Student Government plans election process of President and Vice President of Operations BY SARA DEUIDICIBUS
Contributing Reporter Currently, the Student Government Association is in the beginning phases of electing a new President and Vice President of Operations (VPO). Normally, elections would have happened last fall semester, but due to restructuring efforts and the writing of a new constitution that failed to pass, they were pushed back until now. On March 5, declarations of intent to run for the presidential positions ended. There are two pairs of candidates that are running in this selection — Aleksandar Dimoski and Matthew Brantl are running for President and VPO, respectively as one pair, and well as Liana Meyer and Julieann Murphy who are also running for President and VPO, respectively. At the time of this publication, an ongoing nomination period is taking place in which candidate pairs need to collect signatures from at least 5% of the student body in support of their nomination. The Google Form to show give a signature for candidates can be found here. After this period finishes, a campaigning period and

Student Government pushes for pass/fail grading policies for the third time BY DAVID KREYN
Contributing Reporter Nearly one year since the pandemic hit Stevens, the Student Government Association (SGA) continues to recognize that many students are still facing challenges with online classes. The grading policy for spring 2020 was amended to allow students to take classes pass/fail, and similarly, the grading policy for fall 2020 allowed students to take one class pass/fail. Currently, the SGA believes students would benefit from the con-
Women in STEM then and now BY MICHELLE MEDINA
Contributing Reporter STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) refers to the interdisciplinary skills used to tackle problems in technology and science. Historically speaking from an American perspective, men were predominantly responsible for sharing their findings with members of scientific societies. Women, on the other hand, were discouraged from participating in these
conventions. Moreover, in the past, many American institutions strictly prohibited women from attending. Those who managed to gain an education in STEM were subsequently denied job opportunities. Stevens has its own history of women students – it wasn’t until 1971 that women were allowed to attend. The first class of admitted women included Malena

tinuation of the fall 2020 policy in the current Spring 2021 semester. At the SGA senate meeting on March 7, Eden Luvishis, the newly appointed Academic Affairs Committee Head, said that she would like to push for the continuation of the current pass/ fail policy. Her goal is that students should be able to take one course pass/fail for this semester. In a statement about her goals, Luvishis said, “The majority of the student body is still significantly impacted by a heavily modified learning system. I
will be pushing to maintain our 1 Optional P/F class that we got last semester.” The Double A grading scale came up frequently during previous discussions on new grading policies amidst semesters impacted by COVID-19; however, since this policy has been rejected by the Stevens administration in both spring and fall 2020, the SGA does not plan to propose it this semester. The grading system implemented last semester stipulated that one course could be chosen for pass/ fail that would be counted
towards any undergraduate academic endeavor (major, minor requirement) regardless of whether the class was taken on campus or online. Students had the option to take the course pass/fail by filling out a Google Forms form up to seven days after all grades have been posted. Undergraduate students taking graduate classes for undergraduate credits could use the policy; however, students taking graduate classes for graduate credit could
