We All Scream For Ice Cream 6 Ice Cream Shops To Try In Kosciusko County by Haiden Hibbert photo by Mike Deak
Life may feel upside down lately, but there’s one thing you can always count on to pick you up (okay, maybe a few things)—but your favorite ice cream is likely at the forefront. From classic cones to dreamy sundaes and candy-filled mixers, there’s nothing a sweet treat can’t fix. Fortunately, all your favorite ice cream shops are back open for business with a host of comforting, refreshing flavors to get you through these hot summer days.
Sheila’s Sweet Treats
511 S. Main St., North Webster 574.834.7550 Sheila’s Sweet Treats & Diner is a staple in North Webster, serving everything from hot coffee to breakfast to lunch—and of course, ice cream. The local sweet treats shop has a few important updates to keep in mind before heading out to fulfill your next craving. The fanfavorite Sherman’s ice cream is back this season (a classic from South Haven, Michigan!). And for the time being, customers can get their favorite flavors, Thursday through Sunday, from 2 p.m. until close at the outdoor pickup window.
Flavor Freeze of Warsaw 2950 Frontage Rd., Warsaw 574.306.2411
One of three Indiana locations, Warsaw’s Flavor Freeze is a hot spot for some of the most indulgent ice cream creations, including their new Triple Threat Sundae. If you’re hungry, you’ll love digging into this vanilla ice cream treat, topped with chocolate, Oreos, M&Ms, Reese’s, whipped cream —and a full cookie and brownie. Sound like a mouth full? You bet. And a delicious one, at that. Flavor Freeze is also showing their love to our four-legged friends this summer. The ice cream shop is hosting Pup Cup Mondays, where you will receive a free Pup Cup with a purchase. And yes—puppies must be present!
Joe’s Ice Cream Supreme Shop
1201 S. Huntington St., Syracuse 574.457.8763 Joe’s is a fan-favorite for Syracuse residents, serving soft-serve, sundaes, milkshakes, and more. With classic flavors to choose from like vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry to more unique options like Grasshopper, Mackinac Island Fudge, and Yellow Cake Batter, there’s something for everyone at Joe’s. While there’s no indoor seating, Joe’s has walk-up and drivethrough windows, as well as plenty of outdoor seating. The ice cream shop is just half a mile away from Lake Wawasee, attracting visitors and residents all summer long.
Kelainey’s Ice Cream 904 Park Ave., Winona Lake 574.267.2860
Kelainey’s is back to business as usual with even more outdoor seating to enjoy this summer. In addition to serving some of the best ice cream in the area, Kelainey’s has a full kitchen and espresso bar. The restaurant at the Village of Winona is best-known for its hand-dipped ice cream and sundaes, as well as its milkshakes, sandwiches, salads, and espresso drinks.
Igloo Ice Cream
108 W. Main St., Silver Lake 260.352.0999 Silver Lake is home to the iconic Igloo Ice Cream Shop, featuring 31 hand-dipped flavors, as well as milkshakes and sundaes. Its walk-up window makes it a perfect place for grab-and-go dessert, but if you want to sit and stay awhile, there’s plenty of space outside under their shaded pavilion, too.
Ritter’s Frozen Custard 3845 Lake City Hwy., Warsaw 574.268.0099
With seven Ritter’s Frozen Custard locations within Indiana, we are pleased one is located in our very own Warsaw. You can find this franchise across the country, as well, but it’s a lake life staple for many reasons. Serving up everything from frozen custard to Italian ice to burgers, hot dogs, and fries, it’s the ideal place to grab a quick meal and dessert. Ritter’s is also open for delivery when you order through the Doordash and Uber Eats apps.
