Luke Donald returns to the top spot Luke Donald returned to the Nº1 spot with a stunning sudden-death victory at the Transitions Championship. And yet another victory on the US PGA Tour for a European golfer, which just a couple of years ago were few and far between. Donald played a magnificent seven-iron out of the right rough to six feet for a birdie on the first extra hole after making it into a four-man play-off with Korean SangMoon Bae and American duo Robert Garrigus and Jim Furyk.

Garrigus, who forced his way into extra time with a final round of 64, took full advantage of his power on the 18th hole at the Copperhead by hitting a 313yard drive into the heart of the fairway, leaving only a wedge into the hole.Yet Garrigus missed from eight feet while Donald holed-out for his fifth victory on the PGA Tour – so McIlroy's tenure at No 1 lasted just two weeks.

"Well, I enjoyed it while it lasted," McIlroy tweeted. "Congrats Luke, an impressive performance!"

Donald made it into the play-off with a final round 66, while Bae posted a 68 and overnight leader Furyk shot 70.

Meanwhile, it started out with a day to remember but ended up as a tournament to forget for Padraig Harrington. After the elation of last Thursday's sensational course record 61, Harrington was in the doldrums on the final day, for the third round in succession, the Dubliner failed to break par as he continued his slide down the leader board into 20th place after grinding out a levelpar 71 as the protagonists fired birdies. Ten-under after shooting the best round of his life in the opening round, the 40-

year-old completed his tournament on seven-under, six shy of the play-off. Within 24 hours of Thursday's mesmeric performance on the greens at the Innisbrook Resort, the confidence drained out of Harrington's putter.

Andalucia Open Frenchman Julien Quesne equalled the course record with a superb 64 to win the Andalucia Open by two strokes and secure his maiden European Tour title. The 31-year-old, who began the final day three shots off the lead, birdied the tough 18th in a run of four birdies in five holes to finish 17 under par. Italian teenager Matteo Manassero's second

par-three 17th and then his approach to the 18th, doing well to escape with pars at both. That left overnight leader Eduardo de la Riva needing to hole his second shot from the fairway at the 18th to tie, but he wasn’t able to do so, and missed out on second place also after taking three putts.
