go.umkc.edu/conservatory presents the 2025-26 season:
2025 is a big year for Herb Alpert . Alpert turned 90 years old on March 31, his classic album Whipped Cream & Other Delights is 60 years old, Alpert and his wife Lani are still celebrating their marriage of 50 years and due to an out-pouring from long-time fans, Alpert, for the first time in over 35 years, is touring through 2025 with an all new “Tijuana Brass.”
This show will be an evening with Alpert and his brand new Tijuana Brass. Alpert, along with his six great musicians, will be playing all of your favorite TJB hit songs just as you remember hearing them while growing up. The show runs 90 minutes and is informal as Alpert loves to answer questions from the audience about his career, A&M Records and the many iconic artists like Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66, The Carpenters and Burt Bacharach that he has worked with over the past 63 years. The show features a giant video screen that displays hundreds of classic photos, videos, art and various memorabilia from Alpert’s music career. It is a really exciting show and a truly once in a lifetime concert event! A legendary trumpet player, Alpert’s extraordinary musicianship has
earned him five #1 hits, nine GRAMMY awards, fifteen gold albums, fourteen platinum albums and has sold over 72 million records worldwide. Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass propelled his sound into the pop-music limelight, at one point outselling The Beatles two to one. In 1966, they achieved the remarkable feat of simultaneously having four albums in the Billboard Top 10 and five in the Top 20.
In 1962 Alpert co-founded, with Jerry Moss, A & M Records, which introduced artists such as Carole King, Cat Stevens, The Carpenters, Sting, Janet Jackson, Peter Frampton, Quincy Jones, Joe Crocker, Sergio Mendes, Billy Preston, The Police, Sheryl Crow and so many other great artists. Alpert is also a wonderful abstract painter and sculptor.
Through the Herb Alpert Foundation, Herb and Lani have dedicated their lives to philanthropy, funding programs that help bring creativity to young students and keep creativity alive for artists young and old, including jazz education and programs that teach compassion and well-being.

Ever since first coming to the Kauffman Center on opening day when Julia Irene Dennie – Kauffman welcomed each of us to this world-class venue, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. Each time I come in, my goal is to help make each patron have the same positive experience. I hope that my love and enthusiasm for the great programming here carries over to our patrons.

EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURES
The Kauffman Center is equipped with advanced life-safety early alert systems. Each performance hall is designed with emergency exits in case of an evacuation. In the event of severe weather, shelter in place inside the hall, not in a lobby area, and await further instructions.
In the event of an emergency, the performance will be interrupted. Horns and strobes will sound. Emergency instructions will be delivered from the stage.
Please remain seated as staff use an appropriate amount of investigational time to verify the source of the alarm.* Should an evacuation be necessary, lighted red (Muriel Kauffman Theatre) and green (Helzberg Hall) exit signs will lead patrons to one of eight emergency exit paths.
Patrons who are not able to safely and comfortably navigate stairs should remain in the venue near one of the marked “Emergency Evacuation Assistance” areas. First responders will evacuate those requiring assistance immediately upon their arrival.
Elevators, primary entrances and the Brandmeyer Great Hall staircase are NOT used in the case of an emergency evacuation.
For more information on emergency evacuation procedures, visit kauffmancenter.org/policies.
*Kauffman Center’s emergency egress plan, which includes an appropriate amount of investigational time to verify the source of an alarm, was developed with the assistance of the Kansas City, MO Fire Marshall’s Office.

Offering seven distinct event spaces with mesmerizing skyline views and creative cuisine, the Kauffman Center is an enchanting setting for an unforgettable experience.
2025 will mark the 16th year of the highly successful, hit-filled summer package, The Happy Together Tour. The touring sensation that has crisscrossed the nation delighting audiences for over a decade returns this summer with a show full of chart-topping hits from the ‘60s and ‘70s. The Tour is once again joined by The Turtles, who also act as musical hosts for the evening. Along with The Turtles will be Jay and The Americans, Little Anthony, Gary Puckett & The Union Gap, The Vogues and The Cowsills.
The Turtles are best known for their harmony-heavy California pop sound. With such hits as “Elenore,” “She’d Rather Be with Me,” “It Ain’t Me Babe,” “You Showed Me,” and the title of the tour, “Happy Together,” the band ruled the airwaves in the late ‘60s. Ron Dante joins the line-up to delight with his own mega-hits, “Sugar Sugar” and “Tracy.”
We are proud to present Jay and The Americans! Few groups have ever reached the musical heights with hits from 1962 – 1971. This group charted an amazing Five Billboard “Top 10” hits and Twelve “Top 20” hit records. Their breakout hit was “She Cried.” Their next chart hit was “Only In America,“ which they followed with hit songs ”Come A Little Bit Closer,” “Cara Mia” and “This Magic Moment” which hit the “Billboard Top 10”.
We are equally proud to present Little Anthony, featuring all his timeless classics, including: “Tears on My Pillow,”
“Shimmy, Shimmy Ko-Ko Bop,” “I’m on the Outside (Looking In),” “Goin’ Out of My Head,” “Take Me Back,” “Hurt So Bad” and more.
Also joining the tour for 2025 are: Gary Puckett and the Union Gap was one of the most successful musical groups of the sixties. Gary’s unmistakable signature voice garnered six consecutive gold records and top ten Billboard hits with the following titles, “Young Girl,” “Woman Woman,” “Lady Willpower,” “Over You,” “This Girl is a Woman Now,” “Keep the Customer Satisfied,” “Don’t Give in to Him,” and “Home.”
The Vogues are also known for their harmony-driven soaring pop sound. They had numerous Top 10 hits with singles such as “Five O’clock World,” “You’re the One,” “My Special Angel” and “Turn Around Look At Me” among others.
Rounding out the bill are The Cowsills, the harmonious singing family (two brothers and a sister) that inspired the smash ‘60s hit television show, The Partridge Family. They are sure to delight with their best-known songs, “Hair,” “Indian Lake,” “The Rain the Park & Other Things (I Love the Flower Girl)” and more.
The tour has played more than 50 plus shows a year and 2025 will be no exception.

Dr. Reed Timmer is an extreme meteorologist and storm chaser who specializes in intercepting the most powerful storms on the planet to collect valuable scientific data. Graduating with a PhD in meteorology from the University of Oklahoma, Timmer is not only a hardcore storm chaser, but also a scientist driven to unravel the mysteries behind these destructive storms and how they are changing over time. With a life devoted completely to storm chasing and extreme field research, Dr. Timmer has intercepted over 1,000 tornadoes and over 50 hurricanes over the last few decades and is one of the few people in history to chase both an EF5 tornado and Category 5 hurricane. He considers the up-close chasing of tornadoes an artform that is perfected over decades of experience. The famous, tank-like storm chasing vehicles, called the Dominators, were invented by Timmer in 2009 for the purpose of recording data inside these most dangerous storms.
Still in full operation today, the Dominators are outfitted with stateof-the-art meteorological sensors, and protected by an aerodynamic, armored outer shell that can anchor to the ground with hydraulic spikes. Reed has pioneered delivery mechanisms for deployment of sensors into tornadoes and hurricanes, such as ground-based probes, drones, balloons and even model rockets. Dr. Timmer has driven directly inside 10 tornadoes in the Dominator 3 since 2020 to become the storm chaser who has been inside more tornadoes than any human in History. Reed Timmer’s most memorable storm chases include the intercept of a strong tornado in southern Nebraska with Dominator 1 on June 17, 2009, with on-board sensors and mobile radar measuring a 140 mph wind gust from inside the vortex; and last year, when a trackable sensor was launched by model rocket into a milewide EF4 tornado in eastern Kansas using the roof-mounted rocket launcher of Dominator 3. The sensor, as attached to a parachute, was lofted up to 39,000 feet by the EF4 tornado at speeds of up to 190 mph, while recording unprecedented high-resolution (10 Hz) meteorological data throughout the 30-mile journey inside the vortex. Notable hurricane intercepts over the last 20 years include Hurricane Katrina in Slidell, LA, Rita in Orange, TX; and category 5 Hurricane Michael in October 2019.
In addition to field science, Dr. Timmer also provides life-saving reports and content while storm chasing through both traditional and social media platforms. Presently, he is storm chasing for the National Geographic Channel and the RadarOmega application. NEVER stop chasing is not just a motto for Reed Timmer, but a way of life.

KAUFFMAN CENTER LEGACY SOCIETY
Legacy Society members have made planned gifts to the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, helping the organization plan for the future.
Barbara and Doug Cusick became Kauffman Center supporters long before ground was broken for the building.
“We were inspired by the many ways the Kauffman family has shown its support for Kansas City,” said Doug, “and we wanted to do what we could for the new performing arts venue.” Barbara and Doug opened their home and their unique collection of antique automatic musical instruments for fund-raising events. They also made a generous capital gift, purchased a seat plaque in honor of his mother and contributed to the Jane Chu Arts Endowment.
Now Doug and Barbara have looked ahead by making the Kauffman Center the future recipient of a life insurance policy their family no longer needs. “It’s as easy as changing the beneficiary’s name on a whole life insurance policy,” Doug explained. “We see this as a legacy from our entire family, that makes the performing arts and a vibrant downtown available to our kids, grandkids and beyond.”
