“Peoria is the Place.” That is the new identity initiative now being publicized by the city of Peoria. It was demonstrated at a council meeting in late November, and has now been shown extensively on the city’s home page at peoriaaz.gov. The Office of Communications was tasked with the goal “to capture the spirit of the city in one all-encompassing

Although it was considered routine and was approved as part of the consent agenda at Peoria City Council’s Dec. 4 regular meeting, a $98,836 grant from the Tohono O’odham Nation has the ability to create a significant impact for three organizations. The grant has a history harking back to November 2002, when the voters of Arizona approved Proposition 202. The proposition initiated new gaming compacts between the state of Arizona and Native American communities. The Tohono O’odham Nation is governed by the compact, which contained a provision that requires the Nation to set aside 12 percent of an assessment, wherein it shares a portion of its gaming revenues with the state.
