New GM, new games, and new prospects for 2018 casinos. She carried her college studies further, to a master's degree in accounting, and now, she's tackling the unchartered waters of training casino industry management in the many levels of regulations. Her visions include a three-year accredited program at the local college in tribal casino management. She's confident in the “awesome management team and long-time employees,” and recognizes management's role in “leadership from the top.” And, she's just as apt to be out in the parking lot picking up trash, as she is for making plans for new gaming machines.

By Christina Reed, The Hired Pen

Running the casino based on tribal needs is an important part of Kriescher's work, and she says, “Tribal councils improve lives.” Sharing the casino's improvements and the decisions on gaming options, Kriescher notes, “a customer focus group” was put together, and the local casino customers will continue (every six months or so) to help guide what visitors would like to see in the future. Kriescher's research continues as well, as she works on new management handbooks, and other plans for the casino's expansion.

Bringing bingo back and other renovations

The Paiute Palace Casino, entering its 15th year in the Eastern Sierra, is expanding its gaming entertainment, restaurant, and visitor experiences with new gaming machines this spring, and a return of the bingo games.

Eastern Sierra, CA—Chances are if you've been a visitor to the Paiute Palace Casino, you've already seen the casino's new general manager, Sherry Denny Kriescher. The very active GM handles many of the same tasks as the staff, and she smiles as she says, “I wouldn't ask them [employees] to do anything I wouldn't do.” And, in the short six months she's been in the Eastern Sierra, she's moving the casino's staff and entertainment to some new and innovative management programs, as well as expanding the customers' experiences at the nearly 15-year-old casino. Kriescher brings more than 30 years of experience in Indian Country gaming, and the Oneida Tribe, of Wisconsin, native describes her work life as beginning as a cashier. Years of time in the industry, she says, peeked her interest in the regulations at the

One of the most popular aspects of the casino, bingo, is coming back, and Kriescher explains, there are plans being put together for a bingo hall / multi-purpose room addition to the casino. This addition could be utilized for banquets, re-formed for bingo, designed for a conference / meeting area, or ...? Kriescher notes bingo brings out the “camaraderie” in visitors, and the casino's player club program is “more fair and equitable,” adds Kriescher. With a “new tiering system,” that started January 1, customers can now move to VIP tiers and these tiers are based on daily overall play, representing both local and visitor's experience. The Eastern Sierra Cookbook, with favorite recipes of the Paiute Palace Casino, is a part of the Team Members Foundation program, and the funds go to help casino employees throughout the year. Sherry Denny Kriescher, the new general manager at the Paiute Palace Casino, comes with 30 years of experience in Indian Country gaming, and she's bringing new management programs to the casino. If you've visited the casino recently, you've probably already seen her working with staff and customers. Tu Ka Novie, the senior menu has been added to, there are reduced prices and specials, including one for the fishing season, fast approaching us. Visitors will immediately know of the big changes the end of March and the beginning of April, as the casino begins replacing gaming machines with new entertainment / games / experiences also. Many visitors probably don't realize, says Kriescher, “we give you safe rides home,” too. “A nature person,” who likes hiking, Kriescher says her outings are going to include meeting all of the City of Bishop's business people, getting to know her neighbors better in the place she says she'd already like to think about retiring in someday...when she slows down.

He completed an epidemiology fellowship (the Epidemic Intelligence Service) with the federal Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and then spent five years working in South Sudan and Kenya with CDC’s Global AIDS Program. Dr. Boo and his wife Heleen returned to Bishop in 2009, rejoining the medical staff at Northern Inyo Hospital where he worked until 2015, when he returned to Toiyabe. He looks forward to re-immersing himself in public health while continuing to practice part-time at Toiyabe. “Dumpster Diver” is the nickname I rightfully earned after hosting the Owens River Annual Clean Up on February 10, 2018, in Bishop, California. The 4th annual event saw the biggest turn out yet as around 70 volunteers showed up on a brilliant February morning to help give the beloved Owens River a bit of tender loving care. The volunteers headed out to various parts of the river to clean up the trash which is unfortunately left behind by others. It’s the sort of event you hope to come back empty handed from but that’s never the case hence the reason for the annual event. 70 good souls assisted to clean up everything from empty cans and spent worm Chris Leonard shows off his massive “dumpster dive” find in the canisters to a toilet and bike left at the silos near Warm annual Owens River cleanup. Photo: courtesy of Jarret Coons Springs Road. You never know what you’re going to find. But, we found a small dumpster’s worth of trash. Luong Tam – owner of Tenkara Tanuki Fishing Rods – hosted a tenkara fishing casting clinic after the clean up. Several volunteers attempted to cast a tenkara rod. One lucky participant won a rod in a raffle. A huge “thank you” goes out to this year’s supporters: California Deer Association, California Waterfowl Association, Caltrout, Ducks Unlimited, Eastern Sierra Fish Reports, Erick Schat’s Bakery, Great Basin Bakery, Golden Trout Lanyards, Inyo Recycling and Waste Management, KIBS Radio, Kittredge Sports Guide Service, KMMT-KHVS Radio, Preferred Septic and Disposal, Rio, Redington, and Sage, Sierra Mountain Trout Guide Service, Silver Lake Resort, Southwest Council, Fly Fishers International, Tenkara Tanuki Fishing Rods, and Trout Unlimited. Next year’s event will be Saturday, February 9, 2019 – the Saturday following the Super Bowl. People interested in making donations for clean up or the raffle can call Chris Leonard at 818.288.3271
