chegar… a President’s Distinguished Club! Entre sessões habituais, para membros e todos os convidados que queiram conhecer o enorme potencial que o Toastmasters International representa no desenvolvimento das competências de comunicação e liderança; entre sessões especiais e outros eventos, as ideias não param!

Assim como não param as novidades nos clubes da Área D5. Momentos especiais no Algarve Toastmasters Club No Algarve Toastmasters Club há espaço para momentos de profunda reflexão e outros de pura diversão. No dia 17 de Setembro propusemo-nos a fazer uma sessão de se lhe tirar o chapéu. Os chapéus usados pelos membros foram alvo de concurso e, claro, não faltaram sorrisos e gargalhadas. Para o dia 4 de Outubro estamos a preparar uma sessão especial, que contará com a presença da Marcela Rosa, a qual irá realizar um workshop sob a temática “Motivação e Pensamento Positivo”, seguindo-se um almoço convívio. Não vão faltar momentos especiais para membros especiais, estando todos convidados a participar!

[News... in the South of the country, Algarve and Alentejo! Some say that September is the ideal month to a new start. On September 17 we purposed ourselves to do a “take the hat” session. Member’s hats were subject to contest and, of course, there were lots of smiles and laughs. Next October 4, we are preparing a special session with Marcela Rosa, who will conduct a workshop under the theme "Motivation and Positive Thinking", followed by a lunch. rentrée iniciou-se com grande fulgor nos clubes da Área, com os membros a confessarem as saudades acumuladas ao longo de um mês sem sessões. Mas os projectos são mais que muitos, quer ao nível dos clubes, quer ao nível da

Área. No passado dia 20 de Setembro, a Área participou no Congresso Nacional 4US, promovido pela Ecozoic Júnior Empresa, uma Júnior Empresa gerida exclusivamente por estudantes de Engenharia do Ambiente, com sede na Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa. A equipa da Área optou por realizar um workshop com pendor marcadamente interactivo, para divulgação do conceito Toastmasters. O workshop, com duração de cerca de duas horas, contou com a participação de membros dos três clubes que actualmente compõem a Área (Almada, Barreiro e Montijo). E claro, com a participação activa da jovem assistência. Particularmente original foi o debate conduzido pelo 1st Toastmaster com a assistência, sobre tudo o que viram, tudo o que se passou no palco e sobre o que mais apreciaram no conceito Toastmasters. A sessão finalizou com um discurso motivacional do Area Governor sobre a diferença que faz “sermos Toastmasters”. Mais uma jornada de divulgação do conceito TM e dos clubes da Margem Sul do Tejo, em particular. Em matéria de club building, referência para a sessão de demonstração do ATEC TM, um clube aberto em Palmela no passado dia 23 , com sede no Parque industrial da AutoEuropa. Mais do que saudar um novo clube, tratou-se de uma festa, com uma sessão de demonstração que contou com um número elevado de convidados e com a ajuda de membros dos vários clubes da Área. O clube arrancará com sessões semanais às segundas-feiras, pelas 18:30. Estão todos desde já convidados a visitar este clube que conta com extraordinárias instalações. Naturalmente que terá todo o suporte da Área e da sua equipa. Go ATEC!

[Returning to business after a month of inactivity due to holidays was quite thrill, as members of Area’s clubs expressed they were missing clubs’ meetings. Clubs and the Area itself have many projects to organize and implement at the beginning of the season. Last September 20, the Area has participated in a nationwide congress 4US, at the University of Science and Technology in Almada, organized by a start up Company, Eozoic Junior, a company specialized in environment engineering. Area Team choose to deliver an interactive workshop, involving the audience all the time. During the two hours that the presentation took, several members of each one of the clubs in the Area (Almada, Barreiro and Montijo) performed several roles, speeches and table topics, with participation and feedback of the young audience. Particularly original was the debate headed by the 1st TM, with the audience on the workshop, about what were the strengths and what could be improved. The session ended with a motivational speech delivered by the Area Governor, with the theme “Being a Toastmaster” and the difference that it makes in peoples lives. It was mainly an initiative to promote Toastmasters and particularly the clubs within the Area. Regarding club building, the prospect ATEC TM, a community club located in AutoEuropa industrial plant, in Palmela, had its Demo Session on September 23rd. More than welcoming a new club, the event was a party where many guests showed up and Toastmasters from other Area’s clubs offered their help at the meeting. The club will conduct sessions every Monday at 6:30PM. Everybody is invited to visit the club and it's amazing facilities. Go ATEC!

Destaque especial para o já incontornável e inspirador MiniToastmasters, numa organização conjunta das Áreas D1, D2, D6 e D7, a decorrer no dia 28 de Setembro. Este evento reúne crianças dos 6 aos 17 anos, que mais uma vez nos irão surpreender com mensagens cuja profundidade não estamos à espera. Acreditamos que este tipo de iniciativas ajuda ao desenvolvimento das nossas crianças, fazendo-as despontar para uma das mais importantes valências do ser humano: a comunicação. Além de trazer grande visibilidade ao Toastmasters, promove a organização dentro da comunidade, contribuindo para o fortalecimento do membership. Está também em preparação o concurso de Área que, não tendo ainda local definido (terá lugar em Almada ou no Montijo), decorrerá no dia 18 de Outubro, e para o qual estão todos convidados a assistir.

[Another event that draws special attention is the MiniToastmasters, that Areas D1, D2, D6 and D7 (Lisbon region) are organizing jointly, to be held on September 28. This event gathers children from 6 to 17 years old, that certainly will deliver surprising and meaningful messages, that some of us do not expect to ear from the youngest. We believe that this sort of initiatives helps to develop our children’s skills and makes them aware of the importance of communication. This kind of initiatives also brings visibility to Toastmasters as an organization that integrates and serves the community, strengthening membership as well. Area Fall Conference on October 18 is already being prepared and all of you are invited to come.

o passado dia 26 de Julho de 2014, comemorou-se em Portugal o dia Nacional dos Avós. O Business Speakers Toastmasters Club, por sugestão de um membro do clube,

considerou que não devia deixar passar este dia sem o comemorar. Nesse sentido, foi organizado um evento para homenagear os eternamente jovens e as suas potencialidades, as quais continuam a desempenhar um papel fundamental na sociedade atual. Denominado “Avós com voz”, o evento decorreu em Lisboa, no jardim da AUDAX/Vodafone Labs e contou com a presença e testemunhos de vários avós, netos, bisavós e bisnetos. Foi uma manhã muito enriquecedora, onde a partilha e o carinho tomaram lugar de destaque. Fomos presenteados com testemunhos vivos de memórias passadas, de vivências diferentes, de lições de vida em forma de histórias e de lindas homenagens de netos-Toastmasters às suas avós. Também o Table Topics especial, em jeito de jogo “história inacabada”, permitiu a participação de todos os presentes e foi mais um dos momentos divertidos da sessão. No final do evento fomos surpreendidos com uma bela fatia de bolo, receita secreta de uma avó muito especial! Muito obrigado a todos os participantes. O Clube Toastmasters do Funchal celebrou a sua 100.ª sessão a bordo da Nau Santa Maria, no dia 13 de Setembro. A avaliar pela foto-reportagem, foi uma sessão fantástica, com bastante participação. Parabéns ao clube do Funchal, e a todos os seus membros, por este evento inesquecível.

[On the last July 26, was celebrated in Portugal the National Grandparents Day. The Business Speakers Toastmasters Club, by suggestion of a club member, felt that it should not pass without celebrating this day. An event was organized to honor the eternally young people and their potential, which continue to play a key role in today's society. Called "Grandparents Voice", the event was held in Lisbon, in the gardens of AUDAX/Vodafone Labs, and had the presence and testimony of several grandparents, grandchildren, greatgrandparents and great-grandchildren. It was a very enriching morning, with lots of sharing and caring. We were presented with live testimonials from past memories, different experiences, of life lessons, in the form of stories, and beautiful tributes from grandchildren-Toastmasters to their grandparents. Also the Table Topics were special, with the game "unfinished story", that allowed the participation of all present and was one of the most entertaining moments of the session. At the end of the event we were surprised with a nice slice of cake, secret recipe of a very special grandmother! Many thanks to all participants! The Toastmasters Club of Funchal celebrated its 100th session on September 13th, aboard the Nau Santa Maria. Judging by the photos, it was a fantastic session with high levels of participation. E para terminar o Verão em grande, o Torres Toastmasters Club irá realizar no próximo dia 27 de Setembro uma sessão especial, dedicada ao vinho. De manhã, haverá a oportunidade de participar numa vindima, como era realizada nos anos 70 do século passado, num almoço convívio e, na parte da tarde, numa sessão de Toastmasters onde o tema central será “O Vinho e Arte de o Produzir”. Esta sessão será realizada na Quinta da Folgorosa, que faz parte do circuito Rota de Vinhos do Oeste/Linhas de Torres. [And to end the summer in great style, Torres Toastmasters Club will held, on September 27th, a special session dedicated to wine. In the morning, there will be the opportunity to participate in a vintage, as it was done in the 70’s of last century, in a convivial lunch, and in the afternoon, in a Toastmasters session with the theme "The Wine and the Art of Making it". This session will be held on Folgorosa’s Farm, part of the West Lines Wine Circuit of Torres. The Advanced Runners Toastmaster Club will hold the club Fall Contest this October 6th.
