The Eagles’ Downfall
By Jonathan Padro
This season the Philadelphia Eagles had a decent season. During the first 11 weeks of the season, they were leading the NFC with a 10-1 record. By the end of the season they were 11-6 and losing three games in a row. During the Wild card round of the playoffs, the Eagles lost to the Buccaneers 9-39 in a big upset.
On December 13, the Eagles lost to the Cardinals, the second worst team in the AFC. Head coach Nick Sirianni almost got fired after the Wild Card game against the buccaneers, but thankfully he did not.
In my opinion, the Eagles downfall was mostly due to the offensive and defensive coordinators. Some fans think it's just on the players and how they play, but in my opinion the only way a team could get a win is because of their head coach. Another football fan, Noah, believes their downfall was because of “the mindset of the players not the coach!”
People think because Jason Kelce is retiring the Eagles will be worse next year, but in my opinion I think because of their possible draft picks they will be better next year and maybe go to the playoffs, and maybe even to the superbowl!
Should Kids Get Paid to do Chores?
Written By Santiago Pineda
Researched by: Maximiliano Rodriguez
I believe that kids should get paid for doing chores as it is a task assigned by their guardians. When kids perform household chores, they put in a lot of effort for their guardians. Thus, they deserve a reward for their hard work, and that reward should be in the form of money. Doing chores not only helps kids learn the importance of responsibility but also teaches them how to work at a” job.”
Here at Franklin, many students do chores and do not get paid. Some of the chores include taking out the trash, cleaning their room, washing the dishes, making their bed, and even doing their laundry. All the students that were interviewed, believe that they should get paid for doing these chores. Some students would like to get paid a daily fee of anywhere from $3 to $10 depending on how many chores they do. One student, Liliana, thinks that parents should pay kids a different amount of money for each type of chore. She said, “I think for making your bed, you should get paid about $3, for washing the dishes, $2 dollars, and for doing your own laundry more like $5.”
One student, Santiago, believes that a reason parents should pay kids for doing chores is to teach them financial skills and responsibility. He said, “It can also help them learn to save and manage their money as they grow older.”
An article written by PreferredMedicalGroup’sChild Psychologist,Dr.MichelleDeRamus.states that “Positive reinforcement always goes a long way for developing good habits. It’s important to provide some kind of reinforcement for children doing chores, whether it’s money, a chance to do something fun on the weekend, or a high five or “Nice work on the dishes!” Providing rewards for completing chores can motivate kids to continue doing chores without being reminded by their parents.
In conclusion, kids are asked to do many chores when they get home from school, and they are not getting paid. It would be nice to be rewarded for helping your guardians by doing chores.
SCHOOL LUNCH: the Good, the Bad, the Baked Fried Dough…
By Elayna Seabrook
Some school food is good and some is bad. Some of my classmates and I have said that schools usually serve the same foods very often, and the same goes for the toppings. For example: the Pizza. Some people don't like cheese or pepperoni pizza. I feel like we should have more topping options for the people want different ones. Another thing about school food is the texture. The texture of some foods are weird for some people and if they don't like the texture they have to choose something different for their lunch that they may not like. There are a few good lunches that are most popular among the students here at Franklin. Personally, I LOVE baked fried dough with cheese and sauce. I have also heard that people like the Mozzarella stuffed breadsticks I think that schools should have a suggestion box for students to put suggestions for lunch every once in awhile just to try something different.

An Interview With. . . Mr. Conrad
By: Santiago Pineda
Mr. Conrad has been the principal at Franklin for the last five years, before that he was an Assistant Principal at at Chapel Street Elementary School. Editor-in-chief and Interview reporter, Santiago Pineda, sat down with our principal to ask him some questions about his life, and his career in education.
Who or what inspired you to become a principal?
“I actually started out as a teacher and I worked as a teacher in third and fifth grade for thirteen years. I would say my experiences were not always great in school and as I got older I started to think about that and realize that there were a lot of issues within the educational system that weren't good for kids. So when I went to college that started the process of me thinking about going into education. Then I also thought about some of the great teachers that I had and thought about the differences between those people and the others. And so I saw an opportunity to do some good work with kids who were like me, who weren't great students and didn't do school well. So it was kind of a lot of different people that impacted me. Good and bad.”
What's your favorite color and what does that say about you?
“My favorite color has always been green. I think I've always kind of been a person who likes earth tones. You know, I've always had a love of science and like a respect of nature and I think green is kind of a peaceful color. Plus I'm Irish and there's something about green and Irish people.”
Since you’ve been at Franklin, what is one thing you are most proud of?
“I think we've created a lot of really great relationships with families and that's something that's super important to me. Whether it's our kids in relationships or our families like parents in relationships, I think school is really important but it all comes down to the relationships that we have with folks and being able to work together.”
An Interview With. . . Mr. Conrad
By: Santiago Pineda
What did you want to do before becoming an educator?
“You know what? I spent a lot of time in school taking classes to be a physical therapist. And I enjoyed that because I played sports pretty much since I was very little. And, you know, obviously there was like a relationship to sports and helping people who were injured get better. So I spent three and a half years in college doing that before I decided to go into education.”
How and where do you find inspiration?
“Good Grief! That's a tough question. You know education is funny because I think your inspiration is all around you, right? And that's probably one of the best parts of this job is you know you could have an awful day and then at the end of the day one student comes up to you and says, hey I had a great day, I did this, and it makes it all worthwhile, right? Where you have an adult who comes up all excited and says, hey you know we did A, B and C with our kids today and it's like really cool stuff and every day you know someone will come up to me and say something like that and that's inspiring. Like again no matter how bad your day is when you hear something like that, it's an awesome motivator.”
Did you play any sports growing up or participate in any extra-curricular activities?
“I did. Let's see, when I was little I started skiing when I was four. I played soccer, I played baseball, golf, and hockey when I was four. And actually hockey I sort of stuck with until high school and through college.”
If you were able to hang out with one celebrity for a day, which one would you hang out with, and why?
“Oh my goodness. Good question. Connor McGregor. He's sort of a celebrity, right? He’s that MMA fighter. He's an odd duck. He would be fun to hang out with.”
An Interview With. . . Mr. Conrad
What is your strongest character trait?
By: Santiago Pineda
“I think being Honest is super important, and I think I mean, good, bad, ugly, you know, being honest with folks is really important because in this field of work I think we have to look at things openly and honestly and not make excuses for things. I think being honest with people allows us to do good work and moves our kids forward in a positive way.”
What is your favorite book?
Player Piano by Kurt Vonnegut, it's really a strange book, it was written in the 60’s and it's about the future and how technology sort of takes over things. And a lot about what he wrote about way back then is strangely accurate. He’s an interesting writer, someday you should check him out.
What would your last meal be?
Probably Pizza, specifically New York pizza. And in Philadelphia, they make a special kind of birch beer, and it's really hard to find but its a red birch beer and it's a little sweeter than birch beer. ws us to do good work and moves our kids forward in a positive way.”
