Thriving Growth and Impressive Size for Franchise Growth

he pet industry in the United States has witnessed remarkable growth over the years, reflecting the deep bond between humans and their animal companions. Spending on pets has increase by 115% since 2011 and shows no sign of stopping. The pandemic hyper fueled the growth of pet ownership and Americans' love for their pets has fueled a surge in demand for various pet-related products and services, contributing to the industry's impressive size and consistent growth. This issue aims to explore the current state of the pet industry in the US, including key statistics and growth rates for franchise entrepreneurs interested in this space.

From dog walking, grooming, boarding, retail sales to the pet memorial business, there is a franchise for every aspect of pet life and beyond.

While this is not a new investment thesis, Jim Cramer famously spotlighted this category back in 2016 “ The reasoning behind the sector's durability is apparent enough”, Cramer told his

audience, “any dog or cat owner knows just how much Americans love their pets and are willing to spend money to pamper them. Often they're viewed as family members, or even better than family members because they don't talk back and they never ask you for money, although dogs can certainly guilt trip and cats are expert at withholding affection," Cramer said.

THE EXPANDING MARKET: The US pet industry has experienced robust expansion, driven by factors such as increasing pet ownership, humanization of pets, and the emergence of innovative products and services.

According to the American Pet Products Association (APPA), the total pet industry expenditure in the US reached a record high of $103.6 billion in 2020, reflecting a 6.7% increase compared to the previous year.

PET OWNERSHIP STATISTICS: Pet ownership in the US has steadily risen, with a significant portion of households embracing the joys of having a furry companion. According to the APPA's National Pet Owners Survey 2019-2020, around 67% of US households (approximately 84.9 million homes) owned at least one pet. This reflects a steady increase from previous surveys, highlighting the enduring popularity of pet ownership.

SEGMENT BREAKDOWN: The pet industry encompasses a wide range of sectors, including pet food, veterinary care, grooming, boarding, pet accessories, and more.

Here's a breakdown of some key segments within the industry: a) Pet Food and Treats: The pet food segment represents the largest share of the industry. In 2020, Americans spent

approximately $42 billion on pet food and treats, according to the APPA. This includes premium and specialty diets that cater to specific health needs and preferences of pets. b) Veterinary Care: Proper healthcare for pets is a priority for owners, resulting in increased spending on veterinary services. In 2020, Americans spent an estimated $31.4 billion on veterinary care, including routine checkups, surgeries, medications, and specialized treatments. c) Pet Services: The demand for pet services such as grooming, training, boarding, and daycare has surged in recent years. In 2020, Americans spent approximately $9.7 billion on pet services, reflecting the growing trend of seeking professional care for pets' well-being. d) Pet Supplies and Accessories: From toys and beds to collars and leashes, the market for pet supplies and accessories is thriving. In 2020, Americans spent around $8.1 billion on these items, highlighting the desire to provide comfort, style, and convenience for their beloved pets. e) Pet Memorial and Funerals: while this is a $650mm category, it is rapidly expanding with little competition and for those who have the right orientation can be a very rewarding category. To put this into perspective, the human memorial business is over $20bn a year in the US. GROWTH RATES: The pet industry has consistently demonstrated strong growth rates, fueled by increased pet ownership and evolving consumer preferences.

Between 2015 and 2020, the pet industry's compound annual growth rate (CAGR) stood at approximately 5.8%. This growth trajectory showcases the resilience and potential for further expansion in the coming years.

FUTURE PROJECTIONS: Looking ahead, the pet industry is poised to continue its upward trajectory. Factors such as the rising trend of pet adoption, an increased focus on pet health and wellness, and the introduction of innovative pet products and services are expected to drive sustained growth.

Market projections by various industry analysts estimate that the US pet industry expenditure could surpass $125 billion by 2025.

mericans love their pets, going back centuries to Native Americans who kept dogs as pets and the colonists who kept a wide variety of pets. Today, the inclusion of “fur babies” in households has only grown. In fact, according to Forbes, there are about 5 million more pets in the U.S. as of mid-2022. That is an increase since 2019. The pandemic

saw a dramatic increase in pet adoptions, resulting in an economic category with soaring growth potential.

The experts at Morgan Stanley predict the retail segment will have one of the most significant rates of return between now and the end of the decade. They believe the compound annual growth rate for the industry will be about 8% by 2030. Some of this growth

will be powered by spending on new and more sophisticated drugs and treatments to keep our beloved dogs, cats and more well for as long as possible, but rest assured that the figure will also include no small amount of pampering.

Per household, Morgan Stanley forecasts spending to increase to more than $1,300 per pet by 2025, climbing to almost $1,900 per pet by 2030. So if you are an entrepreneur with a love of animals, you wouldn’t be wrong to think there’s no better time to establish your own petrelated business.

WHY A PET-RELATED BUSINESS? Obviously, the demand is high and continuing to grow for businesses that cater to our furry friends. But that is just the tip of the iceberg regarding why a pet-focused franchise is a smart move for your future.

People today have much different attitudes about pet ownership than they did 50 years ago. Most people today view their dogs and cats as members of their families. And many people are even opting for pet ownership over having children. A recent survey by Rover found that about 25% of

Generation Z and millennial pet parents either delayed having a child or decided not to have children altogether and instead opted for a dog because of the lower total cost involved.

This makes it a more consistent and reliable industry. People need to buy food for their animals and want to provide toys and other services to keep Fido or Fluffy happy and healthy. It also isn’t a business prone to seasonal fluctuations, and most pet products and services don’t require sales pitches.

s a young entrepreneur, I have embarked on an exciting journey that has not only shaped my business acumen but has also taught me valuable life lessons. One of the most profound experiences has been witnessing the remarkable bond between kids and their beloved pets.

It is no wonder that the pet industry is so large. It touches so many people and children especially become a pet person early in life or they don’t. This follows them

throughout life and that in turn fuels the growth of this industry. My family has always had dogs, hedgehogs, fish and all of them were considered family members.

In this article, I will explore the transformative power of this relationship, both for children and adults.

RESILIENCE The pet industry is one of the most resilient economic sectors, consistently demonstrating impressive performance even during times of recession.

During the 2008 financial crisis, the pet industry experienced a 5.1% growth in sales; a stark contrast to the overall market decline during that time. This trend continued in 2020 with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, where the pet industry saw an exponential growth in sales compared to other sectors. The U.S. economy as a whole only grew by 4.3%, while the pet industry saw an impressive 16.2% growth in sales.

The industry is largely insulated from the three A’s (A.I., Amazon, and Automation).

Dog parents want their pets taken care of by fellow animal lovers, and they can smell a fake a mile away. If you aren’t passionate about pets, you really should look elsewhere”.

Keith acknowledges that this wasn’t always easy in the beginning. He had to turn down potential candidates that didn’t have the passion that he was looking for. His commitment to his own advice paid off, however, and in 2022 Bubbly Paws grew from no franchisees to 11 franchisees accounting for 17 locations, of which one is open, one is opening soon, and the rest are in the development process. “Our first franchisee, in Charlotte North Carolina, has been opened just over a week. They already have over 50 grooming appointments booked and have had 25 pet parents join their Scrub Club,

our proprietary membership model. We are celebrating our second grand opening on April 1st in Keller, Texas, and that franchisee already has 55 Scrub Club members. These franchisees passion for pets and their community shows in how they interact with their customers, and that, in turn, is driving them towards explosive growth.”

Just ask 55-yearold Michael Kidd, who recently retired after a 30-year career with the federal government (INS then Homeland Security). In December he finished college with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and also fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming a small-business owner.

In November he and his wife, Michelle, opened a franchised location of Pet Butler serving serve customers in several areas in and around Raleigh, North Carolina. The national franchised company operates in more than 35 markets and provides dog poop-scooping services and pet-waste removal to homes and multi-family communities for thousands of clients across North America.

Having worked three decades for the federal government, Michael spent the past 16 years as a manager responsible for a team of 10 Homeland Security officers. “I also served four years in the U.S. Navy between 1986 and 1990, which taught me responsibility at an early

age,” shared Kidd. “I served on board the USS Frank Cable, a submarine tender, docked in Charleston SC. I was a Petty Officer 3rd class (E4) and my job was titled Engineman 3rd class. I worked in the Boats & Cranes division of the ship and my responsibilities were to maintain the engines on our ship’s small boats. The captain’s boat and transport boats. We also maintained the ship’s emergency diesel generator.

Along with wife Michelle, Kidd admits it’s the family’s love for animals that inspired him to go into the pet industry. It’s going to be a family affair for the Kidd’s, who are all passionate about pets.

The couple’s three children – Justin (24), Mikayla (21), and Kelsey (15) – will all be part of the family business. Both Michelle and Mikayla have worked in veterinarian offices and are excited to be part of the new family business. “This is the best of both worlds for me and my family,” said Kidd.

The timing really could not be any better for them to join Pet Butler. According to a recent study by Morgan Stanley, the $100 billion pet industry is poised to nearly triple to $275 billion

by 2030 thanks to favorable demographics and surging increases in new pet owners and spending. What’s more, 65 percent of 18- to 34-year-olds say they plan to acquire or add a pet in the next five years, helping drive what’s expected to be a 14 percent increase in pet ownership by 2030.

And while you might think the economic impact of the pet poop industry is just a drop in the bucket (sorry), that’s not the case. According to the latest figures from market research publisher Packaged Facts, retail sales of pet cleanup products was expected to reach $4 billion in the U.S. And it’s no surprise that pet owners are more than willing to spend – and spend a lot – on their furry friends.

“I am excited about Pet Butler’s expansion into other services such as pet sitting, dog walking, and pet shuttling,” Kidd said. “Pet ownership, especially dogs, is high right now and there are no signs of it slowing down. With everyone having busy lives, there will always be a need for the services we provide.”

And Kidd had some words of advice for anyone else who might be thinking of shaking

up their own status quo.

“Do not ever give up on your dream,” he said. “I am 55 and finally getting to live out my dream. The only thing that can stop you is you.”

Service Dogs: A Lifeline for First Responders and Veterans Battling PTSD

n 2023, the Pet industry in the United States is projected to reach a staggering $143.6 billion in sales. This figure encompasses various sectors, including pet food, supplies, veterinary care, grooming, and services.

The industry's growth is a testament to the increasing significance of pets in people's lives and the rising demand for products and services that cater to their well-being.

Reflecting on my own journey, I recall being diagnosed with PTSD a few years ago. The cumulative effects of my military service and 26 years in the fire service had taken a toll on my mental and physical health. I found myself grappling with a multitude of symptoms associated with PTSD. INTRUSIVE MEMORIES: Distressing memories, flashbacks, or recurrent nightmares related to the traumatic event. These memories can be vivid and cause significant distress or emotional reactions.

AVOIDANCE A strong desire to avoid anything that reminds the individual of the traumatic

as if danger is imminent.

EMOTIONAL DISTRESS Overwhelming feelings of anxiety, fear, guilt, shame, or sadness. Mood swings, emotional numbness, and a sense of detachment from others may also be experienced. event. This may include avoiding certain places, people, activities, or conversations that trigger distressing memories or emotions.

NEGATIVE CHANGES IN THOUGHTS AND MOOD Persistent negative thoughts and beliefs about oneself or the world, distorted perceptions of trust, feelings of detachment from others, diminished interest in previously enjoyed activities, and a persistent inability to experience positive emotions.

HYPERAROUSAL A heightened state of arousal or hypervigilance, characterized by being easily startled, having difficulty sleeping or concentrating, feeling irritable or angry, and exhibiting reckless or self-destructive behavior.

Individuals with PTSD may constantly be on guard, feeling

PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS Individuals with PTSD may experience physical symptoms such as headaches, stomachaches, chest pain, rapid heartbeat, or gastrointestinal issues. These symptoms are often related to the high levels of stress and anxiety associated with the disorder.

Seeking relief, I began exploring alternative treatments and discovered the benefits of CBD. Incorporating CBD into my routine, along with the support of my Labradoodle-Bear, GoldenDoodle-Oakley, and of last year Banks the Cat. and the guidance of a skilled counselor, brought about a noticeable improvement in my attitude and mood. It is essential to note that while PTSD affects millions worldwide, not everyone who experiences trauma will

develop the disorder. However, if symptoms persist for an extended period, hindering daily functioning, it is crucial to seek professional help for evaluation and treatment.

Service dogs have emerged as an invaluable resource in aiding individuals with PTSD, particularly first responders and veterans. These highly trained canines offer far more than mere companionship.

Recognized as medical tools under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), service dogs undergo specialized training to perform specific tasks and provide emotional support. By sensing their handler's emotional distress, these dogs offer comfort and physical contact, alleviating symptoms and reducing stress levels.

The tasks performed by service dogs are diverse and tailored to meet the specific needs of their handlers. These tasks may include: ALERTING Dogs can be trained to sense changes in their handler's physiological state, such as increased heart rate or breathing, and alert them in advance. This early warning system can prevent or minimize the severity of panic attacks.

CREATING BOUNDARIES Service dogs are trained to create a physical barrier between their handler and others in crowded spaces. This creates a sense of security and reduces the likelihood of triggering episodes of hyperarousal or anxiety.

NIGHTMARE INTERRUPTION Dogs can be trained to recognize the signs of nightmares and wake their handler gently, providing a comforting presence and helping them return to the present moment.

SEARCH AND SECURE For veterans and first responders who may still be exposed to potential threats, service dogs can be trained to search and secure a location, providing a sense of safety and reducing hypervigilance.

The positive impact of service dogs on PTSD recovery cannot be overstated.

Research shows that these furry companions significantly reduce symptoms, enhance emotional well-being, and improve overall quality of life for individuals struggling with the disorder.

Service dogs not only reduce anxiety levels but also foster a sense of security and trust, allowing handlers to re-engage with the world and partake in activities they may have avoided previously.

The non-judgmental and unconditional bond between a service dog and its handler provides opportunities for emotional connection and social interaction, combating the isolation often experienced by individuals with PTSD. Furthermore, service dogs help break the cycle of hypervigilance and anxiety, providing a sense of control and safety in various environments. When I received the 3D replica of June, I was amazed at the detail and quality of the product. It was like having a mini version of June right in my hands. The 3D replica captured June's unique personality and character in a way that photographs and videos couldn't.

ormer US Marine Steve Rotay is spearheading a challenge through the Franchise Consulting Company’s Veterans Council. We Created the Bet on a Vet 100! veteran program to Donate $1,000,000 to 100 former and active veterans starting a franchise.

Each member of the Veteran’s Council is either a veteran of one of the U.S. Armed Forces or has a close personal connection to those who serve.

Each of committee members dedicate a portion of their efforts to assisting veterans in the transition to civilian life and the world of entrepreneurship.

Our council was formed to provide a service the better understand the challenges of the transition and the integrity and brotherhood/sisterhood that uniquely existed within the ranks. This service from our council is at our own personal expense.

As a reflection of those in the service, the members of the council exemplify the spirit of pulling together for the good of the mission, the good of the team. We have each benefitted from the efforts of others. Now, we want to pay the gestures forward to others

We know that veterans transition from a relatively low wage in the service to the very costly civilian life and many times with a family. The council was formed with people who truly understand and have successfully lived through that process. Our goal is to make it a little easier to get the education people need to make informed decisions.

This is the genesis of Bet on

a Vet 100! We have allocated $1,000,000 to help the first 100 veterans. Originally, the program was intended for a narrow portion of the Armed Forces. With the support and cooperation of the entire committee and the Franchise Consulting Company, we can expand the offering to all branches of service. This includes Active and Reserve unit.

Veterans have mastered the traits of discipline and leadership in their tenure in the services. Those skills are highly sought after by business owners in transition as well as many f ranchise organizations.

However, the thought of

raising funds required to become an entrepreneur is overwhelming. That feeling can make it very difficult to commit to any type of change in lifestyle. Other significant categories include veterinary care ($31.4 billion), supplies and over-the-counter medications ($22.1 billion), and pet services, such as grooming and boarding ($9.7 billion).

According to the APPA, approximately 67% of U.S. households own a pet, which equates to around 84.9 million homes. This number has been steadily increasing over the years, with more people than ever before recognizing the positive impact that pets can

Many pet owners now view their furry friends as members of the family, which means they are willing to spend more money on premium pet products and services. Some Thoughts on Veterans and Pet Franchise Ownership

I’m Steve Taylor, a veteran of the US Navy and in this article, I’m going to share my thoughts on why military veterans make excellent pet franchise owners.

First and foremost, military veterans possess a unique set of skills and qualities that are invaluable in the world of pet franchise ownership.

Through their time in the military, veterans have gained experience in leadership, discipline, and decisionmaking under pressure.

These are all critical skills that are essential to running any successful franchise, as they allow individuals to make informed and timely decisions while leading a team of employees.

In addition to these core skills, military veterans have also been trained to work well in high-stress environments – great experience to have if you choose to create a business revolving around passionate pet owners. The military is an environment where individuals must be able to think clearly and act decisively, even in the face of danger or uncertainty

(or a screaming pet owner unhappy with how “Fluffy’s” nails were painted the wrong shade of purple!). This type of training is incredibly beneficial for pet franchise owners, as they must be able to handle challenging situations, such as unexpected emergencies or staffing issues, with confidence and grace.

Veterans also bring a level of commitment and dedication to their work that is often unmatched. Military service is often characterized by long hours, intense physical training, and a strong sense of duty. These same qualities can be applied to running a pet franchise, where long hours and hard work are often required to ensure the success of the business. Additionally, veterans are often highly motivated individuals who are passionate about making a difference, and this drive can be channeled into the success of their franchise.

Another advantage that military veterans bring to the table is their ability to work well in a team. Military service often involves working closely with others, and

this type of experience is invaluable in a franchise setting, where teamwork is critical to achieving success.

Additionally, veterans are often skilled at working with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, which can be incredibly beneficial when working with customers and employees from a variety of backgrounds.

Finally, military veterans often have a deep sense of loyalty and commitment to their communities. This same sense of dedication can be applied to the local community where their pet franchise is located.

By building relationships with local customers and supporting local pet-related events and organizations, veterans can help to create a strong sense of community around their business.

Of course, running a pet franchise is not without its challenges, but military veterans are well equipped to handle these challenges headon. Through their military experience, veterans have gained the skills, qualities, and values necessary to succeed

in the world of pet franchise ownership. With their strong leadership, commitment, and dedication to serving others, veterans are an ideal fit for this type of business.

In addition to the benefits that veterans bring to the pet franchise industry, there are

also several programs and resources available to help veterans transition into the world of business ownership.

For example, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) offers a variety of programs and resources designed specifically for veterans who

are interested in starting or growing a business. These resources include training and counseling programs, access to capital, and mentorship opportunities.

In addition, many franchisors actively incentivize veterans to invest in their brands. This could include discounts on franchise fee’s, extended royalty “holidays” or other benefits. (These discounts are not completely altruistic – more sophisticated franchisors understand that military vets bring a host of very useful skills and experiences).

In conclusion, military veterans possess a unique set of skills and qualities that make them ideal candidates for pet franchise ownership. Through their military experience, veterans have gained valuable skills in leadership, discipline, decision-making, and working well in a team. Additionally, veterans bring a strong sense of commitment, dedication, and loyalty to their work, which can help to build strong relationships with customers and employees alike.

Right now, the game is delivered via one short live weekly zoom call, PDFs (gameboard and scorecards), and our private social network where players share photos and support each other. There are 100 points possible. Kids who earn 86 or more points get a spot in our Hero Hall of Fame.

We're excited to develop the game into an app, and presently we're seeking funding. We are also looking for ideas and donations of enticing awards that we can offer to really get kids excited to earn those 86

points to get into the Hero Hall of Fame.

Presently, the age range for our players is approximately 5 to 13 years old, and the kids in the KFF comic are in about 5th grade. We look forward to further developing our comic and curriculum to appeal to middle schoolers, high schoolers, and even college freshmen, to continue

their nutrition knowledge and empowerment.

4. How long is the curriculum and what is the cost to be a member?

The curriculum is 28 days. We run group games four times a year and privately. We offer it through private schools and afterschool programs.

A few teachers have taken it into the classroom. We aren’t operating in public schools at this time, but we would love to get in there.

The cost is $69 to join one 28-day game, or $150 for 3 games in a year. And we do

offer scholarships. If any kid wants to play and they can't afford it, we will scholarship them in. We want every kid who wants to play Kids Food Fight to play!

5. So what other aspects of healthy nutrition do we teach?

Along with the macronutrients and how sugar affects the body, we also teach portion sizes and why it's important to eat them together. We teach them a little bit about food advertising and how to read food labels. We encourage movement and really want

the kids to get outside and get away from the computer and the devices.

Kids are aware of their own bodies. Returning to school after the pandemic, they are aware if they are bigger than they used to be. Facing their peers was very uncomfortable for many. That’s another reason why this work is so important.

We look forward to following our comic story kids as they go through junior high school and… puberty! How do different foods affect you when you're going through puberty and how does that make you feel? So really connecting the dots for the kids about how whatever they eat translates into how they're feeling about themselves, and how they will physically feel later. Our comic kids will go through high school and even into college; there's still that freshman 15 (that’s the average weight gain in pounds for new college students).

6. Do we ever see our curriculum being implemented in cities and towns across the country?

Absolutely! It already has been.

We have families from every time zone except for Hawaii and Alaska who have played our game. We look forward to implementing it worldwide via our game as an app. The program is so simple and easily translated into multiple languages. We already have plans for Spanish, Mandarin, and German and interest from six countries around the world.

7. Have we thought of developing Kids Food Fight into a franchise?

Surely. We are excited to train people to be facilitators so they can run their own games and use our curriculum. You do not have to be a nutritionist to be a Kids Food Fight facilitator.

We are developing an easy facilitator training program.

After that, you will have access to our curriculum and game platforms and be able to run your own games whenever and wherever you like. Consider your baseball teams, your soccer teams, your Girl and Boy Scout troops, your dance and gymnastics studios. If you know a group of kids and you care about their health and wellness, then we invite you to become a Kids Food Fight facilitator and potentially a franchise owner in the future.

Here are some tips for caring for all kinds of “’pet-friendly’ flooring: • Standing water is hardwood floors worst enemy. Make sure to lay a mat under your pets’ water bowl and clean up

any messes as quickly as possible.

• When it comes to marking, usually your pet (dogs mostly) like to mark the same spot repeatedly. Clean the area up with water and vinegar to cut the smell so your dog won’t go back due to scent. Do not use ammonia because dog urine contains ammonia and that will just attract them more.

• A good tip is to have diapers handy to soak up the urine. If you don’t have any diapers on hand a sponge or paper towel will do. Never wipe, just pat the area until most of the liquid is absorbed.

• Avoid putting heat on the stain; heat will cause it to bind with the fibers.

• Cleaning urine from carpeting is almost the same process. Do it quickly and don’t let it sit too long. Use 50% vinegar and 50% water and spray the area. Soak up with a paper towel or rag to absorb the stain and dry the area. This method can also be used for a stain that has dried.

• If the stain does not come up completely and leaves an odor, cover the stain with baking soda and let it sit over-night, then vacuum the area the next day. This

should take out the odor completely and dissipate whatever is left of the stain.

• Claws are common enemies to soft wood. If you have a pet go with a harder wood flooring such as Brazilian Teak, Walnut, Acacia, or Hickory. The hardwood should be at least ¾ “thick to provide and protect floors from pet scratches.

• Laminate flooring is also a wonderful choice for pets.

Most laminate flooring is scratch resistant.

• Tile floor is the most pet friendly. Now, there is tile available that looks like hardwood so you get the best of both worlds! Make sure to seal the grout of the tile floor because marking will seep in and cause discoloration.

PROTECTING BRAND IDENTITY WHILE SHARING SERVICES Shared services is a bit of a mythical animal when it comes to multi-brand franchises because we are maintaining brand identity as opposed to wiping it out and rebranding it as part of the conglomerate. Our goal is to choose brands that push each other to do better while remaining dedicated to the individual identity of each franchise.

For example, one of our brands – TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® – was able to benefit from our shared resources in IT and accounting, which helped streamline their backoffice operations. In return, it had one of the best support

models we had ever seen in managing relationships with franchisees. We were able to leverage those learnings across our other seven brands, increasing the support system for franchisees, and, in turn, creating a better customer experience.

I have been part of franchising during several economic fluctuations, and I can tell you unequivocally the brands that doubled down on customer experience, who appreciated their relationships with customers – what they want and what they’re going through – those are the brands that win.

s someone who used to be a solopreneur running a mobile dog training business and is now the Chief Visionary Officer of Blue Line K-9 Dog Training franchising enterprise, I understand the ups and downs of being an

I want to share with you some of the strategies that I have implemented over the years to maintain my mental wellbeing and help me stay passionate about life. Burnout is one of the biggest dangers to entrepreneurs and small business owners who run their own franchises. It’s easy to become overwhelmed by all of the responsibilities that come with managing a franchise and lose sight of why you got into the business in the first place. To avoid burnout, it’s important to stay passionate. If you don't have a plan to stay on track you may get overwhelmed and frustrated ultimately calling it quits. The following tips are ones I use daily and are part of our franchise success kit. I hope they inspire you to keep going or at the minimum provide you the opportunity to remember why you got started and realign where necessary. entrepreneur. Connect with your mentor.

You are the only one who can choose to keep going, but you don't have to go alone. This one reminder to connect with a mentor, will free up energy you once used to keep everything stuffed down and set you up for a healthy work/life balance.

. Make time for fun: Don’t forget to make time for yourself and do things that you enjoy! Take a walk in the park, hit up a museum, grab lunch with friends, or try something new whatever it is, make sure it brings you joy and allows you to relax.

In order to thrive, we should focus on understanding our motivation for work, making time for self-care, and building connections with others. It's important to push ourselves beyond our limits, enjoy the process, and pursue our passions every day. When we are passionate about our work, success will naturally follow.

re you still second guessing the effectiveness of direct mail in today's digital world? Research and statistics show that this marketing channel can provide you with a higher trust factor and more reach. We’ve gathered some statistics that will have you feeling good about applying direct mail into your marketing strategy.

According to the Data & Marketing Association (DMA), direct mail has a response rate of 5.3% compared to email's

response rate of just 0.6%.

The USPS reports that 98% of consumers check their mail daily, providing a consistent opportunity for businesses to reach their target audience.

Direct mail has a higher trust factor than digital channels, with 56% of consumers stating that they find print marketing to be the most trustworthy type of marketing, according to the DMA. According to Hubspot, by 2025 people will be sending over 325 billion emails per day, versus the average household that receives less than 400 pieces of marketing mail per year. Direct mail can break through the saturated email inbox.

The Winterberry Group forecasts that direct mail spending in 2023 will increase

from 1.6% to 3.3% of advertising dollars, while spending in many digital channels will decrease Direct mail is less likely to be considered spam than email, with 49% of consumers reporting that they receive too many irrelevant emails, according to the DMA. The average response time for direct mail is 9% faster than email, according to the ANA. A study by the USPS found that 60% of direct mail recipients were influenced to visit a promoted website, while only 23% of email recipients were influenced.

rian Claeys is coowner of a successful dog training facility called All Dogs Unleashed. Brian, along with his best friend Travis, founded this business in Texas with a great work ethic.

All Dogs Unleashed offers features of a pet resort.

In addition to training, All Dogs Unleashed offers services such as bathing, grooming, and doggie daycare, which keeps customers coming back to meet their pets’ needs even when traveling.

“It’s not your typical training center. We know our customers travel and will

come back for more if we do all of the above,” mentions Brian.

The business has grown so much that in 2021 they began offering licensing agreements to help others follow their successful practices and have managed to become a successful franchise.

Brian realized that training dogs is not only a way to teach dogs to behave correctly, but it also helps strengthen the bond between the dogs and their owners, improves the quality of life for the dogs, and provides a solution to behavioral issues that many pet owners face.

“This idea of helping people have a deeper and more harmonious relationship with their dogs inspired me to get into this industry and start my own dog training business,” Brian explains.

One of the biggest challenges Brian and Travis faced when starting the business was funding. They didn’t want to borrow money and started with only $10,000 in the midst of the 2007-2008 real estate crisis.

However, they saved diligently for the first few

years and were able to rent and open their first facility with $150,000 saved. Brian highlights the importance of savings and financial management in the success of their business and how they are now helping others meet this challenge through the licensing agreements they offer.

Brian is noted for his focus on customer service and customer satisfaction.

He and his team strive to underpromise and overdeliver, which means they underpromise what they can actually deliver and always seek to exceed their customers’ expectations.

“From a dog training standpoint, we stay away from what we call reactive training. We help teach the dog to teach itself what not to do. From a business standpoint, we are the most organized dog trainers you will find. Dressed to impress, chicken filet customer service and always under promise to

deliver. We make dog training simple for humans so that you can have a better relationship between you and your dog.”

Brian states.

All Dogs Unleashed’s team of dog handlers are highly trained and have extensive experience in handling different dog breeds and behaviors.

“We pride ourselves on providing a personalized service tailored to the specific needs of each dog and its owner,” says Brian.

In 2023, All Dogs Unleashed is working to expand to additional locations that will be co-op stores. They are building their new Shreveport location and expect it to be completed in the next eight months.

“We also have deals on properties in Oklahoma City. We will begin working on website updates as we continue to master our SEO. We have currently been spending time talking to potential new franchisees. We

are very proud of our model and with 16 natural growth locations we are excited to bring in new owners and show them how to be successful as well,” he adds.
