Township Initiatives Discussed at Economic Outlook Conference
The
Woodlands Township Chairman of the Board Gordy Bunch recently addressed over 650 business leaders in The Woodlands at the annual Economic Outlook Conference. Chairman Bunch addressed several major initiatives underway at The Woodlands Township, including storm water drainage, future governance, changing revenue streams and cultural arts.
“Our commitment to The Woodlands residents is to look for mitigation funds to help with repeated flooding we’ve seen the last few years,” he said. “We want to make sure our voices are heard and let our state and national leaders know what is happening in Southeast Texas and particularly along Spring Creek.”
Chairman Bunch also discussed the change of revenue streams, particularly online sales and competition in the market. “We need to go after new sources of business like convention and corporate meeting development and leisure travel,” he said. Chairman Bunch addressed cultural arts and that The Woodlands Township is actively looking for partners in a science museum and cultural arts facility. The Woodlands Township owns 13 acres of land on Grogan’s Mill Road and Lake Robbins Drive as a possible site for these facilities.
Finally, Chairman Bunch saluted residents, his fellow directors and Township staff in “making The Woodlands the most incredible place to live.” Chairman Bunch’s full presentation from the conference is online at www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/AboutTheWoodlands.

Make Every Day EARTH DAY
Resolve to make every day Earth Day by implementing small changes into your daily life that can help to protect the environment!
Margaret Mead once said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” When we think about protecting our environment, there are myriad ways that each person can contribute. Our collective, seemingly small, choices can make a huge difference over time for our environment and our world.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), a series of small changes in communities can have a tremendous positive impact for the planet. Some of these changes include:
• Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth, which can save eight gallons of water per day. That’s 2,920 gallons per year per person!
• Recycling one ton of paper (200,000 sheets), which would save enough energy to power the average American home for six months, 7,000 gallons of water, 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to one metric ton of carbon.
• If every home in America replaced just one incandescent light bulb with an Energy Star qualified CFL, it would save enough energy to light more than 3,000,000 homes for a year.
Let’s celebrate our success as a community. In 2017, The Woodlands Township residents diverted 15,411 tons from the landfill, equivalent to conserving 4,112,974 gallons of gas, reducing 36,552 metric tons of CO2 and removing the annual emissions from 7,827 cars. Additionally, 82 percent of residents recycle at home.
There is one area where we can improve as a community. The average contamination rate of our curbside recycling was 21.4 percent, higher than the 18.3 percent national average (Burns & McDonnell, 2017). We can do better – consider refreshing your knowledge of the items that belong in the recycling cart by looking at the pictures on the top of the yellow lid of the recycling cart. When in doubt, throw it out!
In the spirit of Earth Day, resolve to be green by doing ONE thing!
• Bring your own reusable container for takeout leftovers.
• Skip the straw: 500 million straws are used daily in America and can’t be recycled.
• Take plastic bags and film (case wrap, bread bags, etc.) to your local grocery store for recycling.
• Reuse glass containers for storage; recycling is good, but reusing is better.
• Stop idling in the drive-thru lane, turn off your car, or better yet, park and go inside.
• Wash clothes in cold water.
• Purchase and plant native nectar plants for pollinators.
• Compost leaves and food waste.
• Eat local, seasonal fruits and vegetables.
• Remove chemicals from your kitchen and try cleaning with vinegar.
The opportunities are endless, and we can each make a difference in our own way.
If you would like more information about how to be green in the spirit of Earth Day, please contact The Woodlands Township Environmental Services Department at 281-210-3800, or visit our blog at www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/ environment, and tell us how you are making a difference!

SPRING LAWN CARE
By Bob Dailey, WJPA
It’sbeen a long, wet, relatively cold winter in The Woodlands, with three snowfalls. Now, our yards are greening up, flowers are blooming, insects are buzzing and we are all attacked by the same debilitating disorder – spring fever.
As we walk out shoeless on our lawns, blades of St. Augustine tickling our toes, we might want to consider some chores which can extend the life of our lawn and add to its emerald presence.
ST. AUGUSTINE GRASS prefers a pH between 5.0 and 7.0. This acidic range allows grass roots to extract phosphorus from the soil. Having your soil tested is a great way to know the acidity or alkalinity of the soil. You can pick up a soil test bag and form at the County Extension Service in Conroe or at The Woodlands Joint Powers Agency (WJPA) office in The Woodlands. If your soil is too acidic, you can add lime. If the soil is too alkaline, you can add soil sulfur to make it sweeter.
COMPOST AND AERATING
Any time of the year is okay, but midApril is the optimum time. Spread about ½ inch of compost across your entire
lawn. If you’d like, you can water it down with a hose, but that’s not necessary. Aerating allows the compost to enter deeper into the soil.
RESODDING. Late April and early May are the best times to resod warm season grass.
FERTILIZE your lawn in late April. Try to use a slow release, organic fertilizer.
BEGIN MOWING as soon as your grass needs it. However, remember that any plant needs its green leaves to photosynthesize sunlight. Cutting it too short will weaken turf grass plants. Instead, set your mower to the highest height or make sure you cut only a third of the blade.
WARM SEASON GRASSES
St. Augustine, Zoysia and Bermuda need an inch or less of water per week to have a healthy root system. More than that is damaging to the plant. Since the Defined Irrigation Schedule* is in effect for all MUDs within the WJPA service area, you could set your controller to put ½ inch on your lawn for each of the two days you can water.
ADD A RAIN SENSOR TO YOUR IRRIGATION CONTROLLER. If it rains, the rain sensor will communicate with your controller and adjust the amount of irrigation. (WJPA offers 50 percent rebates up to $150 for purchase and installation costs.)
INSTALL A SMART CONTROLLER. Smart controllers take in information from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and area et stations and readjust your system to match the weather.
USE THE CYCLE AND SOAK METHOD. If it takes 20 minutes to put ½ inch of water on your lawn, much of that water will be wasted. Instead, run each zone twice for 10 minutes, or even three times for about seven minutes. The first run will wet the surface of the soil. The second run (and third if you choose) will allow the water to soak into the ground through capillary action.
Enjoy your beautiful spring lawn !

How Much Does It Cost?
The Woodlands residents can call the Township to rent any of the swimming pools, after hours, for a small rental fee. Fees are tiered according to the size of the facility and the number of lifeguard staff needed to keep your party safe.
TIER 1 – Most village pools are $275 for two hours. Those facilities include Alden Bridge, Bear Branch*, Creekwood, Falconwing, Harper’s Landing, Lakeside, Ridgewood, Sawmill, Shadowbend and Windvale
TIER 2 – Larger village pools are $350 for two hours. Those facilities include Cranebrook, Forestgate and Wendtwoods.
TIER 3 – Rob Fleming Aquatic Center is $950 for two hours.
In keeping with other Township programs, all facilities are $150-200 more per rental for non-residents ($475 for Tier 1; $500 for Tier 2; and $1,150 for Rob Fleming).
All prices listed are for two-hour blocks, but three-hour blocks are available (add 50 percent to the total cost for a third hour). All pool rules apply during after-hours events.
When Are the Pools Available?

The village pools are available for the two hours immediately following closing at night, but Rob Fleming takes

Pools are not available on the in-service training day (closed day) each week, or early mornings, without special permission being given by the Lifeguard Coordinator. Special requests are always considered, but we must monitor our ability to deliver a safe, quality, enjoyable party to you and your guests.

Save Water Easily with Low-Flow Aerators
By Teri MacArthur
Did you know that homeowners pay for water three times—once when we purchase it from a utility, once when we heat it and once when we send it out as wastewater? If you want a quick and easy way to use less and pay less, consider investing $20 and 20 minutes of time to install low-flow faucet aerators inside your home.
Many homes already have low-flow aerators; just look for the metal ring where the water comes out of the faucet. Check the writing on the side. If it says 1.5 GPM (gallons per minute) or less, it is low-flow and you’re already saving water and money. If it doesn’t, let’s do the math to see how much you can save by replacing it.
According to The Woodlands Joint Powers Agency (WJPA), the average household in The Woodlands uses about 60,000 gallons indoors each year; 16 percent of that (9,600 gallons) flows through our kitchen and bathroom faucets. By replacing older 2.2 gallon (GPM) aerators with low-flow ones, you can save more than 30 percent of that faucet water. That’s 3,000 gallons a year! And you won’t experience a difference in water pressure.
Faucet aerators are inexpensive and easy to install. Your local hardware store will have many options. Most cost less than $3 each and twist on and off by hand or with the help of some pliers.
Would you like a low-flow aerator for free? Stop by The Woodlands Township Parks, Recreation Environmental Services building and ask for one. We are located at 8203 Millennium Forest Drive and open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more water-saving tips, please visit www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/ environment or call 281-210-3800.

Alden Bridge
We had a busy March in Alden Bridge, and we want to thank everyone who volunteered or visited with us at The Woodlands Marathon Cheer Challenge and our Spring Festival. We appreciate your help and participation. We couldn’t have these activities without you!
The April meeting of our village association board will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at 7 p.m. at the Township building, 2801 Technology Forest Blvd. Our guest speaker will be Chris Nunes, Director of the Parks and Recreation Department. Chris will provide an update on what’s going on in his area, so bring your questions and any concerns. Four new Area Reps were elected to our board recently, so come by and meet them –welcome to Valerie Baker, Joan O’Connor, Stephanie Ruediger and Carolyn Weaver. Please join us for the meeting!
March 24, 2018, was the deadline for submitting scholarship applications, and these will be judged very soon so we can announce our 2018 winners. We always have a difficult time selecting the winners because all of the young people who submit applications are so deserving. The scholarship recipients will be honored at a reception prior to the May board meeting, so save the date for May 8, 2018, and join us at 6:30 p.m. at the Township building to congratulate them.
We earn money for our scholarship program by providing volunteers for activities like the Flea Market, GreenUp and the marathon’s Cheer Challenge. Other very important sources of scholarship funds are the businesses that participate in our sponsor program in exchange for promotional benefits. If you have a business in Alden Bridge (or elsewhere) and would like to contribute to our scholarship fund, please email info@aldenbridge.org. We’ll be happy to tell you all about the opportunities.
The Alden Bridge Yard of the Month program is gearing up to begin again,

and our first award will be made on May 1, 2018. Each month we solicit residents’ nominations for the best front yard in our village, so please look around and send us the address of a yard that you believe fits that description. Board members will view these, vote a winner and the winner will receive prizes. Send your nominations to info@aldenbridge.org no later than Sunday evening, April 22, 2018. And there’s no rule against nominating your own yard!
If you need us, we’re easy to reach. Just email info@aldenbridge.org, or comment on our Facebook page. The page and our website, www.aldenbridge.org, can keep you updated on the latest news from Alden Bridge. Also, if you send your email address to info@aldenbridge.org, we’ll add you to the list to receive our monthly email newsletter. Have a great month!

Cochran’s Crossing
One of the priorities of the Cochran’s Crossing village association is support for education. In January, the village association was able to provide approximately $3,000 for 62 teachers in Powell, Galatas and David elementary schools for student projects not funded by the school district. Some were proposed by individual teachers and some were combined. This month we will be reviewing applicants and selecting scholarship winners at The Woodlands and College Park High Schools.
We welcome the newly-elected members of the village association board for 2018-2019: Thomas Chumbley, Gary Conwell, Tricia Danto, Serafin “Sef” Farias, Beverly Fennessy, Jim Goldmeyer, Jennifer Graff, Todd Graff, Doug Grijalva, J.C. Harville, Cynthia Kessinger, Phong Le, Zachary T. “Zack” Lowe, Sarah Przybyla, Stephen Perry, Michael Ricciardi, Stuart Schroeder and Lori Riley. Some are new and some have an extensive length of service on the board.
If you know a board member, give them a call to thank them for stepping up to help serve the village association and The Woodlands. And let them know any community priorities you believe should be addressed.
As in past years, Cochran’s Crossing had a strong showing at the Earth Day GreenUp. Although residents of Cochran’s Crossing assisted with this event in various locations and responsibilities, the village association was specifically assigned to Shadowbend Park, which served as a registration and supply distribution center.
One of the first efforts of the new board will be the annual Welcome to Summer Pool Party during the first part of June. This has been strategically placed on the calendar after school is out for the summer and prior to the start of many vacations and summer activities. It will be held at Shadowbend Park. Steve Perry, who is the association’s representative to Parks and Recreation, reported during a briefing on the construction at Bear

Our Annual Sundae in the Park at Tapestry Park is scheduled for April 15, 2018, from 2 to 4 p.m. Grogan’s Forest residents are encouraged to come out and meet the College Park board members and your neighbors while enjoying an ice cream sundae.
May 19, 2018, is the Annual Poolooza! This includes free entry to the Harper’s Landing pool, games, refreshments and fun for the entire family.
College-bound high school seniors who reside in any of the College Park neighborhoods (Harper’s Landing, Grogan’s Forest and Windsor Hills) are welcome to apply for one of the college scholarships. We are especially looking for students who exemplify volunteerism by contributing to the community through service. The application deadline is this month. Check our website or check with your school counselor.
Looking for a way to get involved, meet neighbors and have fun? Volunteer to be a Woodlands Watch coordinator. This community organization is overseen by the Township Neighborhood Watch. Learn how to reach out to/with neighbors to keep your neighborhood safe. Remember that our law enforcement counts on citizens like us to report suspicious activity when we see it. Creekside Park
Greetings, Creekside Park Village residents! Your village association board has been busy for the past couple of months hosting many great events in Creekside Park.
In case you missed it, we recently hosted our free Annual Winter Festival & Chili Cook Off on January 20, 2018. This main event for our village was held at Rob Fleming Park. Despite the threat of rain, we had more than 550 residents in attendance. Residents enjoyed refreshments and many activities, such as the snow hill, bounce houses, balloon art, face painting and an obstacle course. This year’s event brought eight teams to compete in our Chili Cook Off Contest. Residents voted and the winners were:
First Place - Chili Marsala Fusion; Second Place - Fire in the Hole; Third Place - Kickin Cougars.
This event would not be possible without the sponsorship from our great local businesses. Please take time to visit these establishments and thank them for their commitment to the community: H-E-B-Creekside Park, Lonestar College-Creekside Park, Children’s Lighthouse, The Woodlands Development Company, Woodforest National Bank, The Refuge Steakhouse & Bourbon Bar, State Farm, F45 Training, Shannon Fine Jewelry, The Strong Firm, Crust Pizza-Creekside Park, Corporate Incentives and The UPS Store.
In addition to sponsors, an event like this takes the dedication of our volunteers, so thank you to all our residents and groups who came out to volunteer!

Our community has endured some rough times this past year and we have become stronger because of it. Harvey had a major impact on all us. The Hayek family, Timarron residents who flooded twice, has taken the experience and shared it from a child’s perspective. Landon Hayek, a fourth grader, along with his mom, Jenn, and dad, Ken, has written a children’s book describing the Harvey experience from his perspective. Landon and his family shared the book at our monthly meeting in February. Landon read the book to all in attendance. What an inspiration for our community, to take a tragedy and turn it into something good for others. You can purchase the book on Amazon, www.amazon.com/They-Called-HimHarvey-Hurricane/dp/1979530998.
A portion of the proceeds from the book will go to disaster relief for the community.
Look for more information and happenings in Creekside Park Village on our Facebook Page or on our website at www.creeksideparkvillage.com. We look forward to seeing you at our monthly meetings held the first Tuesday of every month, except when noted, at the new Recreation Center at Rob Fleming Park.

Grogan’s Mill
The Grogan’s Mill board thanks Virginia Dellinger and Jane Georges for their many years of distinguished service to the village association and the community as a whole. The village
association recently recognized Virginia with a tree and a plaque in honor of her 20-plus years of service. The board also thanks Pat Moritz for her fine service to the village association.
Grogan’s Mill is pleased to welcome three new board members: Alana Ashley, Curt Hammock and Emily Hoppel.
Since moving in 1999 to The Woodlands and Grogan’s Mill, Alana has developed a passion for community service. She is currently serving her fourth term as a member of the Residential Design and Review Committee, in addition to serving several causes in Montgomery County as a volunteer. She recently received an award from the Township Board as The Woodlands Outstanding Volunteer of the Year.
Curt has been married 40 years and has two grown children and four grandchildren. His family has lived in High Oaks for 18 years. Curt is a Vietnam veteran and a retired small business owner, whose company sold aftermarket automotive chemicals and equipment. His wife, Elaine, is a retired interior designer.
Emily has lived in Grogan’s Mill since 2013, and in the greater Houston area since 2000. Professionally, she works in global trade compliance for a premier chemical company in The Woodlands. Emily received her U.S. Customs Broker License in 2018. She is a Michigan State University graduate with a B.S. in Geography.
Grogan’s Mill is proud to recognize Marie and Randy Brannen with a Community Contributor Award. The Brannens have adopted four wonderful children from China, helping all of them obtain the health and medical treatment that was otherwise not available. Their love and dedication sets a fine example
for other families in The Woodlands. The village association is pleased to make a $1,000 donation to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in the Brannens’ name.
The village association concluded its 2018 Planning Retreat in March, setting a budget for the fiscal year and assigning directors to different committees and positions. More information from the planning meeting will be published next month.
Now that warm weather has returned, there are more fresh vegetables and other goodies at The Woodlands Farmer’s Market, Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. Grab a friend and shop our many vendors. Bring your own bags to save on plastic. Check out our website at www.grogansmill.org/fmabout or look us up on Facebook at www.facebook. com/GrogansMillVillageAssociation. On either site, you can sign up for our weekly email blast. Profits from Farmer’s Market vendor fees are returned to the community through various philanthropic contributions, school donations, scholarships and community programs.

Going on vacation? Vacation Watch is a free service that allows law enforcement patrol deputies to check the security of a residence while the homeowner is out of town. Here are a few tips for keeping your home safe when you’re away!
• Do not announce your vacation plans on social media.
• Arrange with a neighbor to pick up newspapers and mail daily (do not stop all deliveries). Try to maintain the appearance of your normal routine.
• Set automatic timers for lights and /or radio.
• Lock all doors and windows.
• While traveling, use discreet luggage tags that shield your name and address from casual observation.

Spring Cleaning Tip
Is the appearance of your home diminished by algae and mildew?
Suggestions for removing algae and mildew from your home:
• A solution of 10 parts water to one part common bleach (strength of mixture can be increased for removal of heavy growth). Be sure to wet foundation plantings first and rinse everything in clean water when done to protect plants from the bleach. Wear gloves and be careful not to come in contact with bleach. Please be aware that high concentrations of bleach may discolor your paint.
• Wipe or scrub with detergent and water.
• There are a number of cleaning products and suggestions for removing these substances from the exterior of the home that can be found and sold at your local home improvement store.
Prevention is always best!
Periodic cleaning with a power washer containing WATER ONLY may help prevent the problem altogether.
Remember: Mildew removal may reveal the need to repaint your home. If so, be sure to take the appropriate actions.

Is there a dog in your neighborhood that barks at all hours of the day and night? Is there a cat that is destroying a neighbor’s garden? If there is such a pet in your neighborhood, inform the pet’s owner of the offense. He or she may not be aware that the offending animal is his or hers. And, on the other hand, if your neighbor should approach you to say that your dog’s barking is affecting others, at least consider the possibility
that it could be true. The next step is to consider a constructive solution to the dilemma.
Last but not least, please pick up after your pet. Pet waste bags are easily purchased and used. Plastic newspaper and grocery bags can also be used to pick up after your pet and then placed in the trash. Always be mindful that leashes are required once the animal leaves your property.
Don’t let your pet spoil the natural beauty of The Woodlands for someone else. Take every opportunity to be a responsible pet owner. It shows pride in your community as well as respect for your neighbors and love for your pet.

SAFETY TIPS
FOR PUBLIC POOLS
Ensure your family’s safety at public pools and waterparks with these tips from The Woodlands Township Aquatics team.
The Township has always prioritized safety, cleanliness and a fun, family-oriented atmosphere at our swimming pools. But residents of The Woodlands do not only swim near home. So, what can you do to protect your family while you are visiting a pool in another area?
Focus on these three areas of concern to make your next aquatic outing a success! The following tips are adapted in part from those provided by the American Red Cross.
Water Clarity and Quality
• Expect the pool to be clean, clear, odorless and sanitized –and report any problems.
• Never swim in a pool if you cannot see the bottom. This includes problems related to cloudy water, overcrowding or bad lighting.
Dedicated Supervision
• No lifeguards? A water watcher (adult supervisor) should be:
– Dedicated to this task alone
– Out of the water
– Attentive
– Aware of all the exits, water depths and blind spots within the pool
– Ready for response at all times
• When on surveillance duty, lifeguards should be:
– In designated, usually elevated, stations
– Positioned strategically to cover all areas
– Attentive and focused, actively scanning the area
– Free from distractions such as loud music, cell phones or other duties
– Easily identifiable
Injury Prevention Strategies
• Expect to see rules, signs and warnings clearly posted –and expect staff to enforce them.
• Take the time to read the rules with your children before they get in the water.
• When it comes to safety, only trust U.S. Coast Guard-Approved floatation devices.
• Come prepared!
– Have you had a basic water safety discussion with your children?
– Do you know your children’s level of ability and comfort in the water?
– Is someone in your family CPR trained?
– Do you know the address of the facility or where to find it quickly?
Lastly, the best and most important thing you can do at any pool is to actively watch your own children. Stay within an arm’s reach of non-swimmers, and keep swimming children in your field of vision at all times. As a parent, only you know their facial expressions and body language when they are feeling timid, worried, scared, over-confident or tired. Only you know how well they can really swim, and how to recognize if they’re having fun!

One of the best plants for butterflies, according to the Xerces Society, is lanceleaf coreopsis (coreopsis lanceolata). It thrives in high heat, humidity and drought, making it a perfect choice for our climate in The Woodlands. The National Garden Bureau has designated 2018, “The Year of the Coreopsis.” While more than 38 species of this plant are found in North America, one of the most common in Texas is the lanceleaf coreopsis.
Growing in small evergreen clumps in early spring, bright yellow flowers appear from April through June. These flowers are recognizable by their trademark scallopededge petals. If left undisturbed, this plant can spread into conspicuous yellow floral colonies containing masses of flowers. With the plant name meaning “ever cheerful,” it is obvious that lanceleaf coreopsis brightens the landscape wherever it is growing.
YOUR LANDSCAPE Brighten

WITH LANCELEAF COREOPSIS (COREOPSIS LANCEOLATE)
This perennial Texas native wildflower will thrive in full sun to partial shade, requiring low to medium amounts of water. Lanceleaf coreopsis is relatively free of both insect and disease problems. The upright yellow flowers attract many pollinators including butterflies, honey bees and native bees. An important nectar source for butterflies and honey bees, this plant is also an excellent source of pollen for Texas native bees. Open woodlands, prairie, pastures and meadows provide the native habitat for lanceleaf coreopsis. When incorporating this striking wildflower into the home landscape, provide well-drained soil with little organic matter. Too much organic matter or addition of fertilizer can cause long stems with droopy flower heads. Lanceleaf coreopsis tolerates many types of soils including sandy, gravelly and clay.
FIND FRIENDS AND FUN AT
While it is a low-maintenance plant, mulching can assist with controlling weeds and conserving moisture. Occasional deadheading (snipping off spent flowers) can extend the bloom season and will increase flower production well into summer. Lanceleaf coreopsis provides a bright spot in rock gardens and mixed planting beds as well as thriving in container plantings. At maturity, lanceleaf coreopsis can spread up to two feet and may reach a height of slightly more than two feet.
Easily grown from seed, lanceleaf coreopsis is a common component of native wildflower seed mixes prepared for East Texas. Lanceleaf coreopsis is readily available from native seed distributors while plant starts may be purchased at local nurseries specializing in Texas native plants.

convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about a potential for abuse of medications.”
A DEA news release from Washington on November 7, 2017, noted “…National Prescription Drug Take Back Day events continue to remove ever-higher amounts of opioids and other medicines from the nation’s homes, where they could be stolen and abused by family members and visitors, including children and teens.” When you are doing your spring cleaning, don’t forget to check your medicine cabinets for unwanted medications and take them to our free drop-off location.
This year, the national event will fall on the same day as Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Texas. Before heading out,
be sure to visit their website for race course and traffic information at www. ironman.com/triathlon/events/americas/ ironman/texas#/ or check their traffic signs prior to the race for a number to call for assistance getting around.
