Rotaract Clubs of RI District 3780 Celebrates Halloween Virtually Written by: ADDR / PP Stephen James C. Cachuela Rotaract Club of Quirino-Quezon City

s we are well over the 9th onth of distancing ourselves from other people in line with the prevention of the locally transmitting the Novel Corona Virus Disease 2019 (N-Covid 19), we are yet expected to make do with what we have to accomplish celebrations virtually.

Last November 7, 2020, under the supervision of District Rotaract Chair CP Aya Nicole Corpus, the District Rotaract team of RID 3780 made use of an application where attendees could interact through a game called “Trivia Murder Party”. Interactors, Rotaractors, and even Rotarians are able to participate just by answering general knowledge questions and the person with the highest score at the end of the game, wins.

Participants inside the zoom meeting room and those watching from Facebook also had the chance to win various prizes. 10 lucky attendees won the much coveted, Copper Mask.

The program ended positively, and the participants clearly enjoyed.

More importantly, it’s events like these that promote the innovation and creativity of Rotaractors. Especially during an extremely pressing time that puts all on edge. As humans, the only way to survive is by adapting to change, may it be sudden or gradual.

By finding ways on how to deal with the current pandemic and its health implications, our sanity remains intact and our passion to serve is recharged. Preparing us for a more intricate way of standing by the Rotaract motto of “Fellowship Through Service” as we witness the end of COVID-19.

SCHOOL OF RAC 2020 Written by: Rotaractor Desiree A. Castro Rotaract Club of Midtown QC

he end of the year is coming, and many are excited about it. Before the year ends, the Rotaract Clubs of Rotary International District 3780 has made sure that everyone would learn something new.

The RID 3780 presented the Rotary Academy: School of RAC 2020. The online School of RAC allowed everyone to learn in the comfort of their homes. Despite this difficult time, the Rotaractors had a chance to nurture and improve themselves.

The School of RAC had its 4 Sessions with different topics that added and showed new information to Rotaractors. The Rotaract Club of Quezon City Central hosted Session 1: Career Development held last September 26. The 2nd session, which had the theme "Powerful Presentation," was hosted by the Rotaract Club of Balintawak. It addressed how to make an effective presentation. Discussed by Joseph Brian Ramos LPT, he showed a few tips and tricks to make presentations more engaging and lively. As for “Building Confidence in Presenting,� Melody Nacua was the speaker for the session.

Last November 21, the Rotaract Club of New Manila spearheaded Session 3: Video Editing Tools. The session aimed to enhance the participants' skills on the basics and techniques of editing a video. For the fourth and the last session of the School of RAC, the Rotaract Club of Quirino-Quezon City held hosted the event. In this session, English Grammar and Proofreading was the highlight of the talks.

The things we learned in School of RAC will be part of each Rotaractor's character. It will also serve as a tool that will lead each person to success.

Learning is a continuous process that each should aim. The knowledge and skills gained this year will give us strength and lead to opportunities and purpose in life. Value learning, as learning value you.

he Rotaract Clubs of Rotary International District 3780 have successfully reported during the Midyear Review 2020 entitled "Transform Term Midyear Accomplishments" last December 12, 2020, Saturday via Zoom.

A total of 46 Rotaractors and Rotarians registered for the event, with 16 Rotaract Clubs having reported their Club Profile, History, Accomplishments, and Project Nominees for the Rotaract Awards.

he Pilipinas Rotaract Multi-District Information Organization (MDIO), the Rotary International District 3780 through its Rotary Academy series, and the Rotary Club of West Central organized the Elevate Rotaract Summit for Rotarians in the Philippines last November 25, 2020 via Zoom.

The summit deepened the understanding of Rotarians of Elevate Rotaract policy changes which began with the 2019 Council on Legislation that made Rotaract clubs a membership type of Rotary International (RI).

Following this landmark legislation were subsequent policy changes approved by the RI and Rotary Foundation Board as recommended by an Elevate Rotaract Task Force.

Melchor “Chock� Encabo, a member of the 2019 Elevate Rotaract Task Force and a current member of the RI Rotaract Committee, was the main resource speaker during the summit. He summarized the key policy changes to the following five (5) points.

Expansion of Rotaract Club Sponsorship Options Effective July 1, 2020, Rotaract Clubs can now be sponsored through any of the following options: a) one or more Rotary Club/s (previous policy); b) one or more Rotaract Club/s; c) combination of two or more Rotary and Rotaract Clubs; d) without any sponsor. This is to give Rotaract clubs greater flexibility as to the kind of sponsor relationship that best meets their needs. The expansion of sponsorship options applies to both new and existing Rotaract Clubs.

Removal of Upper Age Limit for Rotaractors Effective July 1, 2020, Rotaract Clubs will now be open to all young adults ages 18 years old and over. A Rotaract Club may, but is not required to, set an age limit in its bylaws. In the previous policy, Rotaractors are forced to leave Rotaract at the age of 31 to encourage them to join a Rotary club.

However, most end up just leaving the family of Rotary as they still do not feel ready to join a Rotary club. Hence, the removal of the upper age limit intends to give Rotaractors the flexibility to decide for themselves when they are ready to leave Rotaract hopefully, for Rotary.

Greater Involvement of Rotaract in The Rotary Foundation (TRF) The Rotaract Club Bylaws was revised to include the Foundation Committee as a standing committee of a Rotaract Club effective July 1, 2020. This committee shall provide training opportunities to Rotaract Club members about TRF and tap them to raise funds for TRF through various fundraising activities. The Trustees of TRF also agreed to allow Rotaract Clubs to be either the international or host sponsor of a global grant, beginning July 1, 2022, provided that the Rotaract Club has previously partnered with a Rotary Club on a global grant. They have also maintained that Rotaractors can still be eligible recipients of global grant scholarships and Rotary Peace Fellowships funded by TRF. The Trustees recognized that many Rotaract clubs are already doing innovative, sustainable service projects that are aligned with Rotary's areas of focus on scale similar to that of global grant -

projects, without any funding assistance from TRF. The Trustees believe that allowing Rotaract clubs to sponsor global grants will give them the opportunity to do even more good in the world. Participating in Foundation programs will also encourage Rotaract clubs to fundraise for the World Fund, which will result in even more resources for their clubs and others around the world.

Appointment of Rotaractors in Rotary District Committees District Governors are strongly encouraged to appoint good standing Rotaractors in every district Rotary committee. This is a call for closer partnership between Rotarians and Rotaractors in shaping the future of the organization especially at the local level.

Rotary International also recognizes the valuable inputs of Rotaractors in especially in developing unique membership experiences and service projects.

Collection of Annual Dues Per Rotaractor to Expand RI Services for Rotaract Rotaractors will begin paying annual dues to RI effective July 1, 2022 at the rate 5 USD for university-based clubs and 8 USD for community-based clubs. The determination of rate was based on the result of a survey conducted to Rotaractors. In return, the 50 USD one-time fee for chartering a new Rotaract club will be eliminated. The dues collected from the Rotaractors will support RI’s initiatives of developing new products and expanding existing services that will deliver greater value to all Rotaractors. Some of which include Rotaractors gaining access to new communications and leadership development resources especially from Toastmasters International as well as provision of online goals setting and club administration tools for Rotaract Clubs.

Chock also shared that RI has established three goals to gauge its success in Elevate Rotaract.

First is to increase the number of Rotaractors reported to Rotary by 100% percent by 2022.

Second is to increase the number of reported Rotaractors who join Rotary Clubs by 20% by 2022. Third is to increase the number of reported Rotaractors to 1 million by 2029.

Chock also updated that RI is currently looking on how to improve the Interact program similarto the status of Rotaract prior to elevation. An Interact Advisory Council will actually be formed for the next Rotary year composed of Interactors and recent Interact alumni to advise RI Board on shaping the future of Interact.

Serving as panelist to the Elevate Rotaract Summit is Nishita Pednakar, Past District Rotaract Representative of Rotary International District 3170 in India and the Rotaract Moderator for the 2021 RI Assembly. She believes that Elevate Rotaract just came in time when Rotarians and Rotaractors needed to work together especially with the COVID-19 pandemic “In India, joint ventures between Rotary Clubs and Rotaract Clubs, especially during this pandemic, created more interaction and unity under one Rotary Family. With the changes brought by Elevate Rotaract, we now have many opportunities for mutual collaboration. When we [Rotaractors and Rotarians] work together, the action of Rotaractors inspires Rotarians while the experience of Rotarians mentors Rotaractors,” said Nishita.

“There are certain areas where Rotaract Clubs are passionate and active but depend financially on Rotary Clubs. If we do not support these Rotaractors, they will lose their members. There are areas where Rotaract Clubs are self-sufficient, and this is where Rotary Clubs can focus more on providing additional professional and leadership development, assistance in doing service to communities, and attracting them to Rotary,” added Nishita.

Based on the surveys administered by Pilipinas Rotaract MDIO this Rotary year, 150 Rotaractors in the Philippines have already crossed over to Rotary. As to the foresight of the capacity to pay the annual dues for Rotaractors by 2022, 57% are affirmative while 43% are still doubtful most especially those who are from the university-based Rotaract Clubs. Suggestions generated from the survey include forging a cost-sharing arrangement with their sponsoring Rotary Clubs and conducting income generating activities.

Pilipinas Rotaract MDIO, along with the member districts, will continue to find opportunities for Rotarians and Rotaractors in the country to achieve the objectives of Elevate Rotaract. “We should see Elevate Rotaract not as a move to widen the gap between Rotary and Rotaract but to set a platform for Rotarians and Rotaractors to work together and co-create a better future for Rotary. With the help of Rotarians in the Philippines, I hope that Elevate Rotaract will be successful in our country and be a model for other regions to follow,” said Louie De Real, Pilipinas Rotaract MDIO Chair.

“Elevate Rotaract positions Rotary into a future that is innovative, inclusive and adapting to the world around us. It recognizes that Rotaractors work side by side with Rotarians to create lasting change across communities and in ourselves,” added Ligaya Nicole “Aya” Corpus, Charter President of the Rotary Club of West Central, the club that hosted the summit. “We should remember that Rotary strives on the diversity of our organization. Our members come in different ages, professions, backgrounds, and neighborhoods. Rotary’s diversity gives it more reason to offer an invitation to our youth and let them become the future leaders of our society,” shared RI District 3780 Governor Johny Yu. “It is said that the future of Rotary is in our [Rotarians] hands but really it is on the hands of those who will come after us - the next generation,” added RI District 3780 Deputy District Trainer Past District Governor Rufino “Penny” Policarpio III in his closing statement for the summit.

his pandemic has already made us lose hope for what may come next. And currently, a lot of people are struggling in surviving everyday lives.

Suddenly, some lives of the people worsen for the past months as the country experienced the raged of three typhoons: Quinta, Rolly, and Ulysses. These typhoons brought misery to the lives of the Filipino people.

Typhoon Ulysses has become the most destructive tropical cyclone so far for this year, 2020. It brought heavy rains and strong winds throughout the country that wherein it caused massive flooding wrecked establishments and houses that killed a lot of dozens of people. A catastrophic disaster left Filipinos in agony who lost their homes and their loved ones.

Rotarians, Rotaractors of Rotary International District 3780 collaborated to give aid to the fellow Filipinos. The Rotary International District 3780 initiated a Relief Operations, Ahon Pilipino: Bagong Umaga, Bagong Pag-Asa. This Relief Operations spearheaded by Governor Johnny Gaw Yu, Spouse/PP Veronica Ho District Rotaract Representative Hasem Baladjay, and Transforming Presidents and the team of the District aids victims of the typhoon. Despite this pandemic, District 3780 carries on with its purpose, to serve the community and country.

A long week Relief Operation was held in November.

There are 1,135 individuals and 28 evacuees who were given relief packs last November 1, in action with Utopia agency disaster's response team, under Col. Rodrigo Bonifacio. The first day of the long week of Relief Operations was last November 19, it is for the five barangays in Isabela, Cagayan. There are 2,000 relief packs, 600 bags of 2-kilogram rice, and 5 bags of clothes were given to the victims of Typhoon Ulysses. On its second day at Isabela, Cagayan, 2,000 relief packs, 600 bags of 2-kilogram rice, and 5 bags of clothes were also given, it was last November 20. IPP Joel Paragas, representative of Tp Judith Arlyn Vergara of Rotary club of Camp Aguinaldo with Tp Roan Densai of Rotary Club Quezon City South East and Tp Alex Cruz Of Rotary Club of Midtown Cubao of Rotary District 3780 had its Relief Operation last Nov. 21 at Nangka, Marikina.

And, through the Rotary Club of Pag-Asa, barangay Linao, Cagayan received relief packs. The last day of the long week operations was at Echague, Isabela, last November 24. There were 1,500 relief packs, 1,000 bags of 2-kilogram rice, and bags of clothes given out.

Indeed, the Rotaract International District 3780 has a heart that is for the community. Regardless of the pandemic, the District interminably aid and show compassion for the fellow Filipinos. Together, we continue to transform lives.

evastated houses, homeless residents, lack of resources—the recent typhoons have brought a new whirlwind of challenges amidst the pandemic. But in the face of these troubles, bayanihan arose to rebuild spirits and communities.

Rotaractors played a large role in this endeavor through relief operations, donation drives, among other initiatives—proving their dedication to ignite further the spirit of service in these trying times.

The following words of inspiration from Rotaract leaders proved that volunteerism doesn’t stop at one point, but is a continuous and selfless series of acts of giving and connecting.

If we feel in our own clubs that everyone is there for each other, then we can build our strength and inspiration to radiate that same feeling outward. We will be ignited to help people, even those we do not know, in times of crises.”

EMPOWERING, ENCOURAGING, and ENRICHING ROTARACTORS “We, Filipino Rotaractors have faced different types of natural disasters and calamities. Even the current pandemic challenged our faith and passion for Rotaract service.

We can ignite the spirit of service and the role of Rotaractors in community building by EMPOWERING our co-Rotaractors by giving them a chance to spearhead innovative projects that could create an impactful change in our community.

Start ENCOURAGING the youth to be involved in online discussions and webinars. Encourage more clubs to do collaborative projects that could lead to catering to a larger group of beneficiaries. Encourage your club to be involved in local government projects as they can be our best ally in improving our communities.

Lastly, start ENRICHING their talents, skills, and knowledge through online workshops, training, and seminars. Create a domino effect of leaders creating more leaders which they can also apply in their community. Always remember; "The more we share the things, talents, skills, and gifts we possess, the more we gain."

The QC RACSTAR | 11 "We Rotaractors can ignite the spirit of service by participating in online projects and online meetings.

Many Rotaractors can still do their roles in this virtual society. We can do online meetings via Zoom or Google Meet to avoid physical interaction to help stop the spread of the virus. Aside from that, community service projects can be done via an online donation drive. You can donate through bank transfers in just one click. If you must gather and do your projects, always observe proper health protocols and social distancing.

I know it's quite hard to do projects and meetings these days due to the pandemic, but always remember that we are creative and unique in our little ways.

I believe that we learned a lot in our current situation. We just need to look for the brighter side of what happened this year. We should be grateful for what we have and continue being kind and generous despite all things. As a Rotaractor, that's what we need to do because this year is life-changing."

"Service is not just one big community event that we organize. Providing them with basic necessities like clothes, food and toiletries might be enough to bring a smile to their faces. But once they go back to their ruined homes, even with that pack of donations on their hands, their smiles will fade because there is still trauma, loss, and grief. As Rotaractors, we don't just want to give temporary smiles but a permanent one. Being at their side and making them feel that life is still worth living would be a big help to build them up again. It doesn't mean that we have to be with them everyday. A weekly or monthly visit will do or we could check up on them through chat. It's making them feel loved and valued will make them recover fast. Serving is truly a tiring yet a fulfilling duty. We should also invite our family and friends to help share this fulfilling experience."

ecently several areas in the Philippines had been devastated due continuous typhoon hitting our land.

Many of houses had been severely damage and thousands of people are suffering due to this phenomenon.

November 14, exactly end of my shift my best friend asked me if we are selling a dozens of underwear since we have a small online business. When I ask for the reason why she’s buying a lot, she open up that she would like to donate it to the victims of the typhoons and this where Project Undies PH started.

Why undergarments?

We noticed that most of the donation drive in our country focused on providing ready to eat foods and used clothes but we seldom see people including undergarments in their donations. We saw the need and importance of clean and new undergarments to people who lost most, if not all, of their personal belongings. We decided to focus on raising funds to provide and include them on donations we give out.

In just a day after we post the donation drive in social media we are able to accumulate P15,000.00 pesos and it is still counting and to secure this project I manage to ask help on my outside work organizations such as Rotaract Club of Holy Spirit sponsored by Rotary Club of Holy Spirit, we even partnered up with some established non-profit organization with same interest of ours.

We dubbed this program as ‘Project Undies PH’ a group of individuals that aims to provide clean undergarments to people in need, specially victims of calamities whose houses and belongings have been severely damaged or wiped out.

As the year ends we are able to share a total of 1000 pieces of undergarment to the community in Rodriguez, Rizal, Bankal, Marikina City and areas in Bicol Region. We had a relief operation to said areas where we also give some goods and clothes donated by our partner organizations.

Rotaract Clubs: The Magic of Giving Written by: Rotaractor Kimie Ann Balesteros Rotaract Club of Holy Spirit

TsuperHero: Raffle for a Cause | Rotaract Club of Holy Spirit Aside from farmers, jeepney drivers were also one of our greatest superheroes. That said, this Christmas season, the Rotaract Club of Holy Spirit came up with a “Raffle for a Cause” fund-raising activity to help Jeepney drivers who were most affected by the community quarantine and extend help to some underprivileged individuals residing within Barangay Holy Spirit. For every 50 pesos, participants have one entry slot to the raffle game and were able to help families of the beneficiaries. With the help of the club members and other participants, the club accumulated a total of PHP 12,350.00 with a donation for the project. On December 23, volunteers of the club distributed Noche Buena packages to thirty (30) jeepney drivers of PASODA-PISTON, PHILCOA Quezon City, and some financially marginalized individuals along the road.

Rotaract Club of Holy Spirit also generated Noche Buena worth of prizes to eight (8) randomly drawn participants who were announced via the club’s Facebook Live Raffle Draw last December 22, 2020.

A Smile Shines on Christmas | Rotaract Club of New Manila In collaboration with the ROTARACT D3780, co-host Rotaract Club of Cubao, and their sponsoring club — Rotary Club of New Manila, the Rotaract Club of New Manila has successfully conducted their 2020 multi-effort for Rotaract District 3780 Christmas Outreach Project, “A Smile Shines on Christmas”. This event was a long-term project celebrated annually and physically by the club.

Despite of the circumstance, it did not hinder the club to still be of service and make a smile shines on Christmas.

The event was recently held on December 27, 2020 at the Barangay Valencia Community, Quezon City. On the other hand, the donation drive turnover was conducted at their Day Care Center Department as they target the students as their beneficiaries.

PAYAT SA TAAS | Rotaract Club of Mega Edsa The Rotaract Club of Mega Edsa has successfully conducted the “Payat sa Taas Project” --- a fund-raising project that aims to provide assistance to the urban poor community of Barangay Payatas, Quezon City. A total of PHP 5,129.95 monetary and in-kind donations was collected from the club sponsors.

Co-presented by the Rotaract Club of Culiat, the Rotaract Club of Mega Edsa was able to turn over 25 Noche Buena package, relief packs, sanitation items, brochures and items related to mental health on December 23, 2020.

The club would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all the sponsors, partners, and organizations who supported their project specifically the Rotaract Club of Culiat, Rotaract Club of RCDM Scholars, Rotaract Club of Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Aksyon ng Kabataan Organization, KKK (Kabataan sa Kartilya ng Katipunan), PUP- DZMC- Young Communicators’ Guild, SKC Philippines, You Fund The One PH, and SJCQC NSTP CWTS 2.

KinaBOOKasan's First Edition | Rotaract Club of Cubao As a youth organization, Rotaract Club of Cubao is proud to announce that the club has done a big step in being of help honing the nation’s young minds. Last November 28, 2020, in partnership with sponsoring club, Rotary Club of Cubao, Civil Defense Action Group (CDAG) and Ephesians Publishing, Inc., the Club led the launch of KinaBOOKasan’s first series of book donations on selected schools across the District and outside Metro Manila. The first recipient was RC Cubao’s adopted school, Aguinaldo Elementary School. The said institution received 4,000 books. Dulongbayan Elementary School also received 4,000 books, Quirino 2A's Library received 240 books and Barangay Quirino 3A received 120 books.

Together with RC Cubao and CDAG’s President. TP Chi Armenta and Mr. Noel Lubuguin, TP Genelyn Giray, PE Alwyn Cabral and Roratactor Mark Jhun Abiertas gladfully handed the deed of donation to the school’s principal, Mrs. Chelma B. Cabatic of Aguinaldo Elem. School, OIC of Dulongbayan Elem. School, Mrs. Rebecca Camota and Kagawad Mafe Fontilla of Barangay Quirino. We are extending our sincerest gratitude to everyone who helped make this project a reality.
