"The "Great Resignation" to the "Great Regret" - We get it - for companies, employees were scarce and for employees, salaries and opportunities were abundant. "The Power of the Pause" - Client Theme

Hot Topics

In my work with clients this month, this was a consistent theme. Have you ever received an email or text and had an immediate negative reaction? Do you feel you have to answer someone's question in a meeting immediately? What if you stepped back for a moment and used the "power of the pause" to give yourself some time to process and react appropriately? Try it sometime, it just might give you power in the moment.

""Building Better Bosses" - Inc. Magazine

Employees who leave a company cite the quality of and relationship with their boss as one of the key factors in their decision to leave. If we want to help manage attrition, we need to build better bosses. That takes a focus on leadership development and increased transparency with employees. Praise also goes a long way as well. Committing to building better bosses will lead to greater success.

Increased Engagementthe Key to Better Business Outcomes According to the 2020 Q12® Meta-Analysis: 10th Edition by Gallup, there are 12 areas where they have repeatedly studied the link between the elements of engagement and business outcomes. My summary of those elements from the employee’s point of view is below. P A G E 4 Want to explore this topic with me in more depth? CLICK HERE TO SCHEDULE A COMPLIMENTARY CALL OR SCAN THE CODE What you notice from these elements may help inform your plans to enhance engagement moving forward. You will notice several important ones, such as finding what makes employees tick and what keeps them motivated, offering praise as well as critical discussions regarding their progress, and a focus on development. All involve transparency, communication, and focus on employees and team.

You must use the silence strategy very intentionally. Here are some ways to think about it: How do you use silence in your communication strategy?

Let others know you are taking a moment to gather your thoughts or consider the point they just made. This makes the silence less "awkward" for others. Consider using silence after you have made a point to allow others to absorb your emotions or those of others in the room. Create a powerful response window and allow those participating to observe non-verbal cues as well. Remaining silent can also be a sign of respect to someone of higher status than you. Use silence to calm a heated exchange in order to control the potential damage that might occur if allowed to continue. You can also use silence to signal disapproval or someone crossing a boundary. Whether you are negotiating for a raise or trying to get a "yes" for a key strategic initiative, one simple strategy can make all the difference - staying quiet. We avoid silence, particularly in business. We feel we need to fill in the blanks when there is a gap in conversation. We get uncomfortable, uneasy. We have all heard the term, "awkward silence". What if you could reframe that concept into one that can work in your favor? When you pause at key points in a conversation or meeting, the statements take on a more robust meaning and allows others to fully absorb and/or process them. Others are already formulating their responses as you are speaking, so giving them time to more fully conceptualize their response can be very rewarding to those participating.
