The Knutsford Directory caught up with owner Jane Smyth to find out more about her new venture.

Jane said “Once my son started school I knew I needed something for me; something that would give me the flexibility I need to be there for my son so being my own boss seemed the perfect answer. I have a passion for fashion and had already been selling clothing and accessories for a while, usually at events. I knew I needed something more permanent as the range of products I was stocking was growing and travelling around with so much stock was becoming unmanageable.

I really like Knutsford. It has such a great feeling and is so interesting. All the people I have met so far, both within the market and customers, have been so welcoming and friendly. There is a real feeling of community here which I am enjoying very much.

Style Loft Boutique stocks a range of beautiful, stylish and affordable ladies clothing, accessories and jewellery. I hope that I provide a friendly and approachable service, welcoming ladies of all ages and helping them to find the perfect item. I have new stock arriving every week so there is sure to be something for everyone.

The Toy Appeal is a voluntary, not for profit organisation, based in Knutsford and is run by Chris & Dee Drake, whose aim is to ensure no child is forgotten on Christmas morning.

The Toy Appeal is now in its 5th year and to date has provided Christmas Toy Sacks to more than 4200 children across Manchester and Cheshire, who without the sack of toys we provide, would have nothing to open on Christmas morning.

We rely on support from people who donate new toys, who donate money via of JustGiving page and who come and volunteer with us to make up toy sacks. We engage schools who encourage their pupils to donate new toys to our appeal, we love the idea of children giving to less fortunate children.

Each toy sack is made up specifically for each child, based on their age and gender, we provide toy sacks to children from babies to 17 years old.

We take requests for Christmas toy sacks from social workers, schools, debt services team and drop in centres where families use food banks.

Once again the award-winning volunteers of the East Cheshire Hospice Christmas Tree Collection will be out in January to come and collect your tree to responsibly recycle it into a soil improver for Cheshire. And all we ask is that you consider making a donation to help the vital work that our Hospice does. For 30 years they have been caring for people suffering from life-limiting conditions with support for the families and friends also. This year they have extended this care to people in a similar position who wish to remain in their own homes.

Following on from last year’s Collection which raised more than £114,000, we have introduced an easy way of making a donation online, although we quite happy for you to donate in the way that you did last year! See our new website for full details.

The date of the Collection weekend is 13/14 January 2018 and it will run in the postcode areas of CW12, SK9, SK10, SK11, SK12 & WA16.

Festive Treat Mini Frangipane Mince Pies These seasonal mini pies by Samantha Châtelet will delight your guests and family this Christmas

Ingredients Jar of mincemeat.

For the pastry 280g plain flour 140g unsalted butter, cut into small chunks 4 tbsp golden caster sugar 1 egg, beaten For the topping 140g of soft salted butter 140g golden caster sugar 85g self raising flour 100g ground almonds 2 eggs, beaten ½ tsp almond extract handful flaked almonds Icing sugar to dust Make 48 mini pies or 24 normal size pies

Method 1. Put the flour in a large mixing bowl with ¼ tsp salt. Add the butter and rub it in with your fingertips until the mix looks like fine crumbs.

2. Add the sugar and mix in, then slowly pour in the beaten egg, mix in the egg thoroughly. Bring to a dough with your hands, then knead briefly until smooth. Wrap in cling film and chill in the fridge for 30 minutes.

3. Heat the oven to 190C fan. Roll out the pastry on a lightly floured work surface until approximately 3mm thick, cut into circles with a 5cm (mini) round plain cutter. Gently press each pastry circle into the circle of the muffin tin.

4. For the topping mix together the butter and sugar with a wooden spoon, then add the flour, ground almonds, eggs and almond extract and beat until smooth.

5. Spoon around one teaspoon (mini size) of mincemeat into each pastry case then spoon over the frangipane topping gently spreading out to the edge. Scatter over the flaked almonds.

6. Bake for approximately 15/20 minutes or until the pies are golden and the pastry feels firm at the sides. Leave to cool for 10 minutes and then dust with icing sugar before transferring to a serving dish.

Should last up to 3 days in an airtight container - though I don’t think they will last that long!!!
