There is no place like The Town Hall. Founded “to promote good citizenship, social justice and general enlightenment through the education and expression of public opinion,” our hall’s world-class acoustics quickly became a calling card, and for over a century, playing The Town Hall stage continues to be a ‘must’ for musicians and singers from all genres and backgrounds.

Whether visiting our storied auditorium for the first time, or returning to experience yet another great night live on our stage, you can feel the vitality in the room. The Town Hall is truly contemporary; purpose-built to open its doors to art, ideas and especially to you.

“Mental health conditions are common, and more treatments are available than ever to help people cope, recover, and thrive. However, stigma can prevent or delay people from seeking care or cause them to discontinue treatment.1
Stigma refers to negative attitudes, beliefs, and stereotypes people may hold towards those who experience mental health conditions.
Although there is more understanding and acceptance today about mental health conditions, many individuals and communities still hold negative attitudes or beliefs about those living with mental health conditions. 2
Structural stigma , involving laws, regulations, and policies that can limit the rights of those with mental health conditions. 3
Public stigma , which include negative attitudes and beliefs from individuals or from larger groups towards people with mental health conditions, or their families or health care providers that care for them. 3
Self-stigma , which comes from within the person with a mental health condition. 3 People living with a mental health condition may believe they are flawed or blame themselves for having the condition. 4
When stigma leads to discrimination, people living with mental health conditions may be treated negatively. 5 For example, people may experience being excluded by others in their social groups due to their mental health conditions. 2 ” (cdc.gov/mental-health/stigma/index.html)

Dr. Lu’s research focuses on youth mental health and healthcare service use, with a goal to achieve health equity for minority and underserved populations. Dr. Lu’s research spans three major areas: adolescent psychiatric epidemiology, mental health anti-stigma intervention, and community engagement for health equity. Dr. Lu serves as PI or Co-PI of multiple internally or externally funded projects, totaling over $2.4 million U.S. dollars. Most recently, as PI, Dr. Lu was awarded R01-level funding support from NIH to develop and test an online mental health anti-stigma and treatment engagement intervention for Chinese American adolescents and parents. Over the past three years, she has also led the development of a school-based mental health anti-stigma intervention for Asian American high school students. Dr. Lu’s research work consistently appears in highly impactful journals, including JAMA Network Open, Journal of Adolescent Health, American Journal of Preventive Medicine, Preventive Medicine, and Psychiatry Research. Evidence of Dr. Lu’s national reputation as a scholar includes invitations to comment on high-profile research results in top journals, such as The Journal of Pediatrics, and invitations to give talks to academic organizations and clinical practitioners. Dr. Lu’s research has also been featured in the popular national and international press, including Time, UPI, NJTV News, and Philadelphia Inquirer

My name is Giorgio Sylvestre, and I am a first-year student at Yale with an interest in exploring the intersection of medicine and law. As a firstgeneration student originally from Haiti, I first became interested in mental health when I found myself overwhelmed with stress during high school. Mental health was not something openly discussed in my home country, nor was it something I had really thought about before.
Over time, I realized that feeling drained and exhausted wasn’t something I should simply ignore. This realization pushed me to learn more about what mental health truly means, which led me to join Bring Change to Mind (BC2M). Through this experience, I became aware of the stigma I held toward mental health and how much I still had to learn. Being part of BC2M throughout high school was incredibly meaningful, I gained a deeper understanding of mental health, strategies for navigating it, and the importance of advocating for others to do the same.
Now, as I transition into college, I am eager to continue this journey of learning, advocacy, and growth in new and meaningful ways. I believe that mental health is something everyone should take seriously- regardless of their major, profession, or background. Whether in college, medicine, law, or any other field, the ability to recognize and address mental health challenges is essential.
The Town Hall was Founded in 1921 by a group of women suffragists from the League for Political Education. Originally conceived as a space for civic dialogue, Town Hall quickly became the place for public discourse and democratic engagement largely through its radio show.
From 1935 to 1956, Town Hall hosted the Peabody Award-winning broadcast America’s Town Meeting of the Air. This groundbreaking program brought together elected officials, activists, and thought leaders, including Eleanor Roosevelt, Langston Hughes, and Mary McLeod Bethune, to debate the most pressing issues of their time. With live panel discussions and questions from both in-person and call-in audiences, the program invited Americans across the country to engage in meaningful conversations about democracy, justice, and progress.
Today, Town Hall proudly revives this legacy through a new series of panel discussions. These sessions feature thinkers, experts, and visionaries who present bold ideas to address some of our nation’s most complex challenges. Each event includes a robust Q&A from the live audience and viewers joining via livestream.
Town Hall’s renewed commitment to civic discourse comes at a time of increasing polarization—fueled by media and social media echo chambers—that threatens to prevent Americans from listening to one another. With a focus on solutions, Civic Discourse features visionaries and thinkers who take on some of the nation’s most complex challenges and offer thought-provoking ideas to address them. Each panel is followed by a lively Q&A with both the in-person audience and those joining via livestream. Attendees are encouraged to listen actively, ask questions, consider diverse perspectives, and leave inspired to learn more and take action.
