I attended the Mayor’s charity quiz night at the White Bear in February which was a great evening. I don’t think I have ever seen the pub so packed apart from at May Day. My team made a good effort and although we picked up a couple of spot prizes for the best score in a round we were not the overall winners. I hope that this becomes a regular event in the future as it also raised over £400 for the Mayor’s charities this year.

I have been out and about in town talking to lots of businesses this month. I got to hear all about the new developments at Jack Rabbit’s restaurant on King Street (p.28), I learned quite a bit about swim spas from Outdoor Heaven on Mobberley Road (p.21), printing presses from Iprint Cheshire in Red Cow Yard (p.26), milk deliveries from Sheldon’s Dairy (p.10) and telecommunications solutions from Voice Concepts in Princess Street, Knutsford (p.6).

There’s lots to look forward to in April and May. The Bunny Hop makes a welcome return for anyone with young children this Easter weekend, The Lions Street Fair is back at the end of May with a Magna Carta theme, preparations for this years Promenades continue to gather momentum; this year’s event promises to be simply spectacular and you can win yourself free tickets to Simply Cheshire, an event showcasing all the best local artisan suppliers on 22nd and 23rd May at Arley Hall (p.15).

1st Knutsford Scouts New HQ is underway Donations sought to help fund project st

1 Knutsford Scouts head quarters located on the Moor in Knutsford is held in high affection by all the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts that it has served over many years but the building is now very old and in need of replacement.

New architect plans have been drafted with the generous support of Rob McGinnes of Hive Architects, Knutsford and are shown bottom right.

Solum Environmental of Knutsford were commissioned to conduct a full ecological study of the special SSSi conservation site and they have kindly donated much time and support on an ongoing basis.

The plans, models and artist’s visuals were unveiled recently at a Spring launch on the Moor.

Martin Relton District Commissioner for Knutsford & Surrounding areas said “The Scouts prides itself on and is fully committed to providing high quality activities for the benefit of young people in our community. The new Knutsford HQ is needed to meet our ongoing and growing needs” .

Martin is providing much needed support on the project to take it from the paper concept to an actual usable new HQ for the whole community to enjoy.

It must be spring, the frogs are here! The birds are building their nests, but it doesn’t feel like spring yet, it’s too cold. The sun might be shining in a beautiful blue sky today, but the cold isn’t encouraging me out into the garden.

I’m sure that the businesses in Knutsford will make their wonderful effort again, hanging baskets and big bold floral displays all welcome. We are so lucky to live and work in Knutsford and our pride in our town is clear for all visitors to see.

Even very young children can learn numbers if they are presented to them as a fun game, and it really is never too early to start. For example how many ears does the rabbit have – how many chicks are there in the picture?
