INFINITI of Kansas City
INFINITI QX50
Dear fairy tale fans,
Welcome to Starlight and this production of Shrek the Musical! You are about to embark on a whimsical journey where ogres sing, princesses defy expectations, and laughter echoes through the forest—tonight’s forest, Swope Park.
Whether you’re revisiting Shrek’s journey from solitude to heroism or discovering it for the first time, this is a story that transcends generations. As someone who remembers when the Shrek films first released—23 years ago!—I find its themes of friendship and embracing who you are no matter how different you feel to be timeless. It’s a reminder that happiness comes from within and our differences make us special—and what better place to celebrate our differences than one of the most unique venues in the country?
If you haven’t heard, we’ve embarked on a $40 million fundraising campaign to enhance the Starlight tradition and extend it to new audiences of all ages for years to come. The first major campaign in more than 20 years, this project aims to attract and develop new audiences, enhance arts access and youth education opportunities, generate positive economic impact in the region, and foster support for Kansas City’s arts and culture sector as one of the largest civic cultural assets in the city.
There is only one Starlight, and with your help, it can be the home for accessible live arts experiences for generations. If you’d like to learn more or donate, visit kcstarlight.com/uniquelykc.
Thank you for choosing to join us tonight. Your support makes productions like Shrek the Musical possible.
Now, get ready to journey to a land far, far away—enjoy the show!
Warm regards,
Lindsey Rood-Clifford President + C.E.O.

Starlight values the uniqueness of our employees and community and the ways in which those differences contribute to a richer, more creative and productive work culture and guest experience.
Starlight promotes fairness within policies, procedures, resources, programs, and opportunities that create conditions that empower all to reach their full potential.
Starlight provides fair and equitable access to services, resources, and opportunities that are essential to achieve and maintain social, cultural, and economic well-being.
Starlight and Variety KC have partnered on numerous initiatives over the years.
Starlight underwent a $3.5 million dollar improvement project in 2020, leveling walkways and making our historic venue more welcoming to the ADA community. That same year, we also installed communication and sign language boards throughout the venue, and Variety KC began to provide sensory bags that are available for checkout at our performances, too.
In February of this year, we were able to build on our relationship with Variety KC by hosting their first Family Sweetheart dance in Starlight’s Applause Club. All Variety KC families, volunteers, and supporters were invited to attend an afternoon of dancing, friendship, and smiles. It was a magical afternoon and one I won’t soon forget.
Starlight also hosted the book launch for Variety KC ‘s third book teaching about disabilities and inclusion, “Variety Tales: Aubrey’s Dream.” This special celebration included Tony Award-winning actress, Ali Stroker, who talked about accessibility and inclusion to Variety Kids.
This is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds. Starlight strives to provide an inclusive environment for all Kansas Citians. Being an outdoor venue and with a variety of programming for all ages and walks of life, we want to be the first families think of when they want to enjoy accessible, live entertainment. Through our partnership with Variety KC, we know that dream is a possibility.

DON & JEAN WAGNER
The workforce of the future is ever evolving – as are the required skillsets. To keep up with the change in trends, employers today are placing greater strategic value on employing creative workers.
That’s why initiatives like the Bob Rohlf Internship program are so important. Paid arts internships are rare, and Starlight interns gain hands-on, real-world experience while building the highly sought-after skills of today’s employers.
“I learned a great deal about the industry and am walking away with a lot of skills and materials I can provide to future employers. [My internship] allowed me to further develop a well-rounded set of skills and knowledge.”
-2023 Bob Rohlf Intern
When you donate to Starlight’s Annual Gala, you develop future leaders through programs like this. With every step forward, we’re Breaking Ground.

This list reflects donors who made a $2,500+ gift to any Starlight campaign between August 1, 2023 – May 30, 2024. We apologize for any errors or omissions. To review the list of all Starlight donors, visit kcstarlight.com/starlight-donors and kcstarlight.com/uniquelykc.
All events are held rain or shine. In the event of severe weather, Starlight may delay a performance for an hour or more before deciding to cancel or continue. If a weather-related delay is needed, we will communicate updates via the public access system, event staff, and at kcstarlight.com/alerts.
On the rare occasion when Starlight is unable to present the majority of a show due to weather or other circumstances, guests may exchange their tickets at no charge for another performance of the same show. Season ticket holders always have this privilege, regardless of weather. The face value of the ticket will be applied to the new performance. To make an exchange, call Starlight Ticket Services at (816) 363-7827.
To ensure the safety and security of our guests, Starlight reserves the right to inspect persons, parcels, or clothing capable of concealing or carrying prohibited items in the venue.
Use of professional photography equipment or recording devices (video, audio, or other medium) is prohibited to use during a performance without prior written consent. By attending a Starlight performance, guests give their consent to be photographed or recorded by talent, venue, or their contractors.
Smoking is prohibited in all areas of the venue except the North Lawn and east of the Encore Deck. While medical and recreational marijuana is legal, Starlight Theatre is private property and marijuana is prohibited.
Starlight is committed to making performances accessible to all guests. Accessible parking is available in the Yellow Lot (near Gate 6). State-issued disabled license plate or placard will allow guests entry to accessible parking as space allows.
Complimentary curb-to-curb shuttle service is provided to guests with mobility challenges. Starlight operates multi-passenger shuttles that have designated stops in both Yellow and Red paved parking lots. Shuttles provide needed transport to and from Gate 8.
Starlight personnel are available to provide wheelchair assistance to a seat location prior to the show and back to the gate’s drop off point after the show. Please contact a member of our GuestAssist staff if you need assistance or text us at (816) 278-7827 for on-site help.
Wheelchair-accessible restrooms are located throughout the venue. A companion restroom is available near the Encore Deck closest to Gate 6.
Starlight offers free assistive listening devices at every Broadway performance. Sunday night Broadway performances are interpreted for hearing-impaired guests.
Saturday night Broadway performances are described for visually impaired guests by Audio-Reader Network. Devices for the audio description service are free and available at the Guest Information Kiosk.
In partnership with Variety KC, Starlight offers sensory kits for guests in need of noise-canceling headsets, weighted blankets, and fidget toys. Sensory kits may be checked out at the Guest Information Kiosk.
If you need assistance at any time while at Starlight Theatre, please:
Contact a member of our team: Guest Assist staff (in royal blue shirts), Ushers and Volunteer Ambassadors (in navy blue shirts), or Security personnel (in black shirts).
