editor's letter

April brings with it a renewed spring energy, and our latest issue is packed with the kind of stories that make you want to plan something spontaneous, book that ticket, or simply see the city with fresh eyes. We begin with one of Dubai’s most glamorous annual traditions: the Dubai World Cup (p.4). Whether you’re drawn to the thundering race track, the impeccable fashion, or the electric atmosphere, this year's edition promises another unforgettable spectacle. For those seeking something off the beaten path, page 8 is where you'll want to head. This feature on Europe's most underrated cities is our ode to springtime travel done differently – a round-up of destinations that quietly charm with authenticity, beauty, and fewer crowds. It’s proof that some of the most rewarding escapes are the ones you hadn’t considered.

My last visit to Dubai World Cup

Roberto’s at Sea (p.11) brings the signature flair of one of Dubai’s top dining names to the open water. Think Champagne at sunset, fine Italian dishes, and personalised service – all from the comfort of a superyacht. It’s setting a new benchmark in maritime luxury.

Our sports coverage this month is equally thrilling. Jeddah Grand Prix (p.12) returns to Saudi Arabia’s dazzling coastal circuit, combining high-octane

action with world-class entertainment. Meanwhile, the Monte-Carlo Masters (p.14) unfolds on the iconic clay courts of the Riviera, a tournament that’s as much about heritage and elegance as it is about forehands and match points. Finally, we end with a moment to savour. Tasca by José Avillez (p.18) serves up a modern take on Portuguese cuisine in a waterfront setting, blending bold flavours with warm hospitality –a perfect pairing for a special date night or a leisurely evening with friends.

Wherever you are this April, we hope this issue meets you with inspiration, curiosity and a spark of something new.

Roberto's at Sea superyacht experience

Roberto's, known for its sophisticated culinary artistry and impeccable service on land, now transforms a superyacht into an unforgettable floating dining experience.

As golden hour approaches, I find myself stepping onto the polished deck of a trideck Sunseeker superyacht docked at Dubai Harbour. The anticipation of experiencing Roberto's at Sea, the long-standing DIFC restaurant's innovative new venture, had been building since I first heard about it. The concept is brilliantly simple yet executed with the finesse one expects from Roberto's – bringing their renowned Italian cuisine to the waters of Dubai. As we departed from the harbour, the attentive staff welcomed us with flutes of crisp Champagne, setting the tone for a remarkable evening at sea.

The superyacht itself, provided through a collaboration with Xclusive Yachts, offers a perfect canvas for this gastronomic journey. Its spacious decks allowed for both intimate conversations and social mingling as we glided past

Dubai's iconic skyline. I chose to begin my experience on the upper deck, where a live saxophonist and DJ created a sophisticated soundtrack against the backdrop of gentle waves. But the middle deck was my main base, offering the happy middle when it comes to ambience. The diverse mix of fellow guests provided engaging conversation throughout the voyage, adding an unexpected layer of warmth to an already exceptional experience. What particularly impressed me was Roberto's ability to maintain the quality of its food despite the challenges of serving at sea. The raw bar proved to be the highlight. Positioned on the upper deck, it

featured a selection of exceptionally fresh seafood – plump oysters, tuna ceviche, and a generous serving of caviar.

For those intrigued by this luxurious floating gastronomy concept, Roberto's Catering and Xclusive Yachts will host their next shared experience on 5 April, priced at AED 1,500 per person. The yacht departs promptly at 4pm from Dubai Harbour, returning at 7pm after a leisurely cruise that showcases

Dubai from its most flattering angle – the water. While Dubai certainly doesn't lack for luxury dining options, Roberto's at Sea offers something genuinely distinctive. It's not merely dinner and drinks on a boat, but rather a carefully orchestrated experience that balances gastronomy, ambience, and setting in perfect harmony. As we returned to harbour, the city now illuminated against the night sky, I found myself quickly contemplating a return journey on their next sailing in April. robertoscatering.ae

CINEMA UNDER THE STARS, MARAYA
QASR AL-FARID

Tasca by José Avillez

Perched on the sixth floor of Mandarin Oriental Jumeira, Tasca by José Avillez brings authentic Portuguese flavours to Dubai's competitive culinary landscape.

The one-Michelin-star restaurant offers a dining experience that balances tradition with innovation against the backdrop of a stunning infinity pool. Our culinary experience begins with Tasca's famed tartare cones – delicate, crisp wafer cones filled with either tuna or wagyu beef tartare. The tuna offers a refreshing, clean flavour profile enhanced with just the right amount of acidity, while the wagyu presents a more indulgent experience, the rich meat complemented by subtle seasoning that allows its quality to shine through.

The Tasca "pica-pau" offers a Portuguese take on the small plate concept, featuring tender beef morsels marinated in a vibrant sauce with pickles and olives. However, it's the bacalhau à Gomes de Sá that truly captures the essence of Portuguese cuisine. This salt cod casserole, a staple in Portugal, is transformed into an elegant dish without losing its soulful character. The layers of

flavour – from the gently salted cod to the sweet onions and potatoes create a harmonious composition that pays homage to Portugal's culinary heritage.

The combination of authentic Portuguese flavours, contemporary presentation, and that spectacular infinity pool setting creates a dining destination that feels both special and genuine.

For those looking to experience the vibrancy of Portuguese cuisine through the lens of one of its most celebrated chefs, Tasca offers a compelling

option. Whether for a romantic evening or a special celebration, this restaurant provides an experience that transcends the typical hotel dining venue, bringing a slice of Lisbon to the shores of Dubai. @tascadubai
