Thinking of a Cruise

If you haven’t taken the plunge yet and tried a cruise, then this article is for you! There are many reasons why people choose a cruise as their next holiday: affordable, relaxing, only unpack once, and everything is at your fingertips.
There is nothing like waking up in the morning at a new port and catching your first glimpse of your beautiful surroundings. From beautiful Barcelona, romantic Rome, charming Caribbean or adventure in Alaska, you are spoilt for choice… but it is not just destinations that are hard to choose from; it is also the wide range of cruise lines we have on offer these days.
From small ship cruising with maximum passengers of between 600-800 people – cruise lines like Silversea, Azamara, Oceania & Ponant all offer 5-star-plus service and amenities.
If you want luxury on a grander scale, then you could look at Cunard and the Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria – and transport yourself back in time with these grand old ladies of cruising.
Our last cruise was on the Royal Princess, from Barcelona to Athens and many fabulous stops in between. It was 14 nights and we travelled in July/August, which was quite hot in Europe and busy, but we got to see some amazing places like Kotor In Montenegro.
The longest cruise I have embarked on was 30 nights from Barcelona to Singapore on the Ovation of the Seas by Royal Caribbean. These ships are known as “resort style” cruising as they have bumper cars, ice skating rinks, water slides, and fun for kids of all ages!
On all the cruise lines you have a range of staterooms available; from inside cabins, ocean-view cabins, balcony cabins, suites and even penthouses. I like the balcony cabins as I enjoy sitting outside reading my book and watching the world go by from my own little area.
If you just feel like escaping, there are relaxing spaces like card rooms, numerous bars and lounges, outside quiet spaces and an Internet café – and someone is always around to get that cocktail.
You will never go hungry on a cruise ship! There are the breakfast buffet, lunch buffet and fine dining restaurants – and, of course, there is a gym onboard so that you can work all that food off again.
So, whether you are new to cruising or an experienced cruiser, there is something for everyone out there… the choice is yours. You just have to take that first step and get onboard for some fun and relaxation!
