THE GREEN SPOT Eco Tip of the Month You may or may not have noticed Bulk Bin has disappeared from the Orewa waterfront shops on Hibiscus Coast Highway. But never fear, they have just moved a couple of doors down and can be accessed through Bakehouse Lane. This is a great place to do some packagefree shopping, because you can bring your own containers which they pre-weigh and can then subtract from the filled container weight to calculate the true price of your purchase. The lovely couple who run this shop also offer a loyalty card so that, after several shops, you gain a credit. There is a wide range of non-perishable goods available, so go have a look to see how you could eliminate some plastic packaging from your groceries. We’ve also had the exciting development in Millwater, with the introduction of ‘Love Our Planet Refillery’. Kerron Windybank, a lovely Millwater local, has created a system where people can come and buy affordable plant-based cleaning products from her home, such as dish wash liquids and body washes in repurposed bottles, and you can leave an empty bottle for the next person. This is to save plastic from going to recycling, as even recycled plastic has a significant carbon footprint. Sometimes the overflow is shipped overseas and burnt, destroying our planet with dangerous emissions.

TRADIE OF THE MONTH Maddren Homes The nuts, bolts of a Maddren build. Anzor literally supply the stainless-steel nuts, bolts and connection hardware for Maddren builds, and are now also Maddren Homes TOM (Tradie of the Month). Antony Burke has been with Anzor for 3 years and in that time has built up a strong relationship with Maddrens. His service is second to none and he will drop everything to help us if an urgent call goes out. His extensive product knowledge and willingness to be there when we need him, makes him this month’s deserving recipient of our Tradie of the Month and voucher from proud sponsor Western ITM. Keep up the great work Antony!

Check out her ‘Love Our Planet Refillery’ Facebook page to find out more details on how it works and to see her whole range, which includes dishwasher tablets that come in a washable bag, and even organic blackcurrant powder. Kerron is also open to hearing any suggestions on what to stock, so if there is something you regularly buy in plastic packaging, get in touch and have a think about how we can leave a liveable planet for our children.
