Halfway Through –And What a Season!

We’ve officially passed the halfway mark of the winter season - and what a ride it’s been! Each week has been filled with unforgettable moments, both on and off the snow, and the energy continues to build.

This week brought another fantastic camp, a lively raffle night, and a growing number of individual participants hitting the slopes. We’re also counting down to our highly anticipated Auction Night on Friday, August 30th — make sure it’s in your calendar!

Kids Plus Camp - A Weekend to Remember

Last weekend, we had the privilege of welcoming an amazing group of kids and their families to our Kids Plus Camp. For many, it was their first-ever experience with snow - and what a way to be introduced!

The camp included three stand-up skiers and

two sit-skiers, all tackling the slopes with incredible enthusiasm. While some faced big challenges, it didn’t take long for them to warm up (or cool down!) to the experience. By the end of each day, they were smiling ear to ear - exhausted but filled with joy and

unforgettable memories.

A heartfelt thank you goes to our dedicated volunteer guides, who supported these families both on and off the snow. We’re also grateful to the fantastic Falls Creek Snowsports adaptive instructor team, especially Jeremy on camp, for their expertise and care. And a big shoutout to the Falls Creek lifties, who continue to go above and beyond to support our participants every day.

businesses - and the snow community for showing up week after week - we’re making real progress. Every dollar raised goes directly toward adaptive equipment, facility upgrades and program costs, helping make the mountain more accessible and inclusive for all.

There are only three raffle nights remaining, so come down, grab some tickets, and be part of the fun - all while supporting a great cause! • Resort Services: New Faces and New Firsts

This week we were fortunate to welcome several visually impaired (VI) children and their families to Falls Creek - and the results were nothing short of inspiring.

Sam made the trip from Hotham with his family for a special day on the snow - their very first time at Falls! The experience was a memorable one for the entire family, and we were thrilled to help make it possible.

Zoe also joined us for the week, and her joy was contagious. Her father even took part in one of our raffle nights - winning a sit-ski experience at auction - and made the most of it on the slopes! These moments are a reminder

of the incredible impact inclusive access to snow sports can have on families. • Auction Night – Friday, August 30

Join us for the highlight of the season — our Auction Night at Powderkeg!

During your day on the slopes, drop by the DWA Hub in Slalom Plaza to grab your raffle tickets and get a preview of what’s up for grabs. That evening, head to Powderkeg for an exciting auction featuring a fantastic lineup of items, generously donated by businesses near and far.

It's the perfect combination of fun, community, and fundraising — don’t miss it! • Learn More Or Get Involved?

I DREAM OF SNOW

…and What Does it Mean?

When I called my business I Dream Of Snow, I wasn’t thinking about dreams or their meaning. I was really thinking about finding a business name that wasn’t already in use and that couldn’t be misinterpreted. At one point I thought about the name Mountain Mama, to which a friend commented that it sounded like I was going to run an alpine brothel. Turns out there are only so many times you can avoid urban slang references to cocaine when using the word snow in your business name, and so I settled on the name I Dream Of Snow.

A customer recently asked me if I do, actually, dream about snow and if I knew the significance of snow in dreams. Funnily enough, I don’t dream about snow that much. They’re more like nightmares where a coach is telling me I’ll never get any better. Any hooo… the question got me thinking what does it mean when you dream about snow.

Dreams, though often enigmatic, hold a variety of potential significances. They can be a way for the brain to process emotions, consolidate memories, and even offer insights into our waking lives. Some theories suggest dreams have symbolic meanings, reflecting

our unconscious desires and fears, while others view them as random brain activity or a form of mental ‘housekeeping.’

Dreaming about snow can symbolise a wide range of meanings, such as a fresh start, emotional coldness, purity, or challenges ahead. The interpretation depends on the specific context of the dream, including whether the snow is clean or dirty, its amount, and your emotional state during the dream.

Why Do You Dream About Snow? The meaning of snow in dreams varies depending on the context, but it generally reflects your current emotional state. Here are some common interpretations of dreaming about

Fresh Starts and Clarity: Dreaming of freshly fallen snow might represent a fresh start, clarity, or a desire for purity in your life. Snow covering everything in white can symbolise a clean slate or a new beginning.

• Confusion and Overwhelm: On the other hand, if you dream of being lost or stuck in a snowstorm, it could indicate feelings of confusion, being overwhelmed, or emotional isolation. The snowstorm may

I DREAM OF SNOW

symbolise life's challenges or your sense of being caught in a difficult situation.

• Personal Associations with Snow: The meaning of snow in dreams often depends on your personal experiences. If you associate snow with joyful childhood memories, dreaming of snow might evoke feelings of nostalgia, happiness, and playfulness. However, if snow reminds you of being stranded or struggling, the dream could reflect current obstacles or emotional challenges you're facing.

Snow is the ultimate symbol of winter and also Christmas in the West. But ironically there’s no reason why snow should be linked to Yuletide as this cold climate phenomenon isn’t even referenced in the Nativity story. In fact, it was the Victorians who created connections between snow and Christmas which are now so all-pervasive that shopping malls in tropical countries are decorated in fake snow throughout December. It’s all because Queen Victoria’s husband Prince Albert came from the colder

climes of Germany where he was used to being surrounded by snow and ice at Christmastime. We have the prince to thank for popularising Christmas trees in the UK, along with stacks of other Christmas traditions.

In literature, those cultural cornerstones A Christmas Carol and Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens give us historically significant descriptions of Christmas in winter. Born in 1812, Dickens experienced six white Christmases in London during the first nine years of his life, which could well explain why snow is so central to his literary works.

And in music, the mix of snow and Christmas is the subject of the most successful song in history, ‘I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas,’ first recorded by Bing Crosby in 1942. The original version has sold at least 30 million copies and the song has also been recorded by a host of other artists – selling over 100 million copies.

Just like dreaming of snow, being chased in your dreams has a meaning to your

waking life. For more, take a look at what being chased in your dream means, or what dreaming about running late means.

Ultimately, the significance of dreams remains a topic of ongoing research and debate. While there is no single, universally accepted explanation for why we dream, the various theories and interpretations offer a rich tapestry of perspectives on the potential meaning and purpose of dreams.

Mount Beauty has proudly claimed the Gold Award for Top Small Tourism Town at the Victorian Tourism Industry Council (VTIC) Awards, held last week in Shepparton as part of the annual VTIC Summit.

Nestled in the heart of the Victorian Alps, Mount Beauty has long been a beloved destination for adventurers and nature lovers alike. This award recognises the town’s exceptional tourism offering, community spirit, and the unforgettable experiences it provides to visitors year-round.

Valley - from alpine hiking and mountain biking to cosy accommodation, vibrant eateries, and locally crafted brews.

The public then had their say, voting for their favourite small tourism town. The overwhelming support for Mount Beauty came from all corners - locals, visitors, and long-time lovers of the region - and was instrumental in securing the top honour.

Alpine Shire Mayor, Cr Sarah Nicholas, said the entire community should be proud of the recognition as everyone contributes to make Mount Beauty and surrounds so wonderful.

“It's no secret to us that Mount Beauty is truly a special place for locals and visitors alike, and now the whole of Victoria knows it too!," she said.

"This award is a testament to the incredible people who make the Upper Kiewa Valley so special, from our hardworking tourism operators to the visitors who return year after year. Thank you to everyone who voted and

helped showcase the magic of Mount Beauty to the rest of Victoria.”

The Top Small Tourist Town is for communities with a population between 1,500 and 5,000 and Mount Beauty stood out among strong contenders including Port Fairy (Silver), Portarlington (Bronze), and fellow finalists Camperdown, Heathcote, Paynesville, and Rutherglen.

Council extends its heartfelt thanks to all who contributed to the submission and to everyone who cast a vote. This win is a celebration of community, collaboration, and the natural beauty that makes Mount Beauty a true gem of regional Victoria.

Mount Beauty will now be in the running for Australia's Top Small Tourism Town Award at the national awards held in Canberra in September.

A Great Program

What an incredible few weeks it’s been!

Over 200 kids participated in our School Holiday programs this year, and they were nothing short of amazing. Through freezing rain, snow, and icy winds, they showed true perseverance - even when two pairs of gloves weren’t enough to keep the cold out!

It was especially pleasing to see so many returning families back on the mountain, and to welcome new families into our community. Your energy and support help make this club what it is.

We’ve heard from many parents who skied

Freeride, which rewards creativity, control, and technical skill, has seen rapid global expansion in recent years. This new event places Falls Creek on the international freeride map, offering young athletes a platform to develop and showcase their talent in a competitive yet expressive format.
