Committee (NWC) that will lead the party to the impending 2019 general elections. However, not a few party chieftains have expressed fears that the processes leading to the Convention regretfully show that its leadership, like

the Leopard, may have refused to shed its skin. The pre-crisis allegations of impunity, arising from whimsical breaches of the party’s constitution, rules and guidelines, according to many aspirants, marred the ward and state congresses that produced the convention’s

delegates nation-wide. Discontented aspirants have fingered the scheming for 2019 general election as the source of the alleged manipulations, accusing the interim chairman and some of the party’s governors of plotting to impose a new

Buhari Visits Kano, Grants Amnesty to 500 Prison Inmates Ibrahim Shuaibu in Kano President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday in Kano granted amnesty to 500 prison inmates of the Kano Central Prison situated at Kurmawa. Buhari said the amnesty

was part of the federal government’s effort to decongest prisons in the country, and urged the beneficiaries of the gesture to be of good behaviour and shun anything that would bring them back to the prisons.

The president who was in Kano for a two-day official visit, charged the beneficiaries to make the best use of the opportunity by engaging themselves in any useful venture to enable them become useful members of the society.

Buhari pledged that prisons reforms and decongestion would continue to receive prompt attention from his administration. “I am pleased with this visit and I have learnt a bit more about the conditions of the

prisons and inmates,� Garba Shehu, senior special assitant on media and publicity, said in a statement. “This building in front of us was built since 1910. Rehabilitation of prisoners and training of inmates is

FG Orders Kachikwu to End Fuel Scarcity NNPC moves to bridge supply gap DPR orders depot owners to give priority to Lagos Omololu Ogunmade in Abuja and Ejiofor Alike in Lagos The federal government yesterday in Abuja, denied insinuations that the current fuel scarcity plaguing the country is a ploy to increase the pump price of petrol. The government also ordered the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, to ensure that the scarcity does not exceed this weekend. Making this disclosure while answering questions from journalists at the end of yesterday's weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in the State House, the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, blamed the scarcity on higher demand

for petroleum products in cold regions as a result of winter. According to him, Kachikwu assured the council that there was enough petrol that could serve the country till the end of January, 2018, adding that the council gave the minister a matching order to ensure that the scarcity disappears this weekend. Mohammed also said Kachikwu promised that his team would work assiduously to put paid to the lingering fuel crisis with the assurance to the council that there is nothing to worry about.
