ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Celebrate the 21st anniversary season of Broadway by the Year® with us, in what is bound to be the most exciting season, ever, in the storied history of this critically acclaimed series. lauded across the board by publications such as Variety, Playbill, The Huffington Post, Time Out NY, and, of course, The NY Times — which called the series “Witty, breezily paced... informative...valuable.. the right perspective of lighthearted nostalgia.”

Author/Critic Scott

Siegel created Broadway by the Year® for The Town Hall, which he writes, directs, and hosts. Tony Award Winner, Macarthur Genius, and Broadway by the Year veteran, Bill Irwin refers to Siegel’s “rumpled charm,” with which the series host celebrates the great songs created for the Broadway stage and recounts, with humor, how they came to be.

SCOTT SIEGEL

Scott Siegel is the author of 48 books, and has created more than 400 major concerts that have been performed all over the world. He has written/produced/directed concerts for Michael Feinstein, created scores of nightclub acts that have played at major clubs around the globe, but is, perhaps, best known as the creator/writer/director/host of town Hall’s signature series, Broadway by the Year®, which is currently celebrating its 21st critically acclaimed season. For more information about all of Scott’s shows, please visit Scott’s website at SiegelPresents.com

ROSS PATTERSON

Ross Patterson’s career in music has been as varied and eclectic as the many styles he loves to play. After completing his studies at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Ross spent two years on the road as Musical Director for the Ice Capades before heading to NYC. There, he quickly became one of the most sought after pianists by singers. This led to musical directing, arranging and recording for many of the top cabaret artists in New York. He has been honored twice with the Backstage Bistro Award for outstanding musical direction. For its entire history, Ross has been the arranger, musical director and band leader for the critically acclaimed Broadway by the Year® concert series at The Town Hall.

TONY DANZA

Tony Danza has been one of the world’s most beloved and iconic entertainers for over 40 years. Perhaps best known for his starring roles on two of television’s most cherished and long-running series, Taxi and Who’s The Boss, Tony has also starred in hit films such as Angels in the Outfield, She’s Out of Control, Hollywood Knights, and Don Jon. Well established as a song and dance man, Tony has also starred on Broadway in The Producers, A View from the Bridge, and Honeymoon In Vegas, with the New York Times calling his performance “sly genius,” and a “career high.” He is currently touring with his hit live show, Standards & Stories. Combining timeless music with wit, charm, storytelling, and a dash of soft shoe and ukulele performances, Danza performs a selection of his favorite standards from the Great American Songbook while interweaving stories about his life and personal connection to the music. The hit live show has entertained audiences around the country with The New York Times raving “Tony’s a live wire who tap-dances, plays the ukulele, tells stories and radiates irresistible charm…He exudes the kind of charisma that can’t be taught!”. Tony and his band will be performing their hit show at the world famous Cafe Carlyle in NYC June 14 through June 25, tickets are on sale now.

Tony recently made a special guest appearance on Blue Bloods, and just wrapped a co-starring role in the upcoming 20th Century Fox feature film, Darby Harper Wants You To Know. He also has a much buzzed about Who’s the Boss sequel in the works.

Turnage’s Anna Nicole. A Master Puppeteer and Certified Magician, (member of The International Brotherhood of Magicians), his additional opera appearances include the Glimmerglass, Ravinia, Spoleto, Saito Kinen, and Merida festivals. Recipient of the Olivier, Gramophone, and Diapason D’Or L’Année awards, John made his Broadway debut as Ubaldo Piangi in The Phantom of the Opera at the Majestic Theatre..

MELISSA ERRICO

“The Maria Callas of American musical theater,” as Opera News has called her, referencing both her crystalline voice and dramatic, expressive intensity, Melissa Errico is a Tony Award-nominated Broadway star -- an actress, singer and author who contributes regularly to The New York Times, and her album Out Of The Dark: The Film Noir Project was just released by Warner Music/Ghostlight Records. First known for her starring roles on Broadway, including My Fair Lady, High Society and Les Misérables, her recent album, Sondheim Sublime, was called by The Wall Street Journal “The best all-Sondheim album ever recorded.” Errico’s history with Sondheim began when he selected her to star as Dot in Sunday In The Park With George at The Kennedy Center, and she has since co-starred as Clara in Passion at Classic Stage Company and in the NY City Center Encores! production of the Sondheim/Rodgers musical Do I Hear A Waltz? She was also featured on the PBS Poetry in America episode about Sondheim which featured Melissa singing “Finishing the Hat” and she will be performing at Carnegie Hall this fall in their Sondheim tribute concert. In addition to Sondheim, nothing in her work has been more constant than her association with composer Michel Legrand. Having starred in his sole Broadway show, Amour, she went on to collaborate with him on the iconic album Legrand Affair. After his death in 2019, she was asked to write his eulogy by The New York Times and was then invited to be the sole American performer in the extraordinary two-day memorial to Legrand held in April, 2019 at Paris’ Le Grand Rex Theatre. Warner Music/Ghostlight Records also reissued her symphonic album, which Legrand arranged & conducted, as Legrand Affair (Deluxe Edition).

TOUR THE HISTORIC TOWN HALL

Town Hall has played an integral part in the electrifying cultural fabric of New York City for more than 90 years. A group of Suffragists’ fight for the 19th Amendment led them to build a meeting space to educate people on the important issues of the day. During its construction, the 19th Amendment was passed, and on January 12, 1921 The Town Hall opened its doors and took on a double meaning: as a symbol of the victory sought by its founders, and as a spark for a new, more optimistic climate. In 1921, German composer Richard Strauss performed a series of concerts that cemented the Hall’s reputation as an ideal venue for musical performances. Since, Town Hall has been home to countless musical milestones: The US debuts of Strauss, and Isaac Stern; Marian Anderson’s first New York recital; in 1945, Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker introduced bebop to the world; Bob Dylan’s first major concert in ‘63; and much much more.
