We all know of the work the SPCA does - but what about closer to home? As vets, we have a duty of care to all animals and we work alongside many wonderful charities. We regularly see injured birds and wildlife, and regularly fundraise and do food collections for Saving Hope Foundation, HURRAH and the Humane Society of New Zealand, but our biggest partnership is with Gutter Kitties.
Charity work is something that is very important to us, a way of giving back to the community that supports us. If you would like to find out more about us or any of our charities we support, please see our website for their links: Gutter Kitties is a rescue organisation for cats in our local community and we are their vet on the Hibiscus Coast. We started working with Danielle and her dedicated team of volunteers in 2011 and since then we have de-sexed thousands of cats and kittens, repaired many broken bones and made sure every cat is given the best chance at survival, regardless of whether it is owned or not. During the ‘kitten season’ they are inundated with pregnant cats and litters of kittens from all over Auckland and will never turn any away. This kitten season has seen us de-sex, vaccinate and microchip over 170 cats and kittens! The season is not yet finished. Most of these cats and kittens are able to be rehomed into loving, forever homes. If not, they stay with Danielle at her paw pad or become long-term fosters. Danielle will never give up on them and we have worked closely together in getting some of these cats through severe illness and injury.
