The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Watch invites everyone to join together with their neighbors and public safety personnel on Sunday, October 14, 2018, for a night out against crime.
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer. National Night Out creates a sense of community by bringing residents and the public safety agencies that serve The Woodlands Township together under positive circumstances.
Participating in National Night Out since 1990, The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Watch, public safety and the community have won numerous awards for the way we unite and celebrate our police-community partnerships. On Sunday, October 14,
2018, from 3 to 6 p.m., residents are asked to lock their doors, turn on their outside lights and gather with their neighbors. When your neighborhood participates in National Night Out, it accomplishes one of the first steps in crime prevention, “neighbor knowing neighbor.”
Hosting a National Night Out party is just the way to bring your neighbors together!
Take this opportunity to send a message that your neighborhood is united against crime. How you celebrate is up to you. It can be as simple providing popsicles, or as elaborate as playing games and hosting a barbecue. All you need to do is gather your neighbors and participate! Local law enforcement and The Woodlands Fire Department will briefly visit with many of the neighborhoods that register their parties with The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Watch.
Step #1: Party registration is easy!
In 2017, more than 100 public safety personnel visited parties throughout
The Woodlands. To join in on the fun and receive a public safety visit, your neighborhood must complete the registration form. To register, please visit www.thewoodlandstownship-tx. gov/nationalnightout. There you can find the National Night Out Party Guide and frequently asked questions. You can also call The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Watch at 281-210-3800 and ask for the program specialist assigned to your village.
Even if you want to keep it simple and don’t need supplies or a visit from the various public safety agencies, we encourage you to still register your party. It’s important for us to know how many neighborhoods participate in this community-building event. Be an early bird and register your neighborhood party by September 7, 2018, to be eligible for a prize! Once you’ve filled out the party registration form, a program specialist with Neighborhood Watch will contact you to make sure we have all the details needed. The final day to register and to receive a public safety visit is Friday, October 5, 2018.
Step #2: National Night Out
Packet Pickup Day
National Night Out Packet Pickup Day is September 27, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at The Woodlands Township, 2801 Technology Forest Boulevard.
If you wish, The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Watch can provide you with National Night Out party supplies. Pre-registration is helpful and assists us in determining your needs, so your supplies are ready on Packet Pickup Day. Available supplies may include balloons, giveaways, yard signs, party ideas and more!
Hands-Only CPR training (training doesn’t include certificate) will be offered during Packet Pickup Day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Food Drive in partnership with Interfaith of The Woodlands
Nonperishable food items collected at your National Night Out party can be dropped off directly at Interfaith, 4242 Interfaith Way, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., October 15 through October 19, 2018. Please make sure to mention National Night Out when giving your donations to Interfaith. Together, we can make a difference to alleviate hunger in South Montgomery County!
Support our military and collect items at your National Night Out Neighborhood Party. A full list of items needed is available in the Party Guide at www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/ nationalnightout. Donate items at The Woodlands Township, 2801 Technology Forest Boulevard, October 15 to 19, 2018, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Items will be donated to Operation Military Embrace.
This contest is designed to promote neighborhood cooperation, crime prevention awareness and to test a person’s skill and accuracy in identifying a suspect. One party from each village will be drawn from the parties registered to participate. A “burglar,” and a “good guy” will be escorted by a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputy to the party chosen from each village. The neighborhood must work together as a team to help identify the burglar!
Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook, www.facebook.com/ townshipneighborhoodwatch. For the complete guide to National Night Out parties, please visit www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/ nationalnightout

With continued growth in The Woodlands over the past several years, there has been a drastic increase in calls to The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Watch and law enforcement in relation to parking issues. The most common complaint received is that some residents do not utilize their private driveway to park their vehicles on a daily basis. In many of the neighborhoods, vehicles are parked on the street across from a neighbor’s driveway, in front of the cluster mailboxes, too close to an intersection or stop sign, parked facing the wrong direction (into traffic) and parked in a way that prohibits the safe movement of traffic. While some of these parking habits may not be illegal, they can contribute to an unsafe environment in the neighborhood.
Most streets in The Woodlands are wide enough to accommodate a vehicle or vehicles parking on one side of the street, however, the problem occurs when vehicles are parked on both sides of the street, which causes impeded sight lines and makes movement of vehicles slow and difficult. It also can inhibit the safe movement of fire apparatus, ambulances, law enforcement vehicles, school buses, U.S. Mail and utility vehicles. Additionally, it causes an unsafe environment for pedestrians to move freely around their neighborhood, especially small children.
Law enforcement strongly encourages residents to park in their
private driveway, even though in most cases it is not illegal to park on neighborhood streets. All violations of traffic laws will be strictly enforced by law enforcement, and if your vehicle is deemed to be a traffic hazard or violates traffic laws, it can be ticketed or moved at the owner’s expense.
Texas parking laws are listed under the state’s Transportation Code Section 545.301. Law enforcement appreciates your attention to these state laws and just as importantly your consideration of a safe neighborhood. Here is a summary:
SECTION 545.302
a) An operator may not park a vehicle:
– On the roadway side of a vehicle stopped or parked at the edge or curb of a street.
– On a sidewalk.
– In an intersection.
– On a crosswalk.
– Between safety zone and the adjacent curb or within 30 feet on the curb opposite of the safety zone.
– Where an official sign or other Texas parking law prohibits parking.
b) An operator may not, except briefly to pick up or discharge a passenger, park an occupied or unoccupied vehicle:
– In front of a public or private driveway.
– Within 20 feet of a crosswalk.
– Within 15 feet of a fire hydrant.
– Within 30 feet of a flashing signal, stop sign, yield sign, or trafficcontrol signal located at the side of the roadway.
– Where an official sign prohibits standing or other Texas parking law prohibits parking.
SECTION 545.303
Additional Parking Regulations
– A vehicle must be parked parallel to a curb and be parked within 18 inches of the curb.
SECTION 683.002
Abandoned Motor Vehicle : A motor vehicle is abandoned if the motor vehicle:
– Is inoperable, is more than five years old, and has been left unattended on public property more than 48 hours.
– Has remained illegally on public property for more than 48 hours.
– Has remained on private property without consent of the owner or person in charge of the property for more than 48 hours.
– Has been left unattended on the rightof-way of a designated county, state or federal highway more than 48 hours.

TreehouseLocated outside the WJPA building on Lake Robbins Drive, this lawn has not received any irrigation, except for rainwater for the past 11 months.
How is that possible? Good lawn practices, proper (and inexpensive) care of the soil under the turf and only a small bit of organic fertilizer.
The lawn receives about an inch of compost per year. Two compost applications (each a one-half inch deep), made in October and early April, add organic material to the soil, as well as essential microorganisms that assist grass roots to grow and resist disease. Once a year, again in April, a scattering of organic fertilizer is spread on the lawn (about a tablespoon per square foot).
The lawn is mowed weekly ONLY between April and the first of October.
No large patch, take-all patch, sooty mold or insect problems are present. Because of that, no herbicides, fungicides or pesticides are used or needed.
Soil with sufficient organic matter can hold three quarts or more of water per cubic foot. Instead of rolling off the surface of the soil when it rains, good soil absorbs much of it. This transforms the soil under the turf into a passive rainwater catchment, which grass roots can access during dryer periods.
Water stored in the soil, and increased permeability of the soil because of the organic matter, allows grass roots to grow, enhancing the turf’s ability to withstand disease and pests.
For more information about lawn care, please visit the blog at wjpa.org.

Hello again from Alden Bridge! September is usually one of our hottest months, but you can continue to keep cool in our community pools for a little while longer. In our village, Alden Bridge Park pool will be open on weekends through September 9, 2018.
This month’s Alden Bridge Village Association board meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at 7 p.m. at the Township building, 2801 Technology Forest Blvd. Our guest speaker will be Laura Norton from MUD 47, so bring her all your questions about MUDs (Municipal Utility Districts). Residents are encouraged to attend our meetings. Please bring us your questions, your praise and your problems! It’s also a good opportunity to find out just what your village association board does. We have several openings for board members – so come for a visit. Maybe you’ll want to join the board!
The Hart family of Hobbit Glen Place received our July Yard of the Month award, and we awarded the last of these honors for 2018 on September 1, 2018. Thanks to our Yard of the Month sponsors, Chick-fil-A and The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion! At the end of October, we’ll have a competition for the highly coveted Spookiest House in the Village Award (best Halloween decorations). Before you know it, it will
be time to look for Alden Bridge’s Holiday Lighting and Decorating Contest winners.
Coming up next is the Fall Flea Market, and volunteers are needed to pitch in for Alden Bridge at this semiannual event. This giant garage sale (really in a garage at the Pavilion!) gives Woodlands residents a chance to sell our outgrown and redundant treasures, since garage sales are prohibited by Township covenants. All village associations share in the profits if we meet our quota of volunteers, and our share goes directly to our scholarship fund. Please contact info@aldenbridge.org for additional information. The date is October 6, and is an early Saturday morning event, so you have all afternoon for your own pursuits—plus you get first look at all the goodies being offered for sale!
Do you receive our monthly email newsletter? If you aren’t on the distribution list, please send your email address to info@aldenbridge.org so you can be in the know with our latest news. We won’t share your email address; it will be used only to distribute news of Alden Bridge. You can also find us on Facebook and at our website, www.aldenbridge.org
It’s time for the last holiday until Thanksgiving, so have a safe and happy Labor Day weekend and a September to remember!

Usually the Cochran’s Crossing contribution to the September issue of The Woodlands Community Magazine would include some carefully selected photos from the Fourth of July parade. Not this year. Most everyone in Montgomery County and beyond knows the parade was missed due to significant rainfall.
There were some other things that have been missed. Perhaps the event that
had the most impact that has been missed (at least so far) was Harvey. Houston Strong, Montgomery County Strong, The Woodlands and Cochran’s Crossing Strong were the positive sides of Harvey. Perhaps that is the reason over the past year the Cochran’s Crossing Village board has tried to review the way we are organized. The effort is continuing.
Ginger Fray was appointed at the July 24 meeting to fill a vacant area representative vacancy on the Cochran’s Crossing Village Association board. She has already become the chairperson for the Cochran’s Crossing Fall Festival, scheduled for October 21. Although longrange weather forecasts are not that far reaching, odds are the October 21 date will be dry and bright. There definitely will be expanded activities with the renewed energy from volunteers that make the event memorable. This article in the October issue of the Community Magazine will provide additional information on the festival.
Other items that reinforce the enjoyable side of life in The Woodlands include an opportunity for a Cochran’s Crossing Village Association sponsored trip to an Astros game and, the annual Pool Party which is the first major event held each year after schools are closed for the summer.
Cochran’s Crossing Village Association is interested in following the incorporation study led by The Woodlands Township and has interest in other aspects of The Woodlands as well. Overall, it is the representation the Village Association can provide residents and the two-way communications they can provide that is most important to keeping communications open between the village and the Township. It’s significant that the village board has 18 active members. This provides a core for the staffing of events. However, current activities and those planned cannot be carried out without involvement of other resident volunteers.
If there is an event that currently exists, or you would like to see added, come be a volunteer. A good starting point would be to attend a village meeting.
Except for December, the Cochran’s Crossing Village Association meeting is held at 7 p.m. in the Township meeting room on the fourth Tuesday of each month. For more information, please contact Gary Conwell, Cochran’s Crossing Board Secretary, at 281-387-6986 or gconwell1@gmail.com.

Are you prepared in case of an emergency? It takes only 20 minutes of your time. Join the initiative to become trained in Hands-Only CPR. Since February, more than 800 Woodlands residents have been trained. But we need you, too. Residents of College Park have until October 15, 2018, to get trained and put our village in first place for the Village Challenge. Call 281-210-3800 or email your request for a training to neighbor@thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov.
We would like to thank all law enforcement staff for the Lemonade with a Cop initiatives held throughout the summer. Most recently, there were more than 35 residents who attended the Avalon Park event. Thank you to Deputies Jobe, Nichols and Brown and Sgt. Lafonte. Thank you to our village liaison, Peggy Krysiak, for getting these community events scheduled and to all our residents who attended.
Join your neighbors and College Park board members on Sunday, October 14, 2018, for the annual National Night Out celebration in Harper’s Landing Park. Visit our Facebook page for upcoming details. It promises to be an evening of entertainment and fun for your entire family.
Next month, we will host the everpopular annual Halloween Spooktacular
on the afternoon of Saturday, October 27, 2018, in Harper’s Landing Park. This is a favorite event for residents of College Park. It will include games, a Halloween costume contest, inflatable, trackless train and the Trick or Treat Trail.
Got used batteries? Save them. College Park board members will join the Township’s Environmental Services Department for America Recycles and the 3R Bazaar on November 10, 2018, from 8 a.m. until noon. This year it will be at a new location – The Woodlands Farmer’s Market in Grogan’s Mill. This is a village competition. Please show your support for College Park and save your batteries. Then just drop them off the day of the event. For more information, please visit the Township website at www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/ environment.
We know you are out there. You like to be involved and give back to your community. We have a few open seats on our village association board and we invite interested residents of College Park to attend a meeting to learn about the activities we sponsor for College Park residents. Meetings are the third Monday of the month at 6 p.m. in the Township Building on Technology Forest.

After living in several different towns and homes, my wife and I lacked a real connection to what was really happening where we lived. Yes, you can watch the local news or even follow a particular website or Facebook page, but we didn’t feel any real connection. Right after our second child was born, we moved to The Woodlands to be closer to family and to

“live among trees.” We found our new community to be beautiful and everything we thought it would be, but what we didn’t realize was how interesting our neighbors were. Of course, everyone in our village is different and has very differing viewpoints on numerous topics, but the one thing they all have in common is their love of The Woodlands. We noticed everyone cares deeply about our woods, our homes, our clean streets, our trails and our parks.
How do we ensure our community stays incredible? We get involved with the community by interacting with our neighbors, events and the Township. Involvement is about being informed of the issues by attending meetings rather than reading second or third-hand news stories. It is about representing our diverse neighborhood and its varying views. Most importantly, community involvement is about showing the next generation the importance of community service and the positive impact it has on not only those in need, but the ones performing the service.
The existing board members and I encourage each and every one of you to come to meetings, events and service opportunities. People from different backgrounds and parts of the world are all volunteering their time to the village associations, Township and numerous other volunteer organizations in and around The Woodlands.
If any Indian Springs residents are looking to be more informed or get involved, we urge you to join us and attend the Indian Springs Village Association monthly meetings. As a volunteer organization, our board’s sole purpose is to ensure our village is the perfect place to live. Please join us on September 11, 2018, at 7 p.m. at The Town Hall building public meeting space, 2801 Technology Forest Boulevard.
Mark your calendars now for the Taste of the Village to be held on October 27, in the Indian Springs Village Shopping Center from noon to 3 p.m. This annual family event features live entertainment, free food samples, multiple activities
for kids and a fun-filled afternoon. For more information, please contact michael.arendes@indianspringsvillage.com

Summer may finally be winding down but the residents of Panther Creek are preparing for an event-filled fall. Our annual outing to watch the World Champion Astros will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018. Once again, we will begin at the Panther Creek Village shopping area where we will board large custom coaches for a carefree ride to the ballpark gates. Kimber Lewis had done a great job in getting tickets to all who acted early, so hurry before they are all gone. For tickets, please call 281-292-3477.
Does your car use infant seats for children or grandchildren? Be sure you are correctly securing those seats. On Saturday, September 6, 2018, certified technicians will check them for you for free from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Central Fire Station, 9951 Grogan’s Mill Road.
Both Panther Creek Village and the entire Woodlands community have been national leaders in holding National Night Out Neighborhood Parties. Join the fun, meet your neighbors and learn safety tips. This year, we have moved the event to a Sunday afternoon, October 14, 2018, from 3 to 6 p.m. so more families can attend. Check with your Neighborhood Watch person or check with The Woodlands Township. If a party is not already scheduled, you can host one. Details, helpful hints and supplies are available from The Woodlands Township. Check it out at www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/ nationalnightout.
The Fall Flea Market is fast approaching, so visit www.woodlandsfleamarket.org for the date and times of this semi-annual event. Twice a year, buyers, sellers, browsers and bargain hunters flock from near and far to the covered garage between The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion and the Waterway Marriott.
Your community needs you. Whether it’s joining in at events like the Flea Market, National Night Out and the Safety Expo or volunteering to be a neighborhood
watch coordinator, there is a place for you to be part of your “real hometown.” Every resident of Panther Creek is invited to our monthly board meetings to hear reports about public safety, parks, events and much more. It is a great place to find out the best resources for solutions to problems that are of concern to you. Keep your family safe in home pools by following simple tips for pool safety. The best way to improve safety for your family is to ensure that everyone knows how to swim and feels confident in the water.
There is an abundance of home pools in The Woodlands. If you or someone you know has a home pool, here are some tips to keep in mind for family safety!
What can you do to prevent a home tragedy? Most people teach their children the basic rules of the pool: Never swim alone, don’t run or play dangerous games and call 911 in an emergency. But does your family know these important tips?
Babies and toddlers probably cannot open a locked door or gate. But as all parents know, leave one open and they will find it! Teach older kids and teens the importance of shutting and locking gates. Do some research about what might be right for your home. A 4-foot secondary fence with a self-closing, self-latching gate around the pool itself is strongly recommended. Products are available that will even sound an alarm if a pool gate is opened or the water is disturbed.
Never allow anyone to swim alone. Especially during parties, have a designated “water watcher” – an adult whose only responsibility is watching the whole pool and keeping children within sight. Let the water watcher know if your child is a weak swimmer. The water
watcher should not leave the pool side without finding another adult to replace them. For the rest of us, we should always try to stay within arm’s reach of our own young children and non-swimmers.
Keeping the kids’ floats, balls and other toys put away when not in use dramatically reduces the appeal of the pool to a young child. Place a storage bin outside the pool fence (not against the pool fence) and do your best to keep the toys out of sight when not in use.
You might have heard or seen this one in a public service announcement. Why? People who are actively drowning just want to keep their head out of the water; they really do not care how they do it. Teach your children that if someone is in trouble in the water, give them some THING to grab onto – not some ONE. Large white ring buoys and fiberglass reaching poles are perfect for helping in an emergency if they are kept close to the water.
Tragically, the American Red Cross estimates that more than 200 young children drown in backyard swimming pools and hot tubs each year. In The Woodlands area alone there were at least three home and apartment pool drownings in 2017, and more than 50 in Texas. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that for each child that dies from drowning, another five children receive emergency care for nonfatal submersion injuries. Among children under the age of four, more than 50 percent of those drownings occurred in the home pool.
Limiting access to the pool is the best way to prevent non-swimmers from getting hurt. But overall, the better thing to do for your family’s safety when it comes to a home pool is to teach every family member how to swim! Start with basic survival floating and treading water, and build skills from there. If you are interested in more advanced lessons, or just need help with the basics of swimming, the Township offers private swim lessons in all seasons. See the Fall 2018 Action Guide in this issue for more information!

The Woodlands Express Park and Ride has launched a mobile ticketing app, allowing riders to purchase tickets on their smartphones anytime, anywhere and then display them on screen when boarding the bus.
Riders using the app can pay for tickets using a credit or debit card, or via digital payment services such as Masterpass and Apple Pay. Both roundtrip tickets and ticket books, which give riders 20 round-trip tickets, are available. Once purchased, the tickets work offline and are stored in the app, to be displayed on screen as a digital watermark which is read when boarding the bus. The app is available for download from both the Apple App Store and Google Play.
Mosquitoes are an unfortunate fact of life in our forested community.
However, a few simple steps go a long way to ensuring you can enjoy a morning coffee with the birds or dinner on the patio.
Mosquito bites, especially at these times of day, bring with them a greater risk of contracting West Nile virus. For your comfort and safety here are a few Do’s and Don’ts to keep in mind in the fight against mosquitoes. Try some of these simple steps today to enjoy the pleasant fall weather, free from mosquito bites!
DO TAKE PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS.
Wear long, light-colored, loose clothing and use repellent. Oil of lemon eucalyptus and picaridin are better-smelling alternatives to DEET and are the active ingredients shown to be most effective at preventing bites, along with IR3535. All repellents should be applied and removed according to the label.
DO ELIMINATE ALL STANDING WATER AROUND YOUR HOUSE ON A WEEKLY BASIS.
Mosquitoes lay eggs in standing water - a single plant saucer is enough to produce hundreds of mosquitoes! Check plant pots, clogged gutters, water meter boxes, tarps and anything and everything in your yard that holds water after a rain.
DO USE MOSQUITO DUNKS® AND BITS® WHEN STANDING WATER CANNOT BE ELIMINATED.
These non-toxic, biological controls are effective, inexpensive and available at most hardware stores. Put them in meter boxes, French drains, birdbaths and rain barrels –they are safe for birds and water bugs but deadly for mosquito larvae.
DON’T OVERWATER YOUR LAWN.
Lawns here require no more than one inch of water per week to be lush and green. Excess water runs off to the street and into nearby storm drains, creating prime real estate for mosquitoes to breed. A great year-round guide to a healthy lawn is The Woodlands Lawn Care Calendar, which you can find at www.wjpa.org/calendars/ watering-calendar. Watering at the appropriate times will also reduce your water bill!
DON’T USE BACKYARD MOSQUITO MISTING SYSTEMS.
These systems emit broad-spectrum chemicals, killing beneficial insects including mosquito predators. Adult mosquitoes are often not hit with enough chemical to kill them, leading to pesticide resistance. Instead use a hand-held fogger on mosquito resting sites, such as dense shady areas and broadleaf plants. This is much cheaper and more effective at killing adult mosquitoes.
DON’T USE BUG ZAPPERS, ULTRA-SONIC DEVICES, COILS OR CITRONELLA CANDLES.
Simply put, these devices don’t work against mosquitoes. Save your money. Instead, set up an oscillating floor fan to move air horizontally – you’ll enjoy the breeze and the air current is strong enough to keep mosquitoes at a distance.
For more mosquito control tips, please visit www.thewoodlandstownshiptx/mosquitoinfo. To report mosquito concerns, please contact the Township’s Environmental Services Department at 281-210-3800.

Be sure to test for heat on each piece of equipment before your child uses it, and don’t forget to apply sunscreen and drink plenty of water.
The Woodlands is home to nearly 90 unique and innovative playgrounds. Keeping our playgrounds safe and comfortable for use is a top priority for the Township. As the late summer temperatures wear on, we encourage parents and other caregivers to take safety precautions when visiting our community’s parks and playgrounds.
The following are a few tips to ensure a safe and fun experience:
ü Though most of our playgrounds are surrounded by trees, on a hot day, touch the equipment, especially slides, before using. If it’s too hot for your hand; it’s too hot to play on. Come back another day or use one of the community’s pools or spraygrounds. The Township’s five spraygrounds are open for use until October 31, 2018.
ü With the current heat advisories, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Children and parents playing in playgrounds may not realize how hard they are exerting themselves and could
become dehydrated. Drink lots of water and don’t forget the sunscreen.
ü One of the general guidelines for planning a safe play area is to provide age appropriate equipment. Most playgrounds have stickers designating the play area for two to five years old or five to twelve years old. Generally, the smaller units lower to the ground are for the younger pre-school aged user.
ü Do not park your bike, stroller, etc. in the play area. Children love to run, play tag and chase on the playground, typically not paying attention to objects that they could trip and fall on.
ü The best way to know the playground is safe is to play on the equipment with your children. Ride the slides, swing on the swings or be home base for tag; enjoy the playground as much as your children do.
It is important to play safe as our playgrounds are learning laboratories for our children that incorporate elements that excite their senses and help to challenge and develop motor and social skills. If you have any issues at the parks and playgrounds, please call The Woodlands Township Parks and Recreation Department at 281-210-3900.
Soonit will be time to change your lawn watering schedule and embrace fall’s favorite colors: browns, golds, reds and oranges. St. Augustine, our most common turf grass, requires no supplemental water during its dormant months of fall and winter. This makes now a perfect time to consider taking the Water-Wise Village Challenge. When you sign up for the challenge, you are encouraged to turn OFF your automated sprinkler system starting mid-October through mid-April. By doing so, you make a measurable commitment to conserving water resources. And this in turn is reflected as savings on your monthly water bill.
Your participation in the challenge has other benefits.
• Villages receive a point for each new participating household. At the end of the year, the village associations with the most points receive a cash contribution to their scholarship fund, donated by our program sponsors.
• You become a role model in your neighborhood for conserving water.
• You will be rewarded with a healthier lawn. In fact, watering in winter can actually weaken lawns by encouraging shallow root growth and come spring, your lawn will be more susceptible to disease and pests.
Go to www.thewoodlandstownshiptx.gov/waterconservation and join today.
Accept the challenge and stop by the Township’s Environmental Services Department office to pick up your choice of a rain gauge, hose repair kit or hoseend sprayer nozzle (while supplies last) as our thank you.
