JACQUES MARIE MAGE
Lby heritage brands and mass-market giants, but in recent years, an independent label has emerged to redefine the industry: Jacques Marie Mage (JMM). Known for its bold aesthetics, meticulous craftsmanship, and strictly limited production, JMM has cultivated a cult following among collectors, fashion insiders and Hollywood’s elite.
But how did a niche eyewear brand from Los Angeles become one of the most sought-after names in global luxury?
The answer lies in the vision of its founder, the artistry of its craftsmanship, and a business model that challenges the very foundations of luxury. The story of Jacques Marie Mage begins with Jérôme Mage, a French-born designer whose background in industrial design and deep appreciation for vintage aesthetics set the stage for something revolutionary. Settling in Los Angeles, Mage initially worked in sportswear and accessories design, but his passion for eyewear – particularly bold, statement frames from the 1960s and 70s – drove him to create his own brand in 2014. His philosophy was simple yet disruptive: to craft small-batch eyewear with uncompromising quality, drawing inspiration from historical, artistic, and cinematic influences. From the outset, Mage refused to follow the mass-production model that dominates the
eyewear industry, instead opting for a meticulous, artisanal approach that treats each frame as a collector’s piece. Unlike mainstream eyewear brands, which churn out designs in the thousands, each Jacques Marie Mage frame is part of a highly limited production run, often with only 300-500 pieces worldwide. Every model is numbered, reinforcing its exclusivity and turning eyewear into an investment piece rather than just an accessory. This strategy has created a strong secondary market for JMM frames, much like limited-edition watches or designer handbags. Certain models – particularly those that sell out quickly or have celebrity endorsements – have seen their resale value soar, making them highly coveted among collectors. The appeal lies in their rarity and craftsmanship, ensuring that every purchase is not just a style
statement but also a longterm luxury investment.
JMM’s production process is a study in craftsmanship. Each frame is meticulously handcrafted in Japan, a country known for its precision in eyewearmaking. The materials used are among the finest available, including Japanese acetate, custom titanium components, and hand-finished hinges that ensure longevity and superior fit.
The production process is time-intensive, with over 300 steps involved in creating each frame. From shaping and polishing the acetate to the intricate metal engravings on the temple arms, every detail is executed with an obsessive level of care. This level of craftsmanship is what sets JMM apart in an era where massproduced eyewear dominates the market.
Jacques Marie Mage has become a go-to brand for Hollywood’s elite, with Brad Pitt, Jeff Goldblum, and LeBron James frequently spotted wearing its frames. But JMM’s appeal isn’t just about star power – it’s about a distinctive aesthetic that complements strong personal style.
The brand’s designs are bold, sculptural, and full of character, making them ideal for celebrities who want eyewear that makes a statement. Unlike traditional luxury brands that rely on logo-heavy branding, JMM’s frames stand out purely due to their craftsmanship and design, a testament to
the brand’s exclusivity. JMM is redefining what it means to be a luxury eyewear brand. Traditionally, high-end eyewear has been dominated by conglomerates such as Luxottica, which mass-produce designerlabelled frames for brands like Prada and Gucci. However, a growing number of discerning consumers are shifting away from mass luxury towards niche, independent brands that prioritise craftsmanship and exclusivity.
In an industry often driven by branding rather than artistry, JMM proves that there is still room for craftsmanship and creativity in modern luxury. As the demand for rare, collectible fashion items continues to grow, Jacques Marie Mage stands at the forefront of a new luxury era, one where true exclusivity is defined not by price alone, but by history, artistry, and uncompromising quality. jacquesmariemage.com
ROW ON 45
Chef Jason Atherton's 17-course masterpiece combines global influences with premium European and Japanese ingredients for just 22 guests per evening, delivered with service that creates an unforgettable fine dining experience worthy of a hefty investment
In a city known for luxury and superlatives, standing out in Dubai's competitive fine dining scene requires something truly exceptional. Row on 45 has not only risen to this challenge but soared above it, becoming one of only four two-starred Michelin restaurants. Sitting pretty on the 45th floor of the Grosvenor House in Dubai Marina, this culinary jewel has rapidly transformed from newcomer to gastronomic powerhouse. With two coveted Michelin stars, four Toques from Gault & Millau, and an impressive climb from No. 41 to No. 17 on MENA's 50 Best Restaurants list, chef Jason Atherton's latest revolutionary winter menu demonstrates exactly why Row on 45 deserves its place among Dubai's gastronomic elite.
The experience at this Michelin star Dubai restaurant unfolds like a carefully orchestrated performance. I was immediately struck by the intimacy of the space as our evening began in the Champagne Lounge with elegant appetisers. The anticipation built as we moved to the main dining room, where I found myself among just 22 guests witnessing the culinary theatre from the kitchen.
British chef Jason Atherton, along with his executive chef Daniel Birk, showcase their new seasonal menu, which exhibits a masterful understanding of premium ingredients at their peak.
The 17-course journey begins with a mind-bending otoro, levitating on its glass dish before progressing to even more complex flavour creations.
I was particularly captivated by the Nodoguro, a prized fish from Toyosu market that was dry-aged for four days and grilled over binchotan charcoal. The Red Deer from New Zealand left me equally impressed, paired with crapaudine beetroot and a rich sauce with bitter chocolate notes that lingered pleasantly. With each table positioning diners to enjoy both culinary theatre and Dubai's skyline, Row on 45 creates an atmosphere of refined exclusivity. By the time we reached the finale in the Chef's Library, I was completely immersed in such a sophisticated conclusion.
Head sommelier Lorenzo Abussi's thoughtful wine pairings complement the menu, with each glass enhancing the flavours. What truly elevates the experience is the impeccable service.
Each interaction was polished yet warm, striking that perfect balance between formality and genuine hospitality. A particularly thoughtful touch was receiving personalised chopsticks, creating a keepsake I'll cherish for time to come.
This level of attentive service demonstrates why Row on 45 continues to collect accolades beyond just its culinary achievements.
The attention to detail extends beyond food to the sophisticated interiors, creating a penthouseinspired setting that feels both luxurious and intimate, along with a curated playlist of Brit-Pop and 90s indie anthems.
At AED 1,345 per person (with optional wine pairings at AED 1,045), Row on 45 represents a significant investment. Was it worth it? Absolutely.
I found genuine value in experiencing culinary innovation that places Dubai firmly on the global gastronomic map.
For those seeking exceptional dining experiences or celebrating special occasions, I can confidently say few restaurants in the region deliver such a consistently remarkable dining experience.

Le Relais de l'Entrecote
Paris' most famous steak frites – and their secret sauce – have landed in Dubai. But, can they live up to the original?
The latest addition to Dubai’s French dining scene comes with over 65 years of heritage. Le Relais de L’Entrecôte, the beloved Parisian institution, has opened its doors at ME Dubai, bringing with it a refreshingly simple concept that has captivated diners since back in 1959.
The restaurant’s approach is remarkably straightforward – there’s no menu, just a single question from your server: how would you like your steak cooked? This signature meal begins with a fresh bread and a walnut salad, followed by perfectly cooked sirloin steak draped in the restaurant’s closely guarded secret
sauce, accompanied by golden French fries. At AED 155 per person, the value becomes even more apparent when a complimentary second serving of both steak and fries arrives, complete with additional sauce.
The Dubai outpost, launched in partnership with Addmind Hospitality, maintains the authentic charm of its Parisian counterparts. Wood
lines the walls, while vintage posters and colourful tablecloths create an inviting atmosphere that transports diners to the streets of Saint-Germain. Louis Fresnel, great-grandson of the founder, has ensured every detail stays true to the original vision.
The wine selection features organic varieties from the family’s own Château de Saurs vineyard. These thoughtfully chosen French labels complement the menu perfectly, enhancing the overall dining experience. While the main course maintains its singular
focus, the dessert menu offers variety through classic French patisserie. The chocolate profiteroles prove to be a standout choice – light enough to follow the generous main course while satisfying any sweet cravings. Each dessert maintains the same level of authenticity as the main course, prepared according to traditional recipes. The restaurant doesn’t accept reservations, operating on a first-come, first-served basis. Early arrival is recommended to avoid waiting, particularly during peak dining hours. The no-reservation policy adds to the authentic Parisian bistro experience, where some of the city’s most beloved restaurants follow the same tradition.
