Despite Osinbajo’s Directive, Petrol Marketers Yet to be Paid $2bn Subsidy Claims Ndubuisi Francis, Omololu Ogunmade,Chineme Okafor in Abuja and Ejiofor Alike in Lagos Petroleum products marketers and depot owners have said that despite the directive by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to the Ministry of Finance to pay the marketers their outstanding
subsidy claims, which they estimated at about $2 billion, none of them was paid as at close of work on Friday. THISDAY had reported that Osinbajo summoned a meeting of the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) and the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association
(DAPPMA) on May 22, which had the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun; Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu; and the Central Bank Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, in attendance. It was gathered that at the end of the meeting, the Acting President was said to have
directed the Finance Ministry to pay the marketers all verified claims so that they could resume importation of petrol. However, a presidential source last night said there was no formal order in the real sense of it. The source who did not want to be named said the marketers would be paid in no
distant time, explaining that the current delay is as a result of shortage of funds. The Executive Secretary of DAPPMA, Mr. Femi Adewole, also confirmed that Osinbajo had given approval for the marketers to be paid all verified claims. He, however, raised the alarm that despite the directive by the
Acting President, the marketers had not yet been paid. He pointed out that the delays in the payment of the marketers’ claims could precipitate crisis in the downstream sector as the banks have not backed down on their threats to seize tank Continued on page 9

Sheriff Balogun in Abeokuta
A former World Court Judge, Prince Bola Ajibola (SAN), yesterday dismissed the growing agitation for secession by some
sections of the country and described the resort to such narratives as both cheap and indolent. On the contrary, Ajibola was of the opinion that the way forward
for the country was to confront, fight and kill corruption, which he said was at the centre of the nation's problems and hindering it from deriving any benefits from its diversity.
Addressing some of the nation’s current concerns in a statement titled: "Confront and defeat corruption, don't balkanize Nigeria," and released to the media in Abeokuta, the Ogun
State capital, Ajibola said the present situation did not require the clamour for secession, but that "we need to rejuvenate our morality and conduct in and out of public office to serve as
good role models for the next generation. "With this level of endemic corruption in the national psyche, Continued on page 9

Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja In a major shift in its political posture since assuming power in May 2015, the All Progressives Congress has resolved to address the issue of restructuring of the federation. THISDAY learnt that this was the highlight of a meeting held on Thursday night at the Imo State Governor's Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, by the leadership of APC and state governors elected on the party's platform. A reliable source in the party said the meeting resolved to inaugurate a technical committee this week, which would comprise the APC leadership as well as some of its governors and National Assembly members, to work out details of the planned restructuring.
