Last November, we published an article about Pinc, an environmentally-conscious local foil printing business, so we made plans to meet Creative Director Margriet O’Reilly and learn more.

During year 12, Margriet knew that graphic design was the career she wanted to follow and she was delighted to have an amazing art teacher at Mahurangi College. A year in The Netherlands followed before Margriet returned to gain a degree in graphic design at Unitec and start her fledgling graphic design business. “At first, this was a part-time enterprise on the side of my fulltime job in Royal Oak. Then it was time to focus on growing my own graphic design business over the next 5 years, before we were approached to take over a foil printing business that was for sale,” Margriet said. With foil printing machinery and the production side needing expert input, Margriet’s aircraft technician husband Conan came on board – initially part-time for the first six months before the well-founded business needed him to join full-time.

With an expanding customer base, Margriet took on additional team members over the next 18 months and she now leads a team of four gifted graphic designers at Pinc Ltd in Silverdale. “We are a locally-based employer of local talent, and one that services our customers across New Zealand and Australia from our expanding premises,” Margriet added. “Pinc now has two units at 20 Silverdale Street – which perfectly manage the design and production in separate spaces.”

This well-run specialist foil-printing studio is successful because the happy team is involved in all steps of the production; from imaginative design to finished product. “We have a great reputation for collaborating with and complementing other printing businesses, providing value-add services for one another,” Margriet told us. “Our extensive paper stock and customisable high-end designs ensure that we can produce your ideas onto wedding invitations, business cards, corporate event collateral, packaging – and more.”

We watched as Conan operated the magnesium plate foilprinting machine that was busily producing top-quality wedding invitations, and appreciated how this smooth operation can be used to translate unique graphic design ideas onto a variety of materials. We were especially impressed by the extremely small environmental footprint that Pinc makes. For more on this, see last November’s article about how Pinc re-processes cardboard into compostable packaging, and enjoy reading about their graphic designs on Facebook, Instagram and printitpinc.co.nz
