The festival will feature screenings of more than 200 new films Jan. 17-21 at the new Flix Brewhouse, 1 W. Chandler Blvd., in downtown Chandler. The festival will celebrate movies’ ability to bring together filmmakers and participants from around the world. The Chandler International Film Festival has partnered with the City of Chandler to advance diversity in the community. The film festival will feature numerous, back-to-back events where attendees can eat, drink, socialize and walk from screenings to workshops, parties, discussion panels, film expos and other gatherings in downtown Chandler. and directed, called “Like Breathing,” received an Award of Recognition: Public Service Programming/PSA from the Best Shorts Festival. “Like Breathing” examines people’s need for art. “Time’s Up: She Said, He Heard” also won a special mention in the Global Shorts international short film festival. Fagen, who lives in Fox Crossing, worked with her son, Devon Hancock of Tempe, as well as a local crew and actors. She and Hancock also made “L.N. Pane, P.I.” a trailer for Fagen’s first crime fiction novel, “Fade Out.”

“Like Breathing” was also filmed in downtown Chandler, at Sibley’s West: The Chandler and Arizona Gift Shop on South San Marcos Place with a cast of over a dozen people. “L.N. Pane, P.I.” was shot in a private home in Chandler. A fourth Fagen short film, called “Me, Too,” was filmed in a north Phoenix office. “It was fun jumping back into the world of production in which I spent many years after my broadcast reporting days,” Fagen said. “And working with my very talented son, who shot, edited, ran audio, created original music and much more was so gratifying.”

The opening night film will be “Under the Eiffel Tower,” which stars Matt Walsh and Judith Godrèche. “Under the Eiffel Tower” is about a character named Stuart who is going through a mid-life crisis. As he is desperate to find something more in life, he tags along on his best friend’s family vacation to Paris. Then Stuart proposes to his friend’s 24-year-old daughter, Rosalind, as they are standing under the Eiffel Tower. The festival will kick off with a redcarpet ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 17. Feature films, best experimental short films, best horror short films, best Arizona films and a variety of other movies will be shown over the five-day festival.
