By BOB ANTHONY If you are looking for a holiday where even your horse can come too, consider Cherrabah Homestead Resort just outside of Warwick. Set on more than 2000 hectares, Cherrabah offers a wide range of on site accommodation, camping and true bush experiences. There are a range of different trials on offer, taking in the landscape, bush and wildlife. They can cater for families who want to bring their own horses for a change of environment with powered camp sites and yards or just saddle up one of the resort’s horse and hit the trail with experienced guide Anita Grayson. It doesn't matter what level of rider you are, Anita can match you up with a horse which is worthy of your standard (or at the very least) will 'look after you' on the trail. I'm not the best equestrian but she put me right at ease, showing me around the stable complex, introducing me to my mount and giving me a few simple tips before we headed out into the bush. There a number of different rides you can take that vary in duration and terrain. It's a great way to take the natural bushland, may see a kangaroo or wallaby, get up close with the odd reptile, surprise a bird or two and see some spectacular geological formations such as Balancing Rock, if you are up to it.

There’s places where you can enjoy billy tea and damper such as the old slab hut and there are plenty of reminders of the devastating rains that hit Queensland last year with washout and tracks now being gullies. It all adds to the appeal of the ride and an appreciation of the native environment. The rides cater for children eight years and older who are at least 1.3m tall. They even have pony rides for youngsters not old enough to go on the trail rides. For those wanting to learn to ride, Cherrabah can arrange for lessons. Cherrabah is well-suited to catering for families looking for a holiday alternative and you can stay in a range of different accommodation or even camp there and enjoy the facilities. With a pool, lake, tennis courts and of course horses, you can be as active as you like from swimming, canoeing, fishing, bush walking, quad biking, tractor train rides and wildlife tours, Cherrabah prides itself in being able to provide a taste of the country to families and people looking for an alternative break to city living. The resort is located about two and half hours from Brisbane and around 30kms from Warwick.
