ELEVEN pups in the third Fernando Bale litter, registered by Woodside breeder, Jennifer Gill, from the well bred bitch, Suzie (April 2014 Barcia Bale x Size It Up), whose dam is by Elite State x Size ‘Em Up (Shape Shifter x Queen Size). Her record shows she only raced four times, for two wins and one placing, winning twice over 400 metres at Dubbo (22.79) at her first two starts before injury struck. She has seven named offspring on file from a January 2017 litter, by My Bro Fabio.

Hay Fergus litter VINEYARD breeders, the Hall Syndicate has a nice litter of ten pups on the list this week, by beautifully bred, under-rated stud prospect, Hay Fergus (March 2013 Brett Lee x Daydream). The four dogs and six bitches are from the beautifully bred, Irish born bitch, Captain Jess* (March 2012 Droopys Scholari x Express Spirit), whose dam is by Westmead Hawk* x Express Smasher (Top Honcho x Airport Express), and worth recalling Top Honcho is by Australian born sire, Head Honcho x Rainbow High*. She has one previous litter on file, with five dogs and two bitches, whelped in June 2017, by Droopys Marco*. Plenty to like about these well bred pups and I would suggest that with six bitches there should be plenty of interest from prospective breeders.

Talking Breeding – New South Wales She has a long list of winners on file from her 15 named offspring in her first three litters, whelped in October 2013, by Brett Lee, August 2014, by Cosmic Rumble and November 2016, by Dyna Double One.

NSW Whelping Report

Three Fernando Bale litters THREE litters on the NSW list this week by Fernando Bale (March 2013 Kelsos Fusileer* x Chloe Allen). East Gresford breeder, Charmaine Fernando Bale Field has the first of the three litters, which has five dogs and two bitches, from the well bred, lightly raced bitch, Lika Jay Jay (December 2012 Superman x Jamati Jamie), whose dam is by Black Enforcer x Mint Solo (Super Mint x Tenthill Doll). She is one of two winners from her lightly raced litter of four named, who only had 30 starts between them, for seven wins and six placings. She was the standout with her 18 starts, producing four wins and four placings, with two wins over 520 metres at Wentworth Park (29.85) and single wins over 515 metres at The Gardens (30.01) and 400 metres at Gosford (22.88). DUBBO breeder, Charmaine Roberts has the second Fernando Bale litter, which has three dogs and four bitches, from the well bred bitch, Becky Keeping (June 2014 Swift Fancy x Naomi Keeping), whose dam is by Surf Lorian x Only Keeping (Brett Lee x Intelligent). She is from a litter of ten named, all winners, who shared 58 race wins. Her record shows she only raced 12 times, for five wins, two over 618 metres at Richmond (35.52), where she also won over 535 metres (31.49), with single wins over 516 metres at Dubbo (29.82) and 530 metres at Coonamble (30.16). Charmaine also has a nice litter of eight pups on the list by Brad Hill Billy (January 2013 Kinloch Brae* x Break Even). The four dogs and four bitches are from Becky Keeping’s litter sister, Jilly Keeping, who raced 37 times, for eleven wins and nine placings. TOONGABBIE breeder, Michael Phillips, has the other Fernando Bale litter, which has four dog pups, from the well bred, successful producer, Go Mini Mouse (July 2009 Collision x Go Mighty Mouse), whose dam is by Hallucinate x Smokey Melody (Farloe Melody* x Frisky Red). She is from a litter of five named, with three of the four who raced sharing 39 race wins. Her record shows she was the main contributor to that success, with her 59 starts, producing 21 wins and 20 placings including a second in the 2011 Group 3 Nowra Classic, the year she won the GOTY at Nowra.

Head Bound Litter OUR final litter for review this week has nine pups by Australian born, international stud success, Head Bound (December 2000 Head Honcho x Sobbing Sal), whose dam is by New Tears x Wee Sal). Head Bound Head Bound was the Irish Stud Dog of the Year in 2011, 2012 and 2013. He is a half brother to Brett Lee, who was also an international stud success, while standing at stud here in Australia. Bargo breeder, Neville Brown has this magnificently bred litter of five dogs and four bitches, who are from the very well bred bitch, the lightly raced, Bella’s Fancy (March 2012 Larkhill Jo* x Sweet Fancy), whose dam is by Collision x Miss Fancy (Barneys Alarm* x Gay’s Fancy. She is from a lightly raced litter of nine named, who had 188 starts in total, for 34 wins, 32 seconds and 29 thirds. Her record shows she only raced four times for a first start win over 535 metres at Richmond (31.39) followed by a second at Wentworth Park, beaten 0.25 lengths (30.42), before she got belted around over 472 metres at Bulli which resulted in a seven month spell, but she was injured on return and retired for breeding. She is already a proven producer, with five of the six named from her first litter, whelped in February 2016 by Where’s Pedro winning. The litter produced, Ella The Weapon (4-0-1-0), then five winners, Joy’s Fancy, Lily The Weapon, Lucy Van Pelt, Max The Weapon and Nangar Jill. This really is a very well bred litter Neville and I would be surprised if these youngsters don’t attract plenty of interest, especially the four bitches, with future breeding in mind. Being based in Ireland, I think Head Bound slipped under the radar or local breeders, but he has done well here from limited opportunities.

Copley’s Corner with Gerard Guthrie his dogs in partnership with footballing mate Matt Lehman. Aloisi credits his relatively newfound passion for the sport with helping him overcome post-traumatic stress disorder after he suffered third degree burns to 25 per cent of his body in a work accident in 2010. “After my accident I was a bit down on life and greyhound racing helped get me through a pretty tough period,” Aloisi explained. “I knew absolutely nothing about greyhounds but my uncle had a couple of dogs and he was always really excited when they were racing so I decided to go out and buy one. That got me started and when you get a taste of it you want better and faster. “This is the best year we’ve had. We’ve never cracked 100 winners before, although about three years ago we got close. About half-way through this year we were getting close to 100 and I said to Matt (Lehman) that we might even get up to 150. “Getting our 150th winner in a heat of the Laurels was a very good place to do it! “But we don’t do it for the fame or the money. But she’s been a revelation in SA, winning nine of her last 14 starts and finishing runner-up in the other five, including to kennelmate Honcho Monelli in the Group 3 Gawler Cup in November, where Aloisi tasted Group glory for the first time. Greyhounds in the home

Merry Christmas and a Happy & Safe New Year 2019 to all the FOGAP members around Australia and to their amazing furry friends From Greyhound Weekly Noel McMahon (Admin) Warmer Weather Finally some warmer weather in Victoria. But irrespective of where you live be mindful when walking your greyhounds that they may take some time to adjust to the heat Greyhounds traditionally don’t like walking in temperatures above 25 degrees so:      

Ditch the coats Keep the walks shorter until they adjust Walk earlier in cooler temperatures Watch for signs of distress Keep your dogs hydrated and Make sure they have water immediately they get home And watch out for snakes in long grass because they are active. - 29 -

Greyhounds in the home FOSTER A GREYHOUND: There are many greyhounds who need a little more assistance to help them settle into pet life They fall into two categories Greyhounds who are transitioning from the track and need help to pass their GAP assessment OR Those dogs who have been a marginal fail at their GAP assessment These dogs are just gorgeous happy greyhounds, the only difference is that need a little more help to transition into pet life The reality is that without foster carers some of these dogs are at risk If you would like to change the life of beautiful dog contact Rebecca and join her team ____________________________________________
