Democratic Party (PDP); and Tony Nwoye, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), along with 34 other candidates who will be contesting in governorship election in the state on November 18. In a statement issued yesterday, the commission also said it has given the nod to 38 domestic and six

NJC Appoints Justice Ayo Salami to Head Monitoring C’ttee on Corruption Cases Tobi Soniyi in Lagos and Alex Enumah in Abuja The National Judicial Council (NJC), under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Walter Onnoghen, has established a Corruption and Financial Crimes Cases Trial Monitoring Committee (COTRIMCO) to monitor judges and courts handling corruption and financial crimes cases in the country. The council also appointed
a former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami as the chairman of the committee. Justice Salami retired under controversial circumstances, following the refusal by former President Goodluck Jonathan to reinstate him after he had been cleared by the NJC over his alleged links to chieftains of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). Nigeria Declares UN Security Council Obsolete, Undemocratic Okechukwu Uwaezuoke with agency report Nigeria has decried the obsolete and old-fashioned composition of the United Nations (UN) Security Council, describing it as undemocratic. The country’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Prof. Tijjani Bande, speaking to newsmen in New York recently, said there was urgent need to reform the body.
The Security Council is the UN’s most powerful organ with the primary responsibility of maintaining international peace and security as well as accepting new members to the UN.
