Tucked away along the iconic North Coast 500 route, just 25 minutes north of Inverness, the Estate of Ord is one of the Scottish Highlands’ best-kept secrets for intimate weddings. Steeped in history and surrounded by 28 acres of breathtaking natural beauty, this 17thcentury estate once served as a stately home and now offers couples a truly magical place to say “I do.”
From its stunning walled garden and sprawling grounds to its picturesque outdoor pagoda, perfect for open-air ceremonies, the Estate of Ord blends timeless charm with modern luxury. Guests can sip bubbles at the estate’s very own Prosecco bar, explore the gardens, and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of a venue that’s proudly dog-friendly because no member of the family should be left behind on your big day.
Our recent styled shoot at the estate took place on one of the sunniest days of the year. With not a cloud in sight, photographer Alison White faced a common wedding-day challenge: bright, direct sunlight. But instead of shying away from it, she embraced it using both natural and flash photography to create bold, editorial-style images that could easily grace the pages of a magazine The sunlight played beautifully across the estate’s historic stonework, lush gardens, and the radiant face of our model, Mallory
Mallory wore two statement gowns provided by Margaret at Charlotte Smith Bridal. The first, a clean satin ballgown reminiscent of Demi Lovato’s recent Vogue-featured wedding dress, brought a sense of understated elegance. The second gown, a beaded mermaid silhouette with romantic off-theshoulder detailing, offered drama and glamour. Each look was styled to showcase versatility for modern brides who want tradition with a twist
Hair stylist Natasha brought creative flair to the shoot with three distinctive hairstyles. A whimsical half-updo was adorned with delicate pressed flowers, blending nature and style in a way that felt fresh and ethereal. A loose, bohemian bun matched the more relaxed bridal look, while a textured fishtail side braid paired perfectly with the more structured gown striking the ideal balance between romance and edge
Florist Kay from Flowers in Focus delivered two striking, non-traditional bouquets One was a dried arrangement filled with preserved textures and soft tones, offering something timeless and sustainable The second bouquet embraced the moodiness of a Highland summer, with rich, dark florals and a wild, country meadow feel. Both complemented the dramatic styling and grounded the aesthetic in nature.
Completing the look, makeup artist Andrea showcased her signature style: glowing, natural skin with playful pink tones and faux freckles The result was radiant, youthful, and utterly modern perfect for brides who want to feel confident and themselves on their big day.
This shoot captured more than just beautiful gowns and flowers. It told a story of how tradition, nature, and individuality can blend seamlessly at a venue as unique and unforgettable as the Estate of Ord

Working at the Cannes Film Festival isnt all red carpets and champagne In reality, it can mean early morning starts, sleeping with one eye open while waiting for email confirmations to come through at all hours, and spending your day running up and down the Croisette from one hotel suite to another. If you're booked for a full-day job, it often involves long stretches of waiting around for touch-ups and small makeup tweaks throughout the day. It’s high pressure, unpredictable, and non-stop but for makeup artists, it’s one of the most exciting places to be
and industry professionals. Between appointments and on-the-go touchups, there’s always a chance to exchange ideas, share experiences, and grow your circle which is just as valuable as the work itself
This year, I was lucky to work with some truly amazing clients for press calls, premieres, and private events With the heat, humidity, and long days, product performance was everything and these were the gotos that never let me down.
My Cannes Red Carpet Must-Haves
Whether you’re prepping for a major event or need a flawless finish that lasts, these are my red carpet essentials:
Legology Air-Lite. The secret to glowing, camera-ready limbs. It gives the skin a sleek, hydrated look perfect for shoulders, arms, and legs under the lights
Dior Backstage Face & Body Primer and Foundation. This lightweight, long-wear combo is ideal for warm weather and long days It evens out the complexion without ever feeling heavy, and it photographs beautifully.
Eau Thermale Avène SPF 50. A lightweight, non-greasy sunscreen that layers well under makeup. With so much outdoor activity in Cannes, it’s a crucial step in the prep process.
Set Bag Staples: Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré & La Mer Lip Balm
These two never leave my side. Embryolisse is perfect for prepping all skin types it hydrates and smooths beautifully. La Mer Lip Balm keeps lips soft and nourished, making lipstick application seamless and smooth.
Cannes is intense, inspiring, and always unforgettable I feel incredibly lucky to work in such gorgeous settings and to be able to travel for work it’s something I’ll never take for granted. Being part of these iconic moments, helping people feel their best, and working alongside talented creatives from around the world is what makes this job so special.
Here’s to more unforgettable moments, meaningful connections, and making magic one red carpet at a time

Edinburgh's Old Town is a photographer's dream, brimming with enchanting backdrops perfect for everything from wedding shoots to capturing unforgettable memories I recently ventured into the heart of the city to discover just how easy it is to snag some truly stunning photos
Armed with my trusty hair and makeup kit, alongside the talented Lauren George Photography and our gorgeous model Anisah McDonagh, we hit the streets to show you what's possible.
Here’s a small guide to help you get the best shots in one of the world's most magical cities:
1. Old Town Closes: A Cinematic Start
We kicked off our photoshoot by peeking into one of the Royal Mile's magical little closes We began at Makar's Court, a truly cinematic spot where we captured some delightful pictures. These hidden alleyways offer unique perspectives and a sense of stepping back in time.
2. Victoria Street: Harry Potter Charm & Romantic Vibes. From Makar's Court, we headed down to Victoria Street This quaint, curving street is bursting with Harry Potter vibes, from its quirky shops to its charming cobblestones It radiates the most amazing romantic feel. Just be mindful of tourists and, well, flying cars!
3. The Vennel Viewpoint: Iconic Castle Views Our next stop was The Vennel Viewpoint. This spot offers one of the most incredible views of Edinburgh Castle, framed beautifully. On either side of this storied staircase, you'll find historic little buildings and some lovely greenery, adding to its charm.
4. Ramsay Lane: A Quaint Courtyard (with Caution) From The Vennel, we made our way to Ramsay Lane, a quaint little courtyard While it's picturesque, please be aware that this is a residential area. Be mindful of the residents here, as they may ask you to leave.
5. St. Giles' Cathedral: Medieval Majesty. Finally, we visited the magnificent St. Giles' Cathedral, a structure with over 900 years of history While you can't take pictures inside without paying a fee and potentially getting in the way of others, the exterior alone is simply an amazing example of medieval architecture.
It truly showcases just how ancient Edinburgh actually is.

When planning a wedding, one of the many questions that often arises is whether a bride should pay for her bridesmaids' wedding hair and makeup. It’s a topic that can cause a bit of stress and feel awkward to talk about, but don’t worry! We’re here to help you navigate this decision with ease and confidence.
Traditionally, bridesmaids have been expected to cover the cost of their own hair and makeup. However, wedding traditions have evolved, and what worked for your grandparents might not suit your style or budget. In the UK, there isn’t a hard and fast rule, giving you the flexibility to make a choice that feels right for you, your bridal party and your wedding budget.
First and foremost, consider your budget, every bride wants her special day to be perfect from the venue down to the bridesmaids dresses. If your budget allows, covering the cost of hair and makeup for your bridesmaids can be a lovely gesture of appreciation It ensures everyone looks cohesive and feels pampered, contributing to a stress-free and enjoyable day. However, often if a Bride is paying for all the Bridesmaids dresses, sometimes they may decide to let the Bridesmaids choose if they want to pay for hair and makeup or to do it themselves.
Regardless of your decision, clear communication is essential. If you decide to cover the costs, let your bridesmaids know early on so they can plan accordingly. If your budget doesn’t stretch that far, be honest and upfront. Your bridesmaids will appreciate your transparency and can decide whether they can afford the additional expense
Ultimately, there’s no right or wrong answer to whether a bride should pay for the bridesmaids' wedding hair and makeup It’s all about what works best for you and your budget Remember, your wedding day is a celebration of love and joy, and your bridesmaids are there to support you. Whether you choose to cover the costs or not, the most important thing is that everyone feels happy and appreciated.
