SURPRISED BY HOPE The Perspectives Sunday School Class recently completed a lengthy study on Hope which included a video series by N. T. Wright called, “Surprised by Hope.” The class explored what hope the gospel provides in our present life and for spreading its power to the world around us. The study concluded with a slide show showing class members engaged in activities which provide hope to the world and to our community: going on mission trips, delivering meals, working with seniors, building homes for the homeless in Willis, working in prisons, growing food for Interfaith, tutoring students, and participating in equine therapy, Habitat homes in Conroe, Elder Ride, Craft Circle, blood donation, Adult choir, the Goldenaires choir, and many more. The Perspectives Class meets at 9:30 a.m. each Sunday morning in Jones Library.

We are blessed with an active, growing Senior Adult ministry with all of our various activities, which reach many people and fill many needs. This is possible because we also have so many wonderful volunteers who are willing to lead and to serve in all of the various activities. Next month we will have an opportunity to honor two of the very best volunteers who have given so much of themselves to help make this ministry what it is today. George and Sally Holtin have made the decision to move to Boerne, Texas to be closer to family there and will be leaving in the next few months.

Before they leave we all want to have an opportunity to say “Thanks” for their many years of service. George has been “Mr. Senior Adult” at The Woodlands UMC and Sally has been his best supporter. They have led our Prime Timers monthly luncheon and program, have served in the Goldenaires Choir, have been active in the Friendship Class and have done so much behind the scenes to assure the growth and success of this ministry. When I began as pastor to Senior Adults over five years ago I met with George and immediately knew of his love for the church and his commitment to the Senior Adults. He has been an invaluable coworker and I am grateful for his service and his friendship. I know many of you join me in expressing our affection and gratitude to George and Sally Holtin for their service and friendship. We will have an opportunity to do this at a reception to be held in their honor on Sunday, November 1 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. in Jones Library. Join us as we offer appreciation for all they have done and as we extend best wishes for all the best in their new home. Your friend, Don
