by Rev. Pierce Drake Lead Pastor for Covenant Church at Creekside
It’s hard to put into words the joy I feel as I write this. My name is Pierce Drake, and I have the privilege of serving as the Lead Pastor at Covenant Church at Creekside, a campus of The Woodlands Methodist Church. As we step into the rhythm of summer, I’m filled with awe and gratitude for what God is doing in and through this community.
When my family and I arrived in The Woodlands in 2022, we came with hearts full of prayer, dreams and a deep desire to say “yes” to whatever God would have for us. What we’ve discovered here at Creekside this year is a church that is hungry for the presence of God, rooted in His Word and passionate about people — inside and outside our walls.
At Covenant Church, we often say, “God comes where He is wanted.” This simple truth has become a defining heartbeat of our worship, our teaching and our life together. Week after week, I watch as families gather, friendships form, prayers are lifted, and the Spirit of God moves. Whether it’s welcoming new members, celebrating Holy Communion or seeing children learn about Jesus in vibrant ways, I’m reminded again and again: God is at work here.
One of the most beautiful things about being part of The Woodlands Methodist Church family is knowing that while we serve unique communities, we are united in mission and heart. From our shared commitment to reach people for Jesus, disciple them in faith, and help those in need, the vision we carry to reach people across Montgomery and Harris counties and beyond is strengthened by our connection.
This summer at Covenant Church, we’re journeying through the sermon series Wanted, exploring the ways our longing for God meets His desire to dwell with us. It’s already shaping hearts and deepening lives of prayer and worship. Also this month, I’m honored to be ordained as an Elder in the Global Methodist Church — a moment of sacred commitment and joy that I share with you, my church family.
To those of you who are faithfully praying, serving and supporting the ministry of The Woodlands Methodist Church — at The Woodlands, Woodforest, Montgomery or Creekside — thank you. And if you’ve never been to our campus, we’d love for you to visit. Join us on a Sunday morning. Come early for coffee and stay after to connect. There’s a place for you here.
OUR EVER-PRESENT GOD
by Rev. Chris McLain, Pastor of Caring and Adults 55+ Ministry
While in preparation for my pastor-led study of The Screwtape Letters, I was reminded how often evil makes us feel like no one, anywhere or at any time, has experienced what we are experiencing at this very moment of life. I was reminded that all people — all races, ethnicities and languages — face the same innate struggle: the struggle of the human condition. I was also reminded that while evil can be manifest in our hearts and actions, and demons can be anywhere, neither demons nor Satan himself can be everywhere all at once. The property of being “ever-present” belongs to our God alone.
This reminds me of Acts 1:8, which says, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Therefore, when you and I are tempted by that which is lesser, we do not face it with a lesser power. Instead, we face it with the full power of the Holy Spirit. It’s incredible to think if we are fighting despair, grief, anger, disenchantment, guilt, shame or misery, through God’s work we, as the body of Christ, are literally empowered with God’s authority to be agents of change in our physical world.
God is not done with “His-story” yet, and you are a part of it. You have been given the power of the Holy Spirit to help impact those around you by the proclamation of His good works in your life. So, don’t get complacent! Get proactive and share the good news with everyone you meet this month. No lazy summer days here. Evil is doing its best to keep you apathetic, but the ever-present, omnipotent creator of the universe has something really special planned. Let’s get to work — to the ends of the earth!
Happy 4th of July!

THE WOODLANDS CAMERA CLUB
Monday, July 7 | 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. | Aldersgate Hall
John Tveten’s Texas Moths
Presented by Kathy Adams Clark
We often overlook moths fluttering under porch lights or streetlamps, but these beautiful, diverse insects outnumber butterflies and display just as much beauty and variety.
Join us for a program on the work of John Tveten, a renowned Texas naturalist, author and photographer. From 1978 until his death in 2009, Tveten kept detailed field notes on the birds, butterflies, mammals, reptiles, dragonflies and moths he observed — many of them raised in his own garage. His notes, paired with photographs, were part of his plan to write a book titled Butterflies of the Night.
Come discover the hidden beauty of Texas moths and celebrate the legacy of a passionate naturalist. Check out the Camera Club at thewoodlandscameraclub.org
