Kachikwu: With OPEC Cut Extension, Nigeria, Libya Have No Fixed Output Figures Says at 1.8mbd output, 2018 budget will leverage oil price increase Kunle Aderinokun in Lagos and Chineme Okafor in Abuja The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, has said the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC)
and non-OPEC allies led by Russia did not give Nigeria and Libya specific figures to cap their oil production when the decision to extend supply cut was taken on Thursday in Vienna. Kachikwu, who spoke with
journalists including THISDAY during the meeting in the Austrian capital, explained that Nigeria and Libya, which had enjoyed exemption from the cap were technically allowed to maintain their status quo. However, with pledges, they
would watch the volumes of oil they will bring to the market in 2018 so as not to disrupt the market rebalancing efforts. OPEC and non-OPEC members had, at their last meeting, agreed to extend the agreement they reached in 2016 to cap the
amount of oil they bring into the market in their efforts to shore up prices and stabilise the market. Both agreed then to cut volumes by as much as 1.8 million barrels per day (mbd) with OPEC members contributing 1.2mbd of that while the
balance would be provided by non-OPEC members. The agreement was thus rolled over at their November 30 meeting. But providing details of its proceeding and outcomes Continued on page 8

Reveal Findings of Chibok Abduction Panel, Shettima Challenges Jonathan Michael Olugbode in Maiduguri Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, has challenged former President Goodluck Jonathan to reveal the findings of the committee he constituted to investigate the abduction of Chibok schoolgirls.
Shettima was reacting to a press release by former President Jonathan’s media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, which hinged the abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls on the poor choices made by him. Eze had in the press release asked Governor Shettima to
tell Nigerians whatever he knew regarding the April 14, 2014 abduction of over 200 schoolgirls by Boko Haram after the terror group’s attack on Government Secondary School, Chibok. A statement signed by Borno State Commissioner of
Education, Hon. Musa Kubo, in Maiduguri on Saturday, said: “Nigerians should ask Jonathan why he concealed report of his own fact-finding committee.” Kubo, who was amongst those interrogated by the Jonathan’s Fact-Finding Committee on Chibok schoolgirls abduc-
tion, said: “Rather than direct spurious allegations against Governor Kashim Shettima on controversies surrounding abduction of Chibok schoolgirls, the media aide should ask his principal, President Goodluck Jonathan, why he deliberately concealed report
of a Presidential Fact-Finding Committee he constituted and inaugurated on Tuesday, 6th of May, 2014 and which submitted report of findings to him on Friday, 20th of June 2014.” Kubo said: “For the purpose Continued on page 8
Buhari to Atiku: Settle Your Issues with US and Stop Clutching at Straws President says he was never banned from any country
Iyobosa Uwugiaren in Abuja There was a strong pushback from the Presidency yesterday on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s allegation that President Muhammadu Buhari was banned from entering the United States, with the president pointedly mocking the former vice president for being unable to visit America for over a decade. In a press statement issued last night in Abuja, the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said Atiku's claim was outlandish and came as a surprise from a former Number Two citizen, who should know the truth. Atiku had alleged in an interview with The Boss Newspaper that Buhari was banned from the U.S. because of reservations about his religious views. “For about 15 years, Buhari could not enter America on account of religious considerations,” Atiku said in an interview. The former vice president was responding to a question on why he had
not visited the U.S. for many years, amid speculations that he might be wanted in that country in connection with fraud-related deals. Though, Atiku had explained that he made attempts to go to the U.S. but was not issued visa on administrative grounds, Adesina insinuated he was merely prevaricating to conceal the truth. The president’s spokesman said in the statement, “At no time was President Buhari, as a private person, ever forbidden from entering any country in the world. Rather, the rest of the world has always held Muhammadu Buhari as a man of sterling qualities, strong on integrity, transparency and accountability. The same testimony is still borne of the Nigerian President by many world leaders today.” Adesina said, “It is curious that former Vice President Abubakar had been asked why he had not visited America for over a decade, something Continued on page 8
