Our wild adventure in South Africa
ESCAPE A WILD
Unleash your adventurous side at Qwabi Game Reserve, South Africa and discover a natural haven teeming with vibrant wildlife
QWABI PRIVATE GAME RESERVE
The untamed South African wilderness roars to life at Qwabi Game Reserve, where luxury and adventure intertwine in a symphony of wildlife encounters and refined comforts. This extraordinary sanctuary, with its adultsonly retreat, Babohi, transforms the traditional safari experience into something altogether more intimate and spectacular, creating moments of both exhilarating excitement and profound tranquillity. The journey begins with accommodation that redefines bush luxury. Our Leopard room at Babohi features a private deck with a personal plunge pool overlooking the vast savanna, where wildlife roams freely just metres away. The spacious rooms seamlessly blend indoor comfort with the outdoor experience, complete with luxurious bathrooms featuring both indoor rainfall showers and private outdoor options that allow guests to bathe under the African
sky while maintaining complete privacy.
Upon arrival, guests are welcomed with refreshing signature cocktails and cool towels, a muchappreciated gesture after the 2.5 hour journey from Johannesburg airport to this remote paradise. The main lodge area, with its soaring thatched roof and open-sided design, captures the essence of safari architecture while providing panoramic views across the reserve. Decorated with local artwork and handcrafted furniture, the space manages to feel both grand and intimate, with comfortable nooks for reading and quietly observing the wilderness beyond the infinity pool.
As dusk falls, the communal lodge transforms, with strategically placed lanterns creating a warm glow that complements the emerging stars. The inviting firepit becomes the evening's natural gathering point, where guests exchange stories of
the day's sightings while sampling South African wines, the crackling flames providing both warmth and a timeless connection to the land.
It's on the twice-daily game drives, however, where the true magic of Qwabi reveals itself. Expert guide Damian, equal parts wildlife encyclopaedia and standup comedian, transforms each excursion into an immersive education wrapped in entertainment. His uncanny ability to track animals is matched
only by his talent for delivering fascinating facts with impeccable comedic timing. During one of our drives, we were treated to the magnificent spectacle of roaring lions playfully antagonising each other before settling into their characteristic languorous poses. A dramatic territorial dispute between a pair of rhinos unfolded like a scene from a nature documentary, while elsewhere, a baby rhino, barely two weeks old, tentatively followed its
mother through the shrubland, taking its first steps into nature's complex ecosystem. The reserve teems with biodiversity – towering giraffes glide gracefully across the horizon, zebras jolt across the track, cheetahs hide in the grass, hippos submerge in watering holes, and buffalo graze in their herds. Smaller creatures demand equal attention, with vibrant birds painting the sky with flashes of colour, tortoises trudging determinedly along pathways, and even elusive snakes making occasional appearances. These excursions feature strategic pit stops for sundowners, drinks enjoyed while watching
the spectacular African sunset, though one such pause was hastily abandoned when two lionesses were spotted beginning a hunting expedition, prompting a quick retreat to the safety of the vehicle before us humans could join the menu alongside the poor unsuspecting gazelles.
Dining at Babohi is an adventure in itself. The restaurant presents a rotating breakfast menu daily, while dinner showcases local specialties including ostrich and other game meats that might be new to international palates. The culinary highpoint arrives on the final evening with an unforgettable bush dinner, an outdoor banquet
traditional techniques, creating a sensory journey that connects guests to the land's ancient healing traditions. Treatment rooms feature floor-toceiling windows that can be fully opened when weather permits, allowing the gentle bush breeze and natural soundscape to enhance the experience.
The reserve's commitment to conservation becomes evident through thoughtful touches throughout the stay. Water is served in reusable glass bottles, amenities come in biodegradable packaging, and the entire property operates on solar power supplemented by minimal generator use. Morning game drives often include
illuminated by candles and starlight, centred around a traditional South African braai (barbecue).
Long tables adorned with elegant décor, set under the vast canopy of stars, create an atmosphere of primal luxury impossible to replicate in conventional hotel dining rooms. Between wildlife encounters, the reserve's spa offers treatments in rooms strategically positioned to overlook the expansive landscape, allowing for the ultimate relaxation experience accompanied by sweeping views of the bushveld. The signature 'Qwabi Renewal' massage incorporates indigenous plant oils and
brief stops where Damian points out conservation efforts, from anti-poaching measures to habitat restoration projects that support the reserve's remarkable biodiversity. While our beloved elephants remained elusive during this particular visit, the absence of these gentle giants did nothing to diminish the unforgettable experience. Instead, it serves as a perfect excuse for what every visitor inevitably desires after departing Qwabi – a compelling reason to return to this corner of wilderness where luxury accommodation meets untamed Africa in perfect wild harmony.

EXPLORING
CAPE TOWN
The Mother City captivates with a rare equilibrium of dramatic landscapes and cosmopolitan energy. Framed by the imposing Table Mountain on one side and the meeting point of two mighty oceans on the other, Cape Town unfolds as a series of distinct experiences that flow seamlessly into one another. Its unique geography creates microclimates that can deliver four seasons in a single day, while its complex history has fostered a cultural tapestry as diverse as its topography. The city rewards exploration beyond conventional routes. To truly appreciate its multifaceted character, hiring a car is essential, a recommendation that proves its worth along Chapman's Peak Drive, where hairpin turns reveal dramatic coastal vistas at every bend. This engineering marvel, carved into near-vertical cliff faces, connects the Atlantic suburbs with the Cape Peninsula and provides what many consider the world's most scenic coastal drive. Future Found Sanctuary provides the perfect luxury basecamp for Cape Town explorations. Within this exclusive collection, Maison Noir stands as a secluded garden retreat tucked into a lush, forested enclave on the slopes of Table Mountain. The Grand Master Suite delivers an exceptional
experience with its expansive proportions, featuring dramatic high ceilings, custom furniture crafted by local artisans, and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the verdant sanctuary beyond.
The suite's private terrace, enveloped by indigenous flora, creates an intimate connection with Cape Town's extraordinary biodiversity.
The evening communal dining experience at Maison Noir transcends ordinary hotel meals. Hosted in the atmospheric main house with its elegant blend of contemporary design and African influences, dinner unfolds as a social occasion rather than mere sustenance. The long harvest table, illuminated by suspended pendant lights and flickering candles, becomes the stage for a culinary performance as the private chef presents course after course of sophisticated South African cuisine.
No Cape Town sojourn is complete without wine tasting in the nearby valleys. Beau Constantia offers not just exceptional vintages but also some of the region's most spectacular panoramic views, with glass-walled tasting rooms that seem to float above rolling vineyards extending to the distant shoreline. The estate's flagship wines, particularly their Pas de Nom blends, showcase the distinctive terroir of the Constantia Valley,

providing a sensory education alongside visual splendour. Exploring beyond the familiar tourist routes reveals Cape Town's multifaceted character.
The vibrant Bo-Kaap neighbourhood dazzles with its rainbow-coloured houses and rich Cape Malay heritage, while the V&A Waterfront blends historical architecture with contemporary shopping and dining options.
The city's social pulse beats strongest along Kloof Street, where Aruba's vibrant atmosphere and expertly crafted cocktails provide the perfect setting to mingle with locals and fellow travellers alike.
For lunch with unparalleled views, Chinchilla in Camps Bay delivers both culinary excellence and prime positioning overlooking the Atlantic's turquoise waters and the iconic Twelve Apostles mountain range. Their fresh seafood platters, enjoyed on the rooftop terrace with the soundtrack of crashing waves below, epitomise Cape Town's idyllic coastal lifestyle.
Just beyond the city limits, Boulders Bay offers an extraordinary wildlife encounter as hundreds of African penguins waddle
charmingly across pristine sands. This protected colony provides ethical wildlife viewing via elevated boardwalks, allowing visitors to observe these endangered creatures in their natural habitat without disruption. Morning visits typically offer greater penguin activity, particularly during breeding season when fluffy chicks emerge from their burrows.
The juxtaposition of incredible experiences makes Cape Town uniquely captivating, with an itinerary that begins with breakfast in the serene gardens of Future Found sanctuary, followed by an adrenaline-inducing coastal drive, then wine tasting amidst vineyards before returning to the city for sundowners and vibrant nightlife. From the rugged beauty of Table Mountain to the sophisticated elegance of the Constantia wine region, Cape Town's diverse offerings create a harmonious symphony of experiences that resonate long after departure, leaving visitors with an inexplicable longing to return to this corner where two oceans meet beneath an iconic flattopped mountain.

HOUSE RULES
HOW SOHO HOUSE BECAME THE ULTIMATE
MILLENNIAL STATUS SYMBOL
In a world where millennials value experiences over possessions, few brands have captured the zeitgeist quite like Soho House. Since its humble beginnings in 1995 as a private members' club in London, the brand has evolved into a global hospitality empire with more than 40 houses across 17 countries. But how did Soho House transform from a single townhouse into one of the most coveted memberships among creative professionals worldwide? The creation of Soho House wasn't simply about opening another private members' club; it was a calculated response to a gap in the market. When founder Nick Jones opened the first location on London's Greek Street, he envisioned a space where the creative community could gather, network and feel at home away from corporate environments. Central to Soho House's appeal is its carefully calibrated approach to exclusivity. Unlike traditional members' clubs that prioritise wealth and status, Soho House established a different criterion for entry: creative contribution. The application process includes questions about creative pursuits and requires endorsements from current members, creating a sense of community validation rather than monetary qualification. Membership committees comprising existing members from various creative fields review applications,
maintaining the brand's core identity. This subtle shift in how exclusivity is defined has resonated particularly with millennials, who often value cultural capital and creative credibility over financial status. The process transforms rejection from a class barrier into a selective curatorial decision, making acceptance all the more valuable to those who identify themselves as creative professionals.
The distinct "not a suit" policy established by Soho House sends a clear message: this is a space for creatives, not corporate executives. By explicitly excluding certain
professions and embracing others, Soho House positioned itself as the antithesis to traditional gentlemen's clubs, creating a form of reverse exclusivity that appealed to a generation seeking to define themselves against conventional measures of success.
Long before Instagram existed, Soho House understood the importance of aesthetics. Each house is meticulously designed to feel simultaneously luxurious and livedin, with interiors that have become instantly recognisable.
When social media platforms emerged, Soho House was
perfectly positioned to benefit. The photogenic quality of its spaces made them ideal for sharing online, creating organic marketing as members posted images of their experiences. The company's ban on photography in certain areas paradoxically increased the allure, as glimpses shared online became even more valuable, functioning as a form of social currency.
As the millennial generation embraced digital sharing, Soho House's photogenic spaces became backdrops for countless Instagram posts, each serving as an implicit endorsement. This visual distribution enabled the brand to maintain its exclusivity whilst expanding its visibility, creating a perfect tension between accessibility and aspiration. Perhaps Soho House's most brilliant strategy has been its ability to extend beyond physical spaces into a comprehensive lifestyle
brand. The launch of Soho Home in 2016 allowed non-members to purchase furniture, accessories and decor featured in the houses, creating accessible entry points to the brand without diluting the core membership proposition. This ecosystem approach has proven particularly effective with millennials, who often express their identity through brand affiliations across multiple aspects of life.
By offering products and experiences at different price levels, Soho House created what marketing strategists call a "brand ladder", a progression of increasingly exclusive offerings that customers can climb as their means and commitment to the brand increase.
Soho House understood early that its value proposition wasn't just about beautiful spaces but the connections and experiences created within them. Each house hosts a robust calendar of events, from screenings and talks to wellness sessions and networking opportunities, fostering a sense of community that goes beyond the physical amenities. This programming strategy serves multiple purposes: it adds value for existing members, creates FOMO (fear of missing out) among nonmembers and reinforces the creative identity of the brand. By hosting events with cultural relevance and creative substance, Soho House continually validates
its positioning as a home for the creative class whilst providing genuine value beyond access to exclusive spaces.
As Soho House expanded globally, it faced the challenge of maintaining its unique identity while appealing to diverse markets. The solution was a careful balance of consistent brand elements with local adaptations, ensuring that each house feels both distinctively Soho House and authentically local.
From its beginnings as a single London club to its current status as a global lifestyle brand, Soho House has masterfully navigated the tension between exclusivity and expansion. Its success among millennials stems from understanding that traditional status markers were being replaced by new forms of cultural capital centred around creativity, connection and curated experiences.
As Soho House continues to expand, with new locations such as the upcoming Soho Farmhouse Ibiza, its enduring appeal suggests that it has tapped into something more fundamental than trends. By creating spaces that feel simultaneously exclusive and welcoming, aspirational yet accessible, Soho House has not just built a business but defined an aesthetic and lifestyle that captures the essence of contemporary creative culture. sohohouse.com
SEXY FISH
Discover why this London-born Japanese restaurant has become Dubai's most coveted dining reservation
Sexy Fish Dubai has sent ripples through DIFC’s dining scene since opening in late 2024. Already an established celebrity hotspot in London, Miami and Manchester, this Richard Caring-backed restaurant offers theatrical Japanese dining wrapped in striking interiors by Martin Brudnizki, accented by Damien Hirst sculptures.
As a keen follower of Dubai’s business lunch scene, we were eager to sample their weekday Kanso business lunch, priced at AED 158 per person. Daylight at Sexy Fish reveals a dazzling space, blending midcentury modern style with maximalist flair – rich textures, metallic fish-scale surfaces, and iconic mermaid sculptures. Despite the midday timing, the restaurant buzzed with energy, comfortably busy yet suitable for conversation. The terrace offered scenic views, though Dubai’s April heat eventually nudged us indoors.
A live singer added background music, somewhat misplaced at lunch but hinting at the venue's livelier evening scene.
Mains offered mixed results. The chicken katsu sando, while visually appealing, lacked the juicy depth expected from this comfort-food staple. However, the grilled sirloin steak with yuzu truffle dressing was faultless, delivering a perfect medium-rare finish balanced by bright citrus and earthy truffle, accompanied by Japanese rice. An impressive wine-by-the-glass selection allowed sophisticated pairing without committing to a full bottle, starting at a wallet-friendly AED 50 per glass.
The Kanso menu's two starters and a main proved ideal for a working lunch. We began with thoughtful amuse-bouches: a refreshing watermelon and ginger shot paired with edamame hummus and mint oil flatbread, showcasing the kitchen’s inventive twist on Japanese flavours.
The starters impressed. The prawn gyoza with ginger dressing featured expertly pleated dumplings, crisp yet delicate, yet the trio didn't bode well for sharing as a couple. The beef skewers with ancho chili were tender and flavourful, while the black cod croquettes melted softly, packing an intense umami punch. The spicy tuna maki stood out for its bold spice – unusually daring for Dubai’s cautious palate.
We finished with a dessert from the business lunch selection (AED 35 extra), choosing a chocolate caramel delice paired with refreshing mango sorbet – a harmonious balance of indulgence and subtlety. While minor refinements could enhance lunchtime nuances, the restaurant successfully delivers a vibrant experience, solidifying its status as a coveted reservation. For those seeking stylish dining without evening theatrics, the Kanso business lunch provides a taste of this dynamic newcomer. @sexyfishdxb

INSIDE THE AIRPORT TERMINAL THAT MIGHT ACTUALLY MAKE YOU WANT TO MISS YOUR FLIGHT
Arriving at ExecuJet Middle East’s new terminal at Dubai South feels more like checking into a boutique luxury hotel than beginning an aviation journey. The striking 15,000 sqm facility, which opened its doors in early 2025, marks a significant departure from traditional airport experiences and offers a glimpse into the future of bespoke travel for the region’s most discerning jet-setters. As you step inside, the first impression is one of serene sophistication – there’s none of the usual airport bustle here. Instead, the vast space exudes calm, with natural light flooding through strategic architectural openings and illuminating carefully curated design elements. The air is lightly scented, the acoustics perfectly balanced to
Far from the generic luxury that characterises many aviation lounges, this space feels genuinely personal and distinctly regional. Debs has created a contemporary interpretation of traditional Arabian hospitality through her signature ‘craft and luxury’ approach. Hand-carved wooden screens create semi-private niches throughout the space, while plush custom seating invites lingering conversations. Brass inlay details catch the light subtly, and the ceiling features an abstracted geometric pattern that draws inspiration from traditional Islamic design without feeling overtly themed or clichéd. Coffee served here comes in delicate cups on brass trays, alongside dates and small Arabic sweets – a genuine gesture of

hospitality rather than a tokenistic nod to local culture.
The terminal’s most impressive offering might be the exclusive airside suite – the first of its kind in the Middle East. This private haven allows guests to transition directly from
their vehicles to waiting aircraft in complete privacy. The suite features its own lounge area, private bathroom with shower facilities, and a small meeting room – perfect for those last-minute confidential conversations before boarding. Decorated in a palette of muted blues and cool greys, the space feels both timeless and contemporary, with floorto-ceiling windows offering views directly onto the tarmac where your aircraft awaits.
Perhaps the most innovative aspect of the terminal is its private spa and grooming services – a thoughtful addition for a private aviation facility in the region. This isn’t merely a token wellness space but a comprehensive offering designed to refresh and rejuvenate travellers before or after their flights.
During my visit, I experienced an exceptional aromatherapy massage that melted away the stresses of travel. The skilled therapist used a blend of essential oils that left me feeling both relaxed and energised –perfect preparation for my onward journey. The
spa area also features a beautifully designed sauna and a Himalayan salt relaxation room, where the gentle glow of salt crystals creates a deeply calming atmosphere. These wellness options transform what might otherwise be waiting time into a restorative interlude. What truly sets this terminal apart from other private aviation facilities is the holistic journey design. The entire process has been choreographed for efficiency without ever feeling rushed, creating a seamless experience from arrival to departure. In an era where luxury is increasingly defined by experiences rather than mere opulence, ExecuJet Middle East’s new Dubai terminal represents a significant evolution in private aviation. By thoughtfully blending design, technology, wellness, and gastronomy, they’ve created a space that transcends its functional purpose to become a destination in its own right – a fitting gateway to a city that has always prided itself on redefining what’s possible in the realm of luxury travel. execujet.com
