rom pink sweets and pink drinks to restaurant staff garbed in pink, restaurants across Scottsdale are offering specials all month for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The specials aim to not only raise awareness for breast cancer, but also to raise money for local nonproits involved in the ight against the disease. “While wearing pink and doing other ‘pink’ things are fun ways to raise awareness, our ultimate goal is to inancially help those ighting cancer,” said Justin Creighton, Arizona Biltmore Golf Club’s head golf professional. The Arizona Biltmore Golf Club’s nonproit of choice is Arizona Assistance in Healthcare, and the Golf Club’s staff will all be wearing pink throughout October. The Adobe Restaurant at Arizona Biltmore also will donate $1 per pink signature drink sold. “Raising awareness and funds to help ight this horrible disease is a total team effort for us at the Arizona Biltmore Golf Club, the Adobe Restaurant and our sister property, the Wigwam Resort,” Creighton said. “By donating to Arizona Assistance in Healthcare, we’re helping our neighbors and associates through a very dificult time.” A portion of Babbo Italian Eatery’s and Spinato’s Pizzeria’s proceeds will go to Phoenix-based nonproit Don’t be a Chump! Check for a Lump! The mission of the emphatically named group is to remind and motivate other
women to perform breast self-exams in hopes of detecting cancer early. “Breast cancer is something that has affected many close to us: family, friends and staff,” said Ken Pollack, CEO and owner of Babbo Italian Eatery. “As a locally owned business, we wanted to partner with Don’t be a Chump! Check for a Lump! and keep the donation dollars local.” One dollar of each Pink Pasta Valducci he sells will be donated to the nonproit, and Pollack hopes Babbo Italian Eatery raises $10,000. Don’t be a Chump! Check for a Lump! was founded by Holly Rose, who was diagnosed with stage II invasive breast cancer at 39. “The majority of funds to support breast cancer support programs all come in the month of October,” Rose said. “Don’t be a Chump! Check for a Lump! relies on funds that come in October to support our programs all year long that provide free mammograms, free wigs and free breast health education.” Rose added that since breast cancer nonproit Susan G. Komen Arizona closed in July 2017 because of dwindling donations and event participation, it’s more crucial than ever to support local breast cancer nonproits that provide free mammograms for women in Arizona. “We are extremely grateful to local restaurants who are giving back to the community and helping us make a difference in the ight against breast cancer in Arizona,” Rose said. “Local restaurants beneiting our nonproit with acts of kindness are helping us to make a difference our breast cancer community.”
Other restaurants in Scottsdale running special fundraising promotions include Thirsty Lion, Twin Peaks and Farm & Craft. The latter’s month-long promotion is called Save Your Melons. “Farm and Craft believes in the promotion of health and wellness,” said Darryl Cuilla, president of Farm & Craft. “With that being our mindset, we feel it’s important to support and bring awareness to breast cancer and this epidemic that affects thousands and thousands of people every year.” Farm & Craft’s nonproit of choice is I’mpact One, a Gilbertbased foundation dedi(Photos courtesy of The Arizona Biltmore Golf Club and The Adobe Restaurant/Special to the Progress) cated to improving the Lauren Stamatis, a server at Adobe Restaurant, with their pink signature drink. quality of life for female $1 of each drink sold will be donated to Arizona Assistance in Healthcare. breast cancer ighters. “Our foundation is 100 percent dependent well as the physical health.” on local supporters to help our breast Farm & Craft will donate a portion of its cancer patients in Arizona,” said Elizabeth proceeds to the nonproit.
