ROMEO/ROWENA Summer Outing
The Millwater ROMEOs (Retired Old Men Eating Out) and ROWENAs (Retired Old Women Enjoying Nice Afternoons) successfully battled the traffic and met up on Auckland Anniversary weekend for lunch and laughter at the magnificent Ascension Wine Estate and Function Centre on Matakana Road. We were delighted to have back our globe-trotting visiting ROMEO and ROWENA, Gus and Sue Gerrans. Lunch consisted of superb platters of cold meats, cheeses, pickles, olives, chutneys, figs and sun-dried tomatoes – all supplemented by delicious bread, French fries and salad. At just $29 a head, there was more wonderful food than we could eat. Much animated, gently lubricated conversation
covered topics such as Christmas and New Year, holiday plans for 2019 and family stories. The setting at Ascension is one of the most beautiful in New Zealand and the impeccable service was discreetly and efficiently managed by Conference and Events Organiser Marina Doncevic. If you are planning a special party or gathering, we can’t think of anywhere better. Sated and smiling, the ROMEOs and ROWENAs found the road home to be miraculously traffic-free and easy. We will plan for our, by-now-traditional, midwinter combined outing around June or July, to boost our spirits during the shorter days.
