First wall goes up — name change coming next year
Maricopa Integrated Health System (MIHS), with a 140-year tradition of serving as Maricopa County’s public teaching hospital and safety net health care system, announced last week it will be named Valleywise Health next year. With the name change, all system-wide MIHS facilities, including its hospital, two behavioral health centers, an outpatient specialty
center and 12 family health centers will adopt the Valleywise Health name and logo mid-2019, in addition to changes in facility signage and additional logo elements. The name and brand change will allow consumers to more easily identify Valleywise Health c a r e lo c a ti ons a nd s e r v i c e s . While its name is changing,

She’s just 10 years old, a fifth-grader at Paseo Verde Elementary School. She is also a junior in Girl Scout Troop 966. She is presently working on her Bronze award, the highest award a junior Girl Scout can earn. Her job? Identify a community need and find a way to meet that need. While driving around town with her parents, she said she noticed a lot of American flags with holes and rips. “My grandparents and Uncle Matt are retired veterans and so, they have taught me the rules with flags,” Audrina said. “When I asked my friends, they didn’t know the rules and even some adults don’t know them either.” She realized what her project would be: “Bring awareness to my community about our country’s greatest symbol — the American flag.” Audrina did not start

Peoria City Hall plants edible garden The city of Peoria and the Peoria Diamond Club have collaborated to plant an edible garden on the City Hall campus. The community center food bag program, benefitting local families in need, will receive the bounty of the vegetable harvests. The garden consists of two plots located behind the council chambers. Volunteers planted broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, rainbow chard, brussel sprouts, red cabbage and kale. Diamond Club volunteers will care for the garden and harvest the vegetables, the first of which are due to mature in December. For more information on how to donate gardening supplies or become a Peoria Diamond Club volunteer, contact Donna Fernandez, program manager, at 623-773-8710 or email volunteers@peoridiamondclub.org.
