This issue is very special to me not only because it’s September which is traditionally the most important issue in the calendar, but it’s our biggest to date. We’ve increased our number of pages by 50 per cent and have no plans to reduce it back down again. I’m also thrilled about this issue because we have some fantastic news to share. Make sure you read all the way to the end for the big reveal of our brandnew website rumemagazine.com! I’m sure you’re
editor’s letter
going to fall in love with it just as much as we have over at Rume HQ.
As you’ll have seen from the cover, this month we’re taking you to the stunning climes of Monaco, in a bid to prove that there’s more to this wealthy country than fast cars and a fancy casino. Check out our top recommendations for where to eat, stay and play from p4.
Next, we’re hitting the road with Volkswagen; taking the all-new Touareg out for a spin. If you’re in the market for a new set of wheels, I highly recommend heading to p8 for the low-down. With a new season comes plenty of new openings, and there are some this year that I’m particularly looking forward to (more on those from p12). You can also expect a review or two of some top places to visit in Dubai, including Awaken Spa (p16) and Nikkei restaurant CLAY (p17). As always, I hope you enjoy this issue and can't wait to see you over on the new website.

Volkswagen's urban adventurer
Volkswagen's flagship SUV, the Touareg R 2024, blends luxury, power, and practicality. From its smooth city driving to its impressive performance, this powerful hybrid offers a compelling package in the competitive luxury SUV market.
Thenew Volkswagen Touareg R 2024 offers a truly enjoyable driving experience. The car's smoothness on the road is immediately apparent, with responsive acceleration that makes city driving effortless. Whether navigating busy urban streets or cruising on long weekend trips, the Touareg feels perfectly at home. Its spacious boot is particularly noteworthy, making it ideal for those who need luggage space. The Touareg is more than just a practical city car. Volkswagen has packed it with advanced technology and features that elevate it to the top of the luxury SUV segment. As the flagship model in VW's lineup, the Touareg is the most expensive Volkswagen available, and it shows. From its plush interior to its powerful performance, this SUV
is designed to impress. Under the hood, the Touareg R boasts an engine that produces an impressive 456 horsepower, allowing it to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 5.1 seconds. This level of performance is remarkable for such a large SUV, making it a strong contender against rivals like the BMW X5 and Porsche Cayenne. However, despite its power, the Touareg doesn't quite match the agility of its competitors, feeling a bit heavy when cornering. Inside, the Touareg offers a comfortable and luxurious environment. The seats are large and supportive, and the interior's muted blue tones create a serene atmosphere. The 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system is user-friendly, though the touch-sensitive controls on the steering wheel can be tricky to operate.
One of the few drawbacks of the Touareg is its relatively short electric-only range of 31 miles, which falls short of competitors like the X5 and Cayenne. Additionally, its premium price tag might make some buyers consider lower-tier Touareg models, which also offer plug-in hybrid options without the sporty pretensions.
Volkswagen Touareg
2024 is a well-rounded luxury SUV that combines comfort, performance, and practicality. While it may not be the most agile in its class, its smooth ride and advanced features make it a great choice for those looking for a versatile vehicle that excels both when cruising through the city and on longer journeys. volkswagen-dubai.com

When it comes to fusion
cuisine, CLAY Dubai sets itself apart with its
LCinnovative take on Nikkei flavours – a blend of Japanese and Peruvian influences that creates something truly special. Our meal began with an array of maki sushi rolls, each carefully crafted and presented in a unique mini Ain Dubai structure. This playful nod to the neighbouring attraction added a layer of creativity to the dining experience, making it more than just a meal but a visual delight as well. The sushi rolls themselves were fresh, flavourful, and beautifully balanced, showcasing the restaurant’s attention to detail and commitment to the highest quality ingredients.
AThe highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the salmon tiradito. This dish perfectly balanced fresh salmon with a tangy, sweet passionfruit sauce that brought the flavours to life. It was the kind of dish that you'll keep thinking about long after the meal is over.
YThe wagyu sandos swiftly followed, and lived up to their reputation. The tender, juicy wagyu beef, nestled between perfectly toasted bread, offered a rich, flavourful bite that showcased the kitchen’s attention to detail. The wagyu tenderloin, expertly grilled and seasoned, was a fitting main course, demonstrating CLAY’s mastery over both raw and cooked dishes. While the restaurant was quieter during our visit, likely due to the summer season, CLAY is typically known
for its vibrant atmosphere. On previous visits, the space buzzed with energy, enhanced by live DJ sessions and a lively crowd. The incredible service, consistent across all visits, stood out again – attentive yet unobtrusive, ensuring that every aspect of the dining experience was seamless.
CLAY’s location on Bluewaters
Island offers more than just culinary delights; the restaurant's terraces provide stunning views of Ain Dubai and the Marina skyline. The combination of exceptional food, impeccable service, and unique presentation makes CLAY a standout destination for those seeking to explore Nikkei cuisine in Dubai. Whether you're drawn in by the food, the views, or the lively ambience, CLAY delivers on all.
